Quiet to Loud

A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.

Service that day had a steady stream of customers, and it itself wasn't bad at all. The problem was Anita. (F/n) had given her a death glare right before service started, and Anita assumed that it only was about the pool. But, it was so much more than that; however, (f/n) knew that Anita wouldn't understand completely and that she'd be able to get away with the genuine look of dislike. Anita also made the assumption that (f/n) came down later than usual and didn't have breakfast with her because of the pool. Instead, (f/n) just didn't want to deal with her more than she had to, and the pool gave her a perfect excuse for that.

Despite Anita getting the hint that she was more than annoyed about the pool, (f/n) noted that Anita had this mischievous gleam in her light brown optics. (F/n) would note the occasional smirk on her lips too, and she had a feeling that she'd learn what was up after service. Scarlett and the waiting staff just assumed that it was another day of Anita teasing (f/n), but Hal did come over and talk to her at one point. He had noticed the displeased frown on her lips when she thought no one was looking and thought that she genuinely looked pissed off.

Of course, he was right, but she didn't go into details. She only mentioned the pool trip that Anita and her boyfriend planned and that she was going with the guy Anita was trying to hook her up with. Hal, not having the full picture and knowing that she had gone on a few dates beforehand, took it as embarrassment being the source of her dislike for the trip. "Don't worry, (f/n). I'm sure that you'll look beautiful in your bathing suit." He even had given her an encouraging pat on the back before returning to work.

If only that was the problem. Well, she might be worried about that if she was swimming with Lee. For a moment, she blinked, and her eyes briefly glanced over to him. He could see her, but she had no idea what he was thinking or if he even was paying attention to her at that moment. She hoped that he wasn't since there was a bit of heat in her cheeks at the thought of him seeing her in her swim suit. Then again, he had been around when she had been fully nude before; he even had touched her leg.

Now, there was definite heat in her cheeks. Why did she have to remember that now? Annoyed at herself, she rubbed the bridge of her nose and composed herself. As for Lee, he wondered what had caused her to act embarrassed for a moment. She had glanced to him, and he smirked at the thought that perhaps she was thinking about him. But, she had enough on her mind that he wouldn't ask later. Not to mention that he couldn't move during service either.

During service, (f/n) also would think of her conversations with Lee from last night to keep her mind away from Anita and Saturday. It did make work more bearable. She knew his past now and what had triggered him to become a murderer and how he had been betrayed. Lee had trusted her with that information, like she had trusted him with information about her family. Those facts made her admittedly feel closer to him, and they had confirmed that they were friends now.

Not to mention that she accepted even their age difference, and she had learned that despite her aging he'd stay with her. Thinking back on those conversation points, she felt a bit of heat back in her cheeks. Maybe, they would become more than friends, and, perhaps, that's why she felt embarrassed about the bathing suit earlier on when thinking of him. But, getting lost in her thoughts when she wasn't helping customers and staff did made work go by faster.

Unfortunately, that meant that she'd have to talk to Anita all the sooner. In fact once service ended and the other staff left, Anita grinned widely. (F/n) just finished wiping the last table clean, and she tried to ignore Anita for the moment. Of course, that didn't faze Anita at all. "(F/n), you can't ignore me forever." Oh, how she wished she could. Anita walked over to her and pressed her hands on the table. She leaned forward a bit until (f/n) met her gaze annoyed.

"Why, do I have a feeling that I'm not going to like this?" Her tone was less than amused. "Oh, maybe, it's because of the pool date you set up."

"You could've always refused," Anita giggled out before she grinned. "But, you didn't."

"And, you wouldn't have dragged me along regardless?" (F/n) raised a skeptical brow.

"Okay, I would have, but that's beside the point." Anita waved her right hand dismissively. (F/n) merely rolled her eyes. "Anyway, I know that you're all moody about the pool, but," Anita's grin returned, "this is about something else." She stood up fully and crossed her arms like she knew all of the secrets in the world. "You finally accepted their friend requests."

Some part of her hoped that they wouldn't realize that for awhile, but that hope just had been snuffed out. "So?" (f/n) asked, taking a seat. She crossed her arms. "That doesn't mean I'm any closer to them. Just that I'm still giving them both a chance."

"Uh huh. Sure," Anita commented, not believing a word. She grinned again. "Well, they both were happy, especially Tristan." Her hands clapped together. "Now, you just need to tell Tristan you like him and want to become his girlfriend."

Raising a brow, (f/n) didn't look one bit amused. "And, you know I want that how exactly?"

"Oh please." Anita waved her hand dismissively again. "You wouldn't be going on anymore dates with him if you didn't like him." She leaned forward and flicked (f/n) on the forehead, which caused (f/n) to wince. "Now, stop being so stubborn. You already agreed to go to the pool tomorrow." Her hands rested on her hips. "And, you're clearly comfortable around Tristan if you're fine with that."

Yeah right. That couldn't be farther from the truth. (F/n) huffed and blew a few stray strands of hair out of her face. "Right, keep thinking that." She stood back up and headed for the kitchen. "I think that I'm going to get a new swimsuit from town."

"Your current one does cover a bit too much," Anita thought out loud.

That caused (f/n) to pause in her steps. "It's a two-piece, Anita. It already shows a lot."

"Some show more. Surely, you've seen some of the swimsuits coming out now." (F/n) only glared at Anita as though that would block the cogs turning in her ex-friend's mind. A grin touched Anita's lips. "There still is time to shop in town. I can help you pick out something that Tristan would like." He'd probably like her just to go naked given his true personality.

"No, thank you. Forget I said anything." (F/n) headed into the kitchen and felt Anita pulling on her arm. She continued to walk and hung the rag over the faucet to dry. "No. That's my final answer."

"It's not mine!" Anita argued back, and their current conversation could be heard out in the entrance area. Lee was about ready to walk over and knock Anita out. They made swim suits even more revealing than what he had seen? Yeah, no. He wouldn't let (f/n) go near Tristan in anything like that. It already was frustrating and worrying that she'd be heading to the pool in the swim suit she had.

Eventually, the two of them walked out of the kitchen, and (f/n) managed to pull her arm away. "Don't you need to head to the hotel?" (f/n) asked with no amusement. Anita pouted childishly. "Not going to work." (F/n) just wanted to work on her search with Lee more before tomorrow.

"Kaleb can wait a bit." Anita tugged again. "Don't you want to go shopping with your bestie?" (F/n) wouldn't mind, but a mannequin walking beside her might cause a panic.

"Not when you're going to choose out an embarrassing outfit for me." (F/n) sighed when Anita continued to pout. She stepped around Anita and pushed her towards the stairs. "Go get ready. You can shop with Kaleb. Tristan will just have to do with what I have, or should I go buy a one-piece?" At that, Anita turned around and shook her head.

"No, it's fine!" she quickly answered before she winked and ran up the stairs. "I'm sure that he'll still like your current one." (F/n) rolled her eyes and gave a pretend smile that Anita seemed to buy. Anita headed into her room and got ready while (f/n)'s shoulders sagged. That was too close for comfort. She made a mental note not to suggest shopping around Anita anymore.

Glancing over to Lee, she sighed and rested her hand in his that would hold the menu during the day. "She'll hopefully leave soon," she whispered, and she smiled a little when his fingers tightened around hers. There was a little bit of creaking, but it wasn't loud enough for Anita to hear it from the upstairs. If it wasn't risky, he'd pull her into a hug and reassure her that they'd find something else that evening.

"I'm going to go check the café's social media while I wait for her to leave," she whispered again before she pulled her hand away reluctantly. (F/n) headed up to her room and seated herself at her desk after she retrieved her laptop. It was tempting to start looking now for evidence, but she didn't want to risk it while Anita was in the building.

So, she did what she had told Lee she'd be doing and hoped that Anita would get ready quickly. As for Lee, he was thinking something similar so that they had more time to work against those three that evening. Since unfortunately, tomorrow was swiftly approaching.
