Watching to Break
A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.
Two months. That evening that she had gotten back, (f/n) had told Lee. Like her, he saw the benefit in that it gave them more time to find out information on Kaleb; however, it also meant that it'd be harder to keep things from progressing with Tristan. Eventually, they might have to let Kaleb and Anita try another plan if things got out of hand. Lee refused to let her carry on things with Tristan too far, and she didn't want to either.
Unfortunately, their search for information was bearing no fruit. They had checked both companies' main websites, checked reviews about them, checked comment chains on various discussion websites and researched both of the men's names. For either male, it was like nothing bad about them existed. There was the option to contact their old classmates, and Anita's for that matter, but that posed too much risk. (F/n) didn't know them well, and they could inform any of those three what they were doing within a heartbeat.
Even if it was unlikely, they both checked the café's website and reviews too. They hoped that they might find something in there that talked about Anita's relationship with Kaleb, but they didn't. It didn't surprise (f/n) since she checked the café's pages daily to ensure that business was going well, but she hoped that she had missed something. She hadn't.
It didn't help that during the day she had to pretend not to know what was going on. She had to act normal around Anita and fake some interest in Tristan and their 'budding' relationship. Anita already had gone through her closet for an outfit for the coffee shop date. Surprise, surprise, it resulted in her wearing her light blue denim shorts. Thankfully, Anita had let her include her red leather crop jacket. Those two pieces were accompanied by her black v-neck and black ankle boots.
Lee, though, had an idea that might help. That was for him to create his own account for social media; however, he'd still be able to see some of her information since not all of it was purely private on her account and for family members only. Yes, she trusted him more with each day, but she still was hesitant to let him see her family. She could go ahead and change that information that was public to private, but others would notice. One of her family members might wonder if something wrong. Anita would wonder if something was wrong. All in all, it wouldn't be good.
There was the option to have Lee promise not to look at her profile, but he already had admitted that he'd look over it. He wrote how if she wanted to know about his past, which ultimately would include information on his background, he needed to know about some of her past too as well as the ties she had too. It was a fair deal to him, and he argued that it'd maintain their level of trust in each other at the same level. She didn't know if she was ready for that step, but she was appreciative that he was honest.
All of this, though, drained her. It was Monday, and it was the evening. Anita had gone off to the hotel, leaving Lee and her to continue their search. Her head ached, however, and she was presently resting her forehead on her forearms. "We're getting nowhere," she muttered as she heard Lee typing on her computer, no doubt looking for something that they had missed. She heard a note slide over to her.
We can look there. (F/n) knew what he meant, and she huffed before she rested her forehead back on her forearms. Her following silence was enough for Lee to understand. Part of him wanted to force her to start searching on social media. The longer she waited, the worse the situation might become. Yes, he could understand her hesitation, but she only would be putting herself in more danger as time carried on. Slightly, his hands clenched before he forced himself to relax them.
Both of them were frustrated, and he had a feeling that the night wouldn't be too productive. He could tell that (f/n) was exhausted, especially since she wasn't examining the screen with him. As for him, he was getting impatient too, and everything was beginning to look the same. It all seemed to praise the two companies and their owners, nothing else.
Sighing roughly, he pushed his chair back. That got her attention. She peered up, and he could see the obvious confusion there. He handed her a note. We need a break. Well, that was true, but they were losing time also if they did that. (F/n) parted her lips to protest, but he handed her another note before she could speak as though anticipating her action. No. We're not going to get anywhere like this. Even you admitted that we're getting nowhere a few moments ago.
For a moment, she didn't know what to say before she stared down to her lap and sighed gently. "True. I just feel like we're not taking this seriously if we're not searching." She set the notes aside, only to find another shortly after on her lap.
We aren't searching. I am. You've been laying your head down, and I'm getting frustrated at the lack of results. Okay, that was true, but she did frown a bit at how blunt he was. Maybe, she didn't appreciate his honesty all the time, but it was what she needed. He was ... right. If anything, they were just making the next night of searching all the harder.
"... Fine." She met his eyes. "What did you have in mind?"
First, I'm going to change. That gave her pause, and she furrowed her brows before she recalled that his clothes had arrived that day. Anita and she just hadn't gotten around to changing him, which probably was a good thing since he was alive. Before Anita had left, she had teased her about switching his clothes while she was gone. At the time, she had rolled her eyes and was glad that Anita had gone shortly after. By that point, she had been too focused on searching for information that she had forgotten about the outfit. Lee clearly hadn't.
I knew that you wanted to get started on this, so I didn't say anything. But, tonight might be a good time. I'd rather not risk having Anita change me. I may have a plastic body, but I still don't want her hands on me. That she could understand. If she was in his position, she wouldn't want Tristan's hands on her. Even now, she didn't. Her eyes saw a few more sentences, though. As for you, you already have wiped me down, but you were unaware of the situation at the time. So, I take it that you'd be uncomfortable.
Slightly, her cheeks heated up. He just had to bring that incident up, didn't he? She wondered if he was smirking. A pout touched her lips, and she muttered, "Yeah, I would be." (F/n) rested her chin against her knuckles. "And if Anita's teasing me, that'd be even worse. Plus, I doubt you want her seeing you either."
No, I don't. But, it'll be nice to get out of these clothes and out of the kitchen. No longer would he have to see Anita's face for the whole day. It'd be a welcome change. Instead, he'd get to see (f/n)'s for most of it. That was something to look forward to. Though, he doubted that he'd get to see her embarrassed like presently all the time, but that was fine. He got to enjoy her expression for now, and he supposed that he was happy that only he was viewing it.
"What's after you change, though?" she questioned, trying to forget about the incident where she wiped him down. Thankfully, the heat in her cheeks was disappearing.
I make you a late night snack, and we watch a movie. You have that site on your laptop that allows that. It'd be fun. She raised a brow before she found herself chuckling a little. He didn't understand what was funny, but at least he had distracted her from the lack of evidence they had on Kaleb.
"I'm sorry, but I didn't picture that as fun for you." A smile touched her lips, and she directed it straight at him. It brought a smile to his. How charming. "Given what you've said in the past, I didn't think that something so ... well normal would be to your tastes."
Amused, he wrote her another note. I do enjoy a good movie every now and then. And, I had other normal hobbies. I didn't just kill people, (f/n). Well, that was nice to hear. Realistically, she shouldn't be so calm about him admitting that he killed people, and she had even laughed before when he had mentioned it. Perhaps since he hadn't done so recently or ever around her, though, that made the information more bearable for her to hear, not to mention that he was helping her.
No doubt that was selfish of her to think like that. She was letting a killer live in the café and not reporting that to anyone. Then again, who'd believe her when she said that a mannequin was alive and a murderer? The fact that she was alive and that he wasn't killing Anita on sight, or the others, did mean that he had restraint and was willing to change if the situation called for it, which gave her a little hope that she hadn't completely lost it after finding out about her friend's betrayal.
"Then, I suppose that I'm good with that. We can scroll through the movies." She got up and stretched. "Where are we watching?" He signaled up to her room. That would be comfier seating than the dining room chairs. "Got it. I'll head up when you're done."
I'll just change in the kitchen. The box is in there. I'll meet you up there. You get cozy. A small smile touched her lips at his consideration, and she nodded. She also was looking forward to the snack. Yes, she knew that he wouldn't be making it from scratch, but him bringing it still brought a smile to her lips. He didn't have to do that.
Grabbing the laptop and charger, she left the room after thanking him in advance for the snack. He simply nodded his head and watched her head upstairs. Not only could they relax but also he'd be wearing something he liked for once in a long time. It'd be nice.
