-Tuesday, lost in the woods

It feels like I've been walking forever until I come across Amy's yellow pickup truck parked on the side of the road.

I'm not surprised to find it empty. She must have gone into the woods. This can't be good.

I usually don't share this deep, dark secret of mine with anyone; I'm scared of the woods. It's dark and airy, which always gives me the chills.

Ok, I can do this, right?

Right?

I enter the woods. The thick foliage swallowing me whole.

...

I'm officially lost. How am I supposed to find Amy in this place? Everywhere I go there are trees and weeell more trees.

Hmmm, that rock looks vaguely familiar. Oh right, that's because I must have hiked past it now for the fifth time.

I'm lost.

Lost.

Lost.

Lost.

Lost.

That's when I begin to panic, my breaths coming out in short gasps.

And then those glowing green eyes appear and I've never been so happy before to see them.

I follow the cat until I hear the sound of rushing water. The river.

"Amy?"

I see her standing knee deep in the water, the strong currents pulling at her. Oh my god. I'm supposed to save her from committing suicide.

"Amy," I shout this time, getting her attention.

She looks at me through bloodshot eyes. "Not you again. What do you want?"

I go straight to the point. "Don't do it."

Her eyes dart back to the river, that won't stop trying to drag her away. "Why? I have nothing to live for."

Come out; come out of that river right now, back onto the dry, safe land.

She takes a few steps back, so the water is now brushing against her ankles.

"Think of your, your parents and siblings."

"I have no siblings," she says, bitterly, "I'm the only child."

"So you're going to leave your parents childless?"

"Yes, they don't care about me anyways." She walks forward.

Stop. Amy stop right now.

Nothing happens.

"STOP," I yell.

She doesn't listen.

Bleep.

Now, why was I the one chosen again? I don't know how to swim.

Gulping in as much air as I can, I enter the water. Fizz, it's freezing. If I miraculously don't drown, I might end up being frozen to death instead.

"Amy, please come back," I plead, shivering as the water brushes against my waist.

She ignores me, diving in.

Taking a deep breath, I follow suit, the river crashing down on me.

Have I mentioned that I don't swim?

But who cares right? The cat giver gave over this power, so I'll be here now saving Amy's stupid butt, by swimming for the very first time.

I somehow manage to get to her and wrap my arms around her waist, pulling her back with me.

"What are you doing?" She doesn't look too happy to see me.

"Saving you, though I don't know how to swim."

"What, you can't swim? Are you crazy?"

"I'm doing this to save you."

She shakes her head. And then to my surprise, she carries me to the shore.

We both lie on the grass, chilled to the bones.

"Why you?" she asks at last.

I respond with one answer, "Fate."
