Stop to Keep
A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.
Across the screen was his answer. If the history was erased recently, system restore will bring it back. The small box on the page proceeded to say how to get to system restore and how to execute the action. Needless to say, she could find out what he was looking for. She'd probably search the information he was looking at now on her own time, and it wouldn't be hard to find. It only took him a few moments to learn of how to go about bringing back destroyed history.
Fantastic. He pushed the laptop away from him. It wouldn't do him any good if he couldn't find out information on his friend. Sure, he could entertain himself on the laptop since it had so many different features on it, but even those could be used against him if he wasn't careful. Most likely, it'd be better to stay away from the device than get hooked on it and leave a trail of crumbs for (f/n) to follow.
Or, maybe, he was being overly cautious and giving her too much credit. It possibly was also his own background that was causing him to think of such things being turned against him. Whatever the reason, he decided to shut off the laptop and stand up. He walked over to the window. No one was outside, and with the lights off in the dining room, he doubted that anyone would be able to see in from one of the other buildings. Perhaps, they could, so he did hide himself behind the green and pink curtains somewhat.
The street certainly looked different. Businesses and homes were given updates, and the street had been repaired so that there were no holes in it. In fact, the pavement looked pretty new. There still were the street lamps from back then. They had new paint on them, but they still had that dull glow to them that was calming to him but eerie to others, especially at this time of night. He wondered how the hotel looked nowadays. Back then, it had been recently renovated, but he was curious to how it looked presently. Maybe, they kept the old look to give some old-fashioned charm since sixty five years was a long time.
Pushing himself off of the window, he let the laptop stay plugged in. The charge symbol hadn't been full, and there was a little light on the side, so he assumed that meant that it still was charging. He'd put it away later, and he went in search of something to read. (F/n) did have financial books up in her room in those fabric cubes. Maybe, he could read up on one of those and see what people were recommending nowadays for how to run a business. It was either that or the cooking books that Anita had, and he frankly wasn't fond of cooking. One, he didn't need to eat anymore. Two, he didn't want to be remembered of his friend's cooking, which was frustratingly good.
Before he went up the stairs, however, he paused. (F/n) had asked him to move out of his room, and he had agreed as long as she had said, "Please." And, she had. Well, he'd have to put the laptop back before Anita came home. Or, he could leave it out and just go into his regular position and let (f/n) make up some excuse for it being in the dining room. Then again, he'd rather hand it to her. In that case, he'd knock. For now, he'd hold off on reading and let her get some sleep since he had said he'd move, but that meant that it'd be another uneventful evening for him.
Thankfully, though, another thought passed through his mind. He glanced over to the laptop. There was one thing on there that he could look up that he figured wouldn't bring him any negative consequences unless Anita logged on and wondered why (f/n) had been looking at such items. It'd create another risk, but he also really want to change clothes. Not to mention that it'd pass the time.
Figuring that she'd want to check on what he was looking up, he knew that she'd see his searches on clothes and get the hint. Hopefully, she'd deliver, or he always could threaten her again if he really had to. Besides even if Anita questioned (f/n), he remembered that it had been her to suggest using him for advertisement purposes. With that in mind, he'd need an outfit that fit such a role.
Humming in thought, he supposed that a casual suit would work. Though, he had no idea what modern day fashion was like in regards to suits. Even back then, however, he mainly wore suits that looked good on him since he was more interested in women's fashion than men's given his late father's company. Wait, that was something that he could research without drawing suspicion unless ... If the company had crumbled, then she might question how he knew about the brand.
Almost, immediately, that spark of thought faded away. No, he couldn't look into that. Otherwise, she really might find out who he had been and was. Sighing, he decided just to search for new clothes. Once he reseated himself and turned the laptop back on, he logged in and waited for things to be ready before he clicked on the one symbol from before. Back to the search bar, he typed in an inquiry about the current suit fashion trends.
Clicking on images, he used the touchpad to scroll through the options. Nothing caught his eyes until he came across a beige suit with a beige sweater and orange undershirt. The orange certainly popped, especially with the orange belt that went with the outfit. There also were orange dress shoes. It was bold, and he liked it. No doubt, it would draw in people and in a good way. He thought that the suit would match his new appearance too.
Lee clicked on the image, and it loaded up the website the image came from. It was from a designer's website, and he looked at the prices for each piece. Ah. There was no way that (f/n) would be able to afford the outfit, not at least until the business was around for a couple of years. Well, he could find something similar for cheaper.
After a bit of searching, he found a few things that were similar enough and also a lot cheaper. He had suspected that prices had gone up quite a bit after seeing the menu prices for the café. Not to mention that designer clothes always were expensive. Still, it was somewhat of a shock to see those prices. Regardless, he figured that what he found wasn't too expensive for modern-day times.
Making sure not to erase any of the history, he turned off the laptop and unplugged it since the charge symbol was full. Plus, the light had changed colors, which he assumed was further verification that it was all charged. With the laptop and charger in hand, he pushed in the chair and headed upstairs. Anita wasn't back yet, not that he minded. To him, she was nothing but a lying piece of scum.
Upstairs, he used his free hand to knock on the door. No answer. He knocked again, though, louder. Still nothing. Was she ignoring him? Or, was she just in that deep of a sleep? Another time, he knocked and even louder than the last. When she didn't answer again, he sighed.
Well, he knocked and wanted to put the laptop back. Not to mention that he needed to get back into the kitchen before Anita came back. Most likely, he had another thirty minutes or so before she entered through the front door. It might be sooner if she decided to come back to the café early.
Setting the laptop and charger down, he lock picked the door again once he got a paperclip. He placed the clip in one of his jacket pockets before he pushed as he suspected the nightstand was back by the door. And, it was. Once in the room, he went back into the hall and retrieved the two items before he headed for her closet. She didn't respond.
After he put the items away, he looked to the financial books. No, he'd do that another time. He'd rather be downstairs early even if there still was a lot of time. But, there was no way to make that certain. Technically, Anita could be back at any time. With the items back, he left the room and closed the door after him. Behind him, no movement sounded.
Heading downstairs, he reached the bottom steps and heard steps as well as talking outside the front door. A few choice words left his lips before he hurried off into the kitchen. Creaking sounded, and he hoped that Anita hadn't heard him. Lee managed to make it into the kitchen, put the paperclip away and get back into position just as the front door opened. The front door closed, and he hadn't been able to make out any of the conversation that she had been having with Kaleb.
Instead of going upstairs, she came towards the kitchen. She flicked on the light and yawned a little as she rubbed her eyes before she set down her belongings. Briefly, her eyes flickered over to him, and she smiled a little. "(F/n) probably left you all lonely down here again," she teased, and he chuckled. If only she knew.
"But, hopefully, she'll like Tristan. Maybe, we should get you a partner." As if he'd let her choose a partner for him. A light laugh left her before she stretched and walked over to another counter. Anita retrieved a piece of paper and pen before she jotted down dishes for service later that morning. "There, all good."
Things in hand, she headed for the kitchen door. "You'll have to be alone for a little bit longer." She waved and headed out of the room. His eyes stayed on the door as it closed. He wondered if she had discussed the dinner with Tristan with Kaleb. Then, he'd know when probably more secrets and lies would come out. He could guide (f/n) along more and watch the tension form.
Grinning at the thought, he moved his limbs a little when he heard her going up the steps. If they had discussed that dinner, he'd find out probably today. Anita sounded like she didn't want to make Tristan wait too long. In fact, it sounded like she wanted Tristan and (f/n) to date as soon as possible, and he couldn't wait to find out why she was so urgent on that matter.
