Overview to Lead
A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.
Before him, Lee liked to think that he had pieces of Tristan scattered across the countertop. Unfortunately, it only was steak, and the slices weren't the most even. Rather, he did cut the meat somewhat aggressively as he pictured Tristan losing parts of his limbs and screaming for it to stop. Not that he would. No, he'd be happily humming a tune, but that wasn't reality. The only positive thing out of replacing Tristan with meat was that (f/n) could have a decent dinner, and he'd burn Tristan ten times over before he ever fed (f/n) a piece of that swine. Well, he hoped it was decent. It'd be nowhere near how his father made it, especially with some of the ingredients missing. But like the last stir fry, he hoped that it'd remain tasty and satisfying.
Since the meat was cut up and he had the bean sprouts, noodles and chives ready, he worked on cooking everything, with the meat being the first part. Cooking was by no means his favorite thing to do due to his past, but he was making a dish from his childhood before his grandparents messed things up, so he didn't mind it as much. Plus, it was for (f/n). That was also why he made sure that he had what he needed to make her a lime daiquiri too. It might not complement the dish too well, but she liked it, and it was refreshing from what he could remember.
There did run the risk of him damaging himself by cooking, especially with the oil involved, but he did wear oven mitts when he simply was stirring the stir fry. It made for an awkward cooking experience, but he also did like having hands. He did stand back as far as he could from the stove while also reasonably being able to cook.
When he finished cooking and began to plate, he broke out of his thoughts to the sound of the kitchen door opening. (F/n) smiled and commented, "Smells good." She was in her grey pajama top and pants. Her hair was damp to a degree, and she was letting it air dry. On her feet were purple slippers. Noting his oven mitts, she chuckled. "Here let me take over. You already did the cooking anyway," she reassured, and he didn't protest. It let him begin working on her drink. Not to mention she grabbed the pan before he really got to react.
Once she had the food plated, she set the pan aside and retrieved a fork. A note found its way on the counter shortly after. She glanced over to Lee, having heard him moving about in the corner and going between the fridge and counter, and she quirked a brow. "Is that the drink you promised?" He nodded, and she shook her head in amusement and gratitude. Truly, he was one of the kindest people she ever met ... well after she got on his good side and they sorted things out. But, she had accepted that other part of him, and she couldn't deny that he was a better friend than Anita ever had been. And in the future, he possibly could be more.
At the thought, she withdrew her attention from him and read over the note. Are you feeling better? Yeah, she was. She washed herself off and was in comfortable clothes. Plus, she had dinner and a drink all prepared for her by someone who genuinely cared about her, and she returned those feelings back to him.
"I am, especially with all of this." She took a bite of the food and hummed in delight. "Delicious!" Turning around, he had the finished daiquiri, and he held it out to her. He wished she could see his smile, but he was glad that she was enjoying it. "And, a daiquiri of all things." She took the drink. "You certainly know how to spoil me." A hand rested on top of her head, and he gently rubbed his fingers there before he retracted his hand and wrote another note.
You deserve it. But, I have something else for you too. She took a sip of her drink and smiled at the taste. Admittedly, Scott made it better, but it didn't taste terrible by any means. It was pleasant, and it was made by Lee so that balanced out the flavor. A new note was placed in front of her. I found the guy in the picture as well as the girl who kissed Kaleb. The girl who hadn't kissed Kaleb in that club shot has both of them as friends. And, that guy has the girl he was with listed as his girlfriend.
Slowly, (f/n)'s eyes widened, and she placed her drink down before she grinned and pulled him into a hug. "That's great news, Lee!" A chuckle left him, and his arms wrapped around her as she lifted her head up to grin at him. "Now, we have them all!"
Nodding, he let go of her and grabbed her plate and drink before he signaled her to follow. He took them to the dining room farther from the kitchen. After he set the items on the table with the laptop, which he had left there from earlier, he pulled out her chair and took his seat after her. She continued to have a grin even as she ate another bite. It was cute, and he imagined that she'd like the next bit of news even more.
I would've mentioned this sooner, but I wanted to make sure you were alright first as well as relaxed and comfortable. (F/n) waved her hand dismissively to indicate that she didn't mind. She reached over with her free hand to rest it over his left one.
"Thank you, Lee. I appreciate it. I really did need a shower, and this meal is perfect."
You're welcome, and I have more information. After she swallowed another bite, she looked to him curiously and excitedly before her eyes turned to the note passed to her. The girlfriend of the guy has some interesting photos, and not all of them are old. (F/n) paused, and she accepted the next note from him a moment later. They're from a year ago.
"Anita would still use the same excuse to brush them aside, but I take it that they have some good info in them." Lee nodded and turned the laptop screen to her after he ran his finger over the touchpad. (F/n) had no idea what he had managed to find. As she ate another bite of food, her eyes scanned over the first picture. Kaleb was in the shot, and he had his current loose wavy hairstyle that went to his jaw. In the picture were the girl and her boyfriend. They were all partying at what looked like it could be another club. Once again, Kaleb was drinking whiskey while the other had their own beverages.
In the next shot, the girl took a picture of them all dancing, drinks in hand too. A third shot showed Kaleb, who was in the background and looking a little intoxicated, asking a server for another drink. The fourth picture, Kaleb was in the background again. This time, though, the server and he were heading off to the back entrance of the club. Within that same shot, the name of the club was revealed: Toxic Red.
I did some digging into the club's website as well as reviews. Didn't find much except that I discovered who that server was. She doesn't work there anymore, but she did post something interesting a couple days later after that night. Lee pulled up the post and turned the screen back towards her.
Met this guy a couple nights back. A real sweet talker. Fell right for him. Anyway while he thought I was asleep, I heard some call he was taking. He talked about going after some girl when the time was right if her business turned out to be a success. Honestly, feel bad for her whoever she is. Seriously, avoid scumbags like this. It'll save you a headache.
"... If this really is about Anita, then ..." (F/n) smirked. "If we can prove that, we might have something solid." Her eyes met Lee's, and he nodded. "We'll look into those other two from the original club picture as well as finding out what the name of that club is." Humming in thought, she eventually added, "I'm tempted to private message her, but she might ask too many questions. And, I don't know if I can trust her enough not to tell Kaleb even if she does hate him."
It would be a risk, especially since she mentions no names. Maybe, she did that so that he wouldn't notice, and she wouldn't get threatened by him in some capacity. Lee crossed his arms. It's possible that if she heard that call she knows who he is and what he's capable of with his money.
"Yeah, she might just block me." She tapped the screen lightly. "There aren't any comments on the post after all, which is odd too since this is a public post." A sigh parted from her. "Normally, at least one person would write something in response to a message like that."
So, how do we plan to prove that message is connected to both of them if nothing comes up from the other two we're going to research?
"I'm not sure without directly contacting that server. Maybe, look up her coworkers from there and see if they have anything to say about the matter." (F/n) leaned back on her chair and combed her right fingers through her (h/c) (h/l) locks. "But still," she grinned to him, "this is great. We have a lot of work to do, but we're getting places now."
Yes, we are. His left hand took her right when she rested it on the table and gave it a gentle squeeze.
