Nervous to Dine
A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.
His shoulders slacked a bit as if he was sighing, and she watched him grabbed some paper. Yeah, I have. I learned it from someone. (F/n) raised a brow. He obviously didn't want her to know who, but they had to be someone important. Or, maybe not, but she had a gut feeling. Even if she couldn't hear his tone, the note just had that feeling to it even if it was a simple message.
"Who?" It was a long shot, but it didn't hurt to try. Like expected, though, he didn't answer. "Someone important?" Maybe if she pushed a little. He didn't pause, but he didn't look at her either; he just focused on marinating the flank steak with ginger, cornstarch and water. "It seems like it is, though. Otherwise, you would've told me, 'no,' already."
Lee stopped what he was doing and grabbed a note. Soon enough, it was being held out to her. Taking it, she read over it and frowned. Maybe, I'll let you in on one of my secrets if you give me your usernames and passwords for all of your searches on your laptop.
"No." He met her gaze. "I'm not letting you know who my family is. I don't want you involving them in this." Lee stood up straight, and his right fingers tapped against the knife handle. "... I won't tell you. You can mess with me, not them. If you had someone important to you, you can understand why I don't want harm to come to them." When he went to write a note, she continued, "And, don't argue that you won't hurt them. I don't trust you."
Continuing to write, he threw a note at her, and she caught it. Even if I were to kill you for not telling me? Even if I were to torture you? Torture Anita? She noticeably gulped. Her hands shook, and she wished that she could see his actual expression rather than the permanent neutral one on his face.
"I won't let you harm them." She set the note aside and prepared herself to run for the front door as he stood up straighter. Her heartbeat increased, and she slowly created some distance between them. "Even Anita ... Well, she isn't here right now. And, I can warn her." That was if she could make it to the front door and leave. She'd also have to outrun him outside, which she didn't know if she could do that.
Of course, she wasn't aware that he couldn't leave the house, but he could draw her family in somehow. He had done that before with some of his victims. Not necessarily their family members but to their significant other, friend or coworker. However, her refusal to give him the information gave him a vital detail. Anita wasn't more important than her family. Good. That'd allow the doubt to seep in further. Lee supposed that was enough to convince him not to demand access to some of her more personal information.
Another note came to her. Very well. I won't look into it. You still have more locations on your laptop for me to look through, but, maybe, you can explain all those circle pictures of people and the notes next to them. Somewhat, she relaxed, but she kept the current distance between them, especially since he had a knife near him. Her brows furrowed a little bit, however, at the second part of the note.
"If I'm understanding you correctly, I think that you mean other users' profiles and comments." He motioned for her to explain further. "You probably were looking at our business's social media pages. Other people are on those sites. They can leave comments and reviews on our business page."
When Lee nodded, she assumed that he understood her. Soon, another note came to her. That does seem like it can be useful for a business. By the way, you need a rice cooker. It's much easier. Slightly, she relaxed a bit more since he was writing more casual messages, which hopefully was a good sign. Then again, he could do a one-eighty on her.
"Well, we've never needed one before, and Anita handles the cooking tools. If I start buying things, she's going to think that's odd. Even this, she might think as odd." She crossed her arms and leaned back against the counter, her mind still a bit disoriented from his threat earlier. "You should've just let me eat the apple and cheese." A small smirk touched her lips as he made sure to have a pot with water and rice cooking too, but he didn't touch it after starting it. He even moved back a bit to get her to come over and keep an eye on it so that the water didn't boil over. If it weren't his prior threat and him being near to multiple weapons, she probably would've refused. "You're giving me more information about you."
Peering over to her, he waited for her to continue. "You know what you're cooking. Someone, probably important, taught you how to make it. And, that means that you could eat food at some point." Her smirk grew. "So, you weren't always a mannequin."
He rocked back and forth a little. Maybe, he had let a bit about himself slip, but it wasn't anything too useful. Then again, he supposed that her knowing that he hadn't always been a mannequin was vital, but she knew that he had some sort of past. She still didn't have really any info on that, so it'd be hard to look for him on her laptop if he even came up on it. If his father's company was gone, he might not. Not to mention that she didn't even know his last name or his father's company's name.
I suppose. But, there still are many options on what I could be. And, some of those can be very dangerous to you. I'm already dangerous to you, or you wouldn't have been planning to bolt out of the kitchen a little bit ago. A frown touched her lips. That was true. She'd need to try and look into the history of this town more. Since the building itself didn't hold answers, that might. Even if he saw that she was researching that on her laptop, it wouldn't be new information. He already knew that she was trying to figure out who or what he was. Another note flew over to her. Can you stand by the pan and get it prepped and heated up? I'll hand the ingredients to you, and you stir.
"... You're right. Would you really have gone after my family? And, why did you stop?" Quickly, she added, "Not that I mind." As for his other note, she nodded but watched him carefully. He thankfully stood back a bit from her, but she didn't drop her guard. Once the pan was ready and heated, he handed her the stems of the broccoli and the florets after the stems were cooked for a bit. Lee still hadn't answered her questions, which did cause her to worry.
Passing the meat to her, his dark brown optics locked with her (e/c) ones. He nodded, and a chill traveled up her spine. Nearly, she dropped the meat, but she managed to put it in the pan. Afterwards, he rinsed and dried his hands off well. Luckily, his limbs were made so that liquids wouldn't get into his joints that easily, and he had been careful when handling the food and water. Lee soon wrote another note, though. I'm capable of that. But, you gave me something in return still. That's why I stopped. Easily, he could see that she became nervous, and she didn't take the salt he handed to her for the seasoning. Normally, a sauce would be used, but they lacked those ingredients to make it.
So, he quickly added the salt into the dish and motioned for her to keep stirring, which she gradually did as he grabbed a plate and bowl for her. The rice should be done soon as well. He wrote another note in the process. Also about Anita thinking you eating this as odd, you could just say that you wanted to try something new. It's simple and effective. And, she's too busy with Kaleb and trying to dictate your dating life to question you more on your eating habits.
"... I suppose that'll work, but what do you mean?" She turned off the stove as he wrote a note saying that the dish was ready. Lee grabbed the plate and served her the dish with the rice. He set it on the counter and got her a fork and spoon since he couldn't find any chopsticks around. "... Lee?"
Instead of answering her, he put together a spoonful for her and held it out to her. Hesitant, she walked over. "Will you answer if I eat that?" He nodded, and she didn't really want to move closer to him or let him feed her. "Can I have the spoon?" Lee continued to hold it out to her. Lightly, she sighed before she took a bite. It wasn't ... bad. Sure, it wasn't Anita's cooking, but it was good. Since he just was staring at her, she figured that he wanted to know how it tasted. "Yeah, it's not bad. Now, answer me." Only his staring replied to her. "Please."
A nod of approval left him, and he wrote a note. Anita's isn't as important to you as I thought. Otherwise, you would've given me your usernames and passwords. Again, she felt like he was smirking. Thank you for telling me that. Now, he had to be chuckling even if he wasn't rocking back and forth. Realization at what she had given away, though, caused her to pause.
"I ... She's still important to me!" she finally argued back. Her hands now clenched into fists. "Otherwise, I wouldn't be doing all of these things for her! She's my best friend!"
In front of her, there was another note. Yes, she is, but you care for your family more. That's not a bad thing. It just tells me your priorities. However ... She paused in reading when he leaned in closer, and she took a step back. One of her hands now clenched around the counter. (F/n) read over the note more when he tapped his right fingers against it. I wonder if you let Anita walk all over you because you're scared to start over with a new friendship. You don't want to hurt her feelings, but, deep down, you know that you might have to if she keeps pushing you. And, it terrifies you that you might not ever find another friend and that you'll lose such a long-lasting friendship.
Uncontrollably, she gulped and tried not to let his words get to her. He wrote more. But, let me ask you this. Has this really been a long-lasting friendship, or has she just been stringing you along this whole time? Her hand clenched the counter more. (F/n) found that she couldn't answer. No, he was wrong. But if Anita truly reciprocated the friendship, why would she betray her? Wait, Anita hadn't betrayed her. That was Lee's words, but doubt was creeping in, and his words were sticking in her head.
