"What do you think he's going to say to me."

T visibly rolls his eyes from the front seat - I see it in the side mirror. As much as I'm skeptical about what has been proposed, I'm ultimately excited beyond belief. If it is true, then what I have been mourning over all this time will mean nothing. Everything will right itself.

Fate is driving, T in the passenger seat beside him. I've been forced into the backseat for this ride, so I sit in the middle, attempting to stay a part of the conversation in case one of them says something important.

"I'm sure he will tell you he loves you," Fate replies warmly. Hopefully neither of them from the front notice the slight smile that graces my lips from behind my hand.

"We have to convince Death first," T says flatly.

I watch Fate shoot T a withering look for a moment. "I don't think Zayla wants to hear your pessimism right now, T."

"I don't want to hear him at all."

"We can't be like this in front of Death. She is as unpredictable as any immortal is, and T isn't allowed to seduce her this time," Fate mutters, drawing his gaze back to the road ahead. He doesn't have to worry about any twists and turns on this road. It's utterly straight and doesn't seem to have an end.

"I'm happily mated," T says tiredly, glaring pointedly at Fate. "Not even sure why you brought me along."

Fate sighs through his nose, clearly not wanting T there but knowing he has to be. "We need you. It will not be easy to convince her. She is going against another immortal, however, I'm sure there is a way to manipulate this situation."

Manipulate. The one word that belongs to Fate.

"Usually your manipulation irritates me, but in this case, I'm grateful for it," I admit. If he is manipulating a powerful immortal, he isn't manipulating me. And most of the time, I can't decide if he is or not.

"It's funny the things we do for what we want."

He's right, but I don't concentrate on that. Instead, I look out the window, looking across the landscape. I have no idea where we are, which is a given. Everything is barren, a few trees scattered here and there, but nothing much else. No one lives out here, that is for sure.

"What is this place?" I ask.

"Neutral ground," Fate replies.

"Could we not have used your magical transportation trick?" I ask. As much as I don't like that - when I'm falling of my face - it's better than sitting in a car with T and Fate, who argue back and forth in typical brother like fashion.

"It's not a trick," Fate reminds me, to which I only respond with a roll of my eyes.  "And no. No magic today."

"You immortal confuse me."

I slump back in my seat, staring tiredly out the window. I'm not going to argue with either Fate nor T, because if one of them decides to drop me off here, I wouldn't know where to go. It doesn't look as though it has rained here in months - the ground cracking in places, tufts of grass yellow and in few places.

My eyes had almost focused out, when I catch sight of a small section of gravel next to the road. Sitting there, is a black vehicle, with one woman sitting on the bonnet, and one woman pacing in front of it. My heart skips into a blistering pace.

"We are here," Fate says, pulling in front of their car. "Death knows you, so everything should be fine."

"Should be?"

He winks. I can see it in the rearview mirror.

I don't want to step out of the car initially, but when Fate and T do so with ease, I have no other choice but to follow. Death stands in front of the car, looking all the more stunning than she did the first time I met her. Outside, her gleaming mist swirling eyes seem more intense, trained on me as I step outside of the car.

On the bonnet of the car, sits Karma. I can barely tell under all her hair. She looks utterly bored by us all, looking elsewhere, as if this land is so transfixing.

"Would you look at that," T mutters, leaning his arm casually against Fate's car. "She brought miss attitude with her."

Karma barely even looks at him. "I'm not in the mood for your idiocy, T."

"I missed you too, Karma."

"Fate, Zayla, T," Death suddenly says, cutting T off. She looks over us, evaluating, regarding. It makes me nervous, knowing the angel of death is staring right at me. Especially with the misty eyes she has, which seem to be judging every movement that any of us make. "This is quite the turn out."

"Thank you for coming out. You didn't have to listen, and yet here you are," Fate comments. "And Karma, how are you?"

Karma, who still stays sitting on top of the bonnet of the car, slowly moves her gaze toward Fate. Her eyes are unnerving too - bright green and unrelenting.

"Like you care."

"She's good. A few messy things have been on her mind recently," Death explains, dismissing Karma's clear disdain for everyone standing around her. Due to her namesake, I can assume that a lot gets on her nerves. I hope she doesn't like breaking glass like Ira does.

The expression that crosses T's face is unmistakable. "I think I have an idea of what you mean."

"T," Fate scolds.

"You know I have a mate, T. I don't appreciate you speaking to me as if I'm interested in someone else," Death snaps. Despite her obvious short temper directed toward T, she still seems to have a cooler air about her.

"Isn't he dead," ...T questions, a bright smile on his face. "Ironic, isn't it?"

My heart almost stops imagining the things Death could do to us if she gets made. However, she simply sighs through her nose, and turns to Fate, completely dismissing T's jab, and my morbid curiosity about her dead mate. I would much rather a wave off then her getting mad.

"If you're trying to make some kind of deal with me, I would suggest telling your baby brother to keep quiet," Death says flatly to Fate, who doesn't seem as worried about this as I am.

"He will," Fate says surely. "Now, I hope you will keep an open mind."

Death has a haunted smile on her face, clearly speaking from experience. "Every time you say that to me, you bring up something completely out of my realm of interest, darling."

"You're so condescending," Fate murmurs. "I love it."

My eyes widen slightly. Am I the only one here that is feeling uncomfortable. If there was ever something between Fate and Death, I wouldn't be surprised. Fate seems to have made his way around the group of immortals, but when you're as old as time, that is probably normal. But that doesn't stop me from shifting on my feet, tucking my hair behind my ear that the soft wind had tugged at.

"Likewise," she says tiredly, undoubtedly unaffected by Fate's charm. "Get to your point."

"You're going to bring back someone from the dead for me," Fate says. I've never heard him so pointed, in the way he folds his arms, and speaks directly at her. I would be too scared I would be stepping over some kind of line.

"Is that right? And who might that be?"

"Jasper," Fate tells her. My fingers knot in front of her as her eyes narrow slightly. "You know who I'm talking about."

"I'm not about to do that."

"Yes you are."

"What makes you so certain you can convince me this time, Fate?" she questions.

Her eyes are still narrowed. There is no way she is about to say yes, which has my heart sinking. I should have known not to get my hopes up like that, when there are multiple people to get through to make this happen. And not to mention what Fate has planned for me as compensation for him doing this.

"Because you have no reason to say no to me."

"Make your point already."

"We all know Time is no one's friend. You're not telling me you would find great pleasure out of going against him?" Fate questions. His nonchalance is not contagious. I don't think going against an immortal will do any good but get us all killed in the meantime. Especially since that exact immortal killed my father.

"Of course," Death considers, "but how would this benefit me?"

The expression on Fate's face, and his body language suggests that is a foolish question to ask him. "Like I said, having something against him would be your benefit. I'll protect the Alpha, and you reap the rewards."

"These rewards seem to be written in very fine lines," Death mentions with a tilted head and narrow eyes.

"But they are written."

"Perhaps," she muses, before she sighs loudly. My hopes are suddenly up again. "Alright, but only because this may have little effect on Time. And you seem to hold a longer grudge then he does."

T claps his hands together. "There's the reasonable Death that I love so much."

"Very funny," she says with rolling eyes. Her focus remains on Fate, though. "I'm available next week to begin the process."

Fate nods sharply, as Death turns her back. With her gaze off any of us, I can breathe a little either, but I'm still on edge. Karma hasn't seemed to have listened to any of that, finding the horizon more interesting. T hands back near the car, keeping his mouth shut rather than testing the limits of Death's patience.

"Does this means that she's actually bringing him back?" I whisper lowly to Fate, even though I assume Death can hear regardless.

"Of course," Fate says with the slightest smile. "I told you she would."

Death suddenly turns, and motions for Fate to come closer. "Fate. Why don't you come over here for a moment."

Fate nods, stepping away from the car. He's not too far from the car, so I wonder if I can listen into their conversation and see if something interesting is passed between them. However, T comes to stand beside me.

"She's concerned," T murmurs.

I glance up at him, barely seeing him against the glare of the desert sun, which is only mitigated by the subtle breeze."Why?"

"Because bringing someone back from death is not an easy feat," T explains to me, which I already am aware of, considering I was. "It can do things to people. Bad things."

"What are you saying?" I ask, fear seeping into the forefront of my mind.

"Perhaps you should consult Fate about that."

I sigh through my nose, as T turns away on his own words, walking back to the car. I'm unsure if he is being truthful, or if he is instilling fear into my mind. Either way, it has left chills throughout my body, wondering what the consequences are to bringing something back from the dead. I feel normal...Aside from being an immortal.

"You're so tense," I suddenly hear Fate whisper to Death.

"I'm not sure why I'm doing this Fate," Death replies. I'm suddenly zoned into their conversation completely. "I'm getting nothing but anger from a powerful immortal, and a possibly corrupt Alpha."

"You know why you're doing this. Because you care. Because you want your mate back," Fate murmurs in her ear. I'm not meant to be listening to this at all.

"What are you trying to say?"

A genuine smile can be seen on Fate's face, but just barely. "I can help bring him back for you. You need me to ensure his place in this existence is sound."

"What about Destiny?" Death questions.

He shrugs. "Don't worry about her."

"You'll really help bring him back?" she asks him. She seems so hopeful, I'm suddenly wanting him to say yes, as well.

"Of course," Fate says firmly, meaning that. "If you bring Jasper back"

"Why do you want him back so badly?"

"Because it will make Zayla happy," he tells her, and for a moment, he glances at me. I look away, hoping he doesn't know I'm listening. And I hear every word. "And that's all I want right now."
