Locked to Evening

A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.

Anita had come and gone from the kitchen, her fingers typing away on the strange small device. He had been planning to move again, but another door had opened when hers had closed. Footsteps had followed, and (f/n) came down soon after. It had been tempting to mess with her in that moment, but it had been too obvious, so he had waited for a better moment. At times, he hadn't been able to keep himself from chuckling since she had glanced his way every now and then with suspicious stares.

When she finally had left and eaten, he had waited a little bit before moving again. Her room door closed, and he waited a little bit longer. Once enough time passed in his opinion, he began to move. Light creaking followed, but when he reached the base of the stairs, he noticed that all of the lights were off upstairs. There were no sounds of televisions or those small devices playing a show. A smirk fell on his lips, but his expression remained neutral. Not requiring sleep anymore really had its benefits.

Going up the stairs, he managed to be as quiet as he possibly could with his limbs creaking every now and then. He didn't even glance towards Anita's room. Rather, he focused on (f/n)'s. None of him moved, though, as he listened for any sounds coming from within her room; he listened into Anita's room for a moment. Nothing alerted him.

Resting his hand on the doorknob, he turned it. The door didn't open. A chuckle escaped him. So, she locked the door this time around. Smart girl. Unfortunately for her, he had picked quite a few locks in his time, and he was very familiar with the lock on the room she was in. Having lived in it himself had its benefits. He turned around and went to go find a paperclip. They should still have those around ... hopefully. Seriously, why was there no calendar in the building?

As he walked away, (f/n) was fast asleep in her bed. Her maroon comforter hid most of her form, and only the top part of her head peeked out from under the covers. (F/n)'s arms were wrapped around one of her pillows, and a peaceful smile was on her lips. So far, no nightmare was greeting her sleep, and she currently was having a dreamless one.

Being in a deep sleep, she wasn't aware of the paperclip entering the space in the doorknob, and she didn't hear the lock clicking open. The doorknob turned, and the door slowly opened. It closed soon after, and the lock clicked shut again. Light creaking followed. As it got closer to her bed, her peaceful smile morphed into a slight frown. A groan of discomfort parted from her lips, and she hugged her pillow tighter.

At the end of her bed, a form stood and stared. A head turned from her towards her bathroom. Steps followed. The door already was opened, and eyes looked around. It was slightly different from before. The location of the sink, toilet and shower/tub were all in the same locations, but they looked newer and had different colors. Not to mention that the tiling on the walls and floor had changed too. They changed from mint green tiles on the lower walls and floor to dark purple on the walls and grey ones on the floor, and the bathtub was white with a black shower curtain. As for the sink, it simply looked like a newer model but remained white, and the toilet was a newer model with a black toilet seat cover. Admittedly, the new changes did look more appealing. Maybe, they should've been changed back then.

Regardless, the remodeling wasn't his focus. Instead, he closed the bathroom door slightly and flicked on the light switch. Enough light still entered the room and shone directly onto her bed. She didn't move at first, but when more light fell onto it, she moaned a bit in her sleep from the disturbance. Eventually, she did wake up, and she squinted her eyes. Was it morning already?

Confused, she sat up in her bed to check on the source, but it became dark again after she rubbed her eyes. She saw slight movement out of the corners of her eyes and looked towards her bathroom. The door was where she left it, and the light was off. Her gaze switched over to her door. It remained locked. Had she been about to dream? That didn't make sense, however, since the light had felt far too real.

Even more puzzled, she got up from her bed. No car lights would come through her window since it didn't face the street. It looked out into the backyard. Weird. She diverted her gaze to the bathroom. Going over there, she flicked on the light. It shone onto her bed with the same amount of illumination that had woke her up. (F/n) leaned against the doorframe and sighed before she looked to both sides of the bathroom. Nothing.

Peering around the back of the door, she didn't see anything either. Maybe, it really had been her dreaming. Annoyed at being woken up by her own dream, she switched off the light and climbed back into bed. After a little while, movement in her bathroom happened. From behind the pushed-together shower curtains, which provided just enough coverage, the form stepped out of the tub and headed towards the door.

Flicking the light switch back on, the form watched her move around in her bed and groan. As soon as she sat up, the form crouched down to the ground. She groaned loudly and muttered, "What the f*ck is wrong these dreams?" (F/n) rubbed the bridge of her nose and stared towards her bathroom. Everything was how it should be, and when she looked to her door, it remained locked. Absolutely irritated, she huffed and was about to throw the covers over herself when her whole body froze. What ... was ... that?

Slowly, she turned her head back to the bathroom, but this time she stared down towards the ground. There, crouched in the doorway was ... Her hands trembled, and she shook her head. Quickly, she closed her eyes. It was a nightmare. Just a nightmare. Light creaking followed. No. No. No. Hesitantly, she opened her eyes, and it was gone. For a long while, she just sat there and watched, waiting for something to strike. She almost unplugged the lamp again, but nothing happened. Was she truly in a dream and her mind just was refusing to let her wake up?

Slightly, her shoulders relaxed, and she cautiously slipped under her covers more. She placed her head back on the one pillow and rolled over onto her right side. (E/c) eyes widened, and the breath seemed to leave her. There, right in front of her was its face. Blank dark brown eyes stared at her, and thin, unmoving lips remained in a neutral position. Before her mind could process anymore what she was seeing, she felt darkness slip around her, and she fell against her pillow unconscious.

How amusing. He was going to knock her unconscious if she hadn't fainted, but it looked like things worked in his favor. The next time, though, he might have to use force. Standing up to his full height, he glanced around the space and spotted that small device. So, she had one too.

Picking it up, he looked it over and tried to remember what that Scarlett woman had been doing. The item looked like a similar model to that other one, but it had a maroon cover on it with purple roses. He turned it to its side and saw a small button there. After he pressed it, the thing came on and showed a background image of Anita and (f/n) smiling together. There also were a lot of little symbols along the top of the phone, which he had no idea what any of those meant.

In the center of the screen, he saw the time. Eleven ten in the evening. It also gave the date. Friday, the twenty-seventh of March. Annoyingly, it didn't state the year. Below that, though, there was a spot to enter a code. He didn't know the code, but he tried to tap the screen. Nothing happened. When he tried again and again, nothing happened once more. Looking to his fingers, he wondered if it was because of what they were made of.

Testing out his theory, he picked up her left hand and touched her index finger to one of the numbers. It worked! Huh, so he would need someone else to touch the screen for him to learn anything from the device, which apparently was a clock and somewhat of a calendar too. He certainly had missed a lot during all that time that he had been locked up down there.

Presently, though, he couldn't do anything more with the device because he didn't know the code. He'd have to look for it. Perhaps, she wrote it down and hid it somewhere in her room. Placing her hand how it had been, he set the phone back down on the nightstand after he pressed the button on the side again. The screen went black, so he assumed that it was off now. He crossed his arms and tapped his foot against the floor before he looked over to her desk. Behind him, he heard her move, and he remained still for a little bit.

"Uh, my head," she muttered and rolled onto her other side. Carefully, she got up from her bed, and she almost fell when she stood up. "D*mn nightmare," she groaned out before she headed to her bathroom and closed the door behind her, too tired and recovering from her fainting to notice him. Even though he wanted to search through her desk, he knew that it'd be too risky, so he lowered himself and slipped himself under her bed until she was asleep again.

Coming out of her bathroom a few moments later, she climbed back in bed. He heard her shift above him, and he waited once more for awhile. Once he felt that it was safe to come out, he crawled out from under the bed and was tempted to go over to the desk, but he figured that he always could do that on another night if he didn't find out the code before then. Perhaps, he'd get lucky, and he'd see her type it in. Or, he could use the phone that her friend was using, but he'd rather avoid that if it meant going into her room. If both of them starting seeing him in the night, then it might be harder to pass it off that they were dreaming. With that in mind, he quietly made his way out of the room, but he made sure to lock the door before he left. When the door was shut, it clicked back into place, and it was like he never had been in there.
