Shattered Dreams
Violence in this chapter.
Voldemort POV
I waited inside the now abandoned orphanage, waiting for my wife to appear. The pocketwatch in my hands slowly ticked on, making my anxiety spike even more.
If she doesn't show up, what will I do? I knew all too well the yearning my heart was feeling towards her, but I gave her space to recollect her memories and see that despite everything that transpired between us, I really only did care for her more than she will ever understand.
There was a gust of wind as thunder cracked across the sky and there she was. Cloak over her face and wand in hand, she was right here.
"Moony-"
"Let's drop the sentiment," she said in a harsh tone and removed her hood, revealing the pretty (color) stands of hair that I used to love running my fingers through. "You call me (y/n), Voldemort."
I felt a stab at the heart. "No Tom? Tommy?"
"He never existed to me the moment you stripped me of my memory. Why did you call me here, away from my responsibilities and family."
"I am your family," I looked down at her left hand and tensed when I saw the wedding ring wasn't on her. "(y/n), where is your ring?"
"That useless piece of junk?" She shrugged. "You honestly think I'd keep that crap? It sold nicely at Borgon and Burkes, I bought new clothes for the younger twins."
At the mention of the children I had never met, I clenched my first. "...How did you get through it? I heard you talking to that Titus fucker. You didn't have me next to you. Were they born without issues?"
"Yes. They arrived safely, but I want to ensure their safety." She threw a tiny book at me and I eagerly opened it, my heart swelling with joy when I saw it was a tiny photo album of our family.
"Daphne takes after you, Caelum takes after Pollux. My genes run strong in our family, hm?" My eyes hesitated when I saw Victor. "And Victor looks just like that brother of yours."
(y/n) slapped me hard, glaring at me. "He is my son, you will not comment on him."
"I wasn't!" I grabbed her hand, desperately trying to search for any sense of affection or even sadness in her eyes. Instead, I was met with a cold expression. "I've missed you. Please, won't you come back to me?"
"Why should I?" She tried to get out of my grasp, but that only made me yank her into my embrace. My body shivered at it.
"I haven't ever forgotten you or our love," I whispered in her ear. "Many women throw themselves at me, but it's you I want. Choose me, (y/n). Leave the Order."
"Never." She still squirmed to get out of my arms, but I only squeezed her tighter.
"You will die if you do not give in," I pleaded. "The only reason why you and the children are not threatened is because I tell my followers not to harm you. But there is only so much more disobedience I can take."
She lifted her gaze as I moved her face up. "Voldemort, that is exactly why I cannot ever be yours again. You threatened our very lives, murdered so many innocent muggles. Our sons are ashamed to be yours, and they are outcasted because of what you have done. My job as Head of Slytherin is in jeopardy because of my marriage to you."
Is she about to..."Darling, are you....will you...?" I couldn't even form the words.
"Divorce you?" She stared directly at me. "I already filed the paperwork, you need to sign it."
"But what about the children? Surely they-"
"No." She got out of my embrace and took something from her pocket and let it fall to the ground. It was her wedding ring. "It is their decision to see you, but only once they turn 16. We're over, Voldemort."
What should've been a beautiful reunion was nothing but a final goodbye. Moments ago I had everything; a wife, beautiful children, power, and fame. Everything I had wanted before, but it was all falling apart.
"You can't leave me!" I collapsed onto the ground, my heart pulsating. "You still love me! I know it!"
She stopped where she was, giving me a look of pity. "Voldemort. Take a look at your right arm. You will see the death mark as well as our unbreakable vow. Its truly a paradox that the two things that will destroy you are on the same arm."
"But neither of us are dead," I tried to reason. "So we're still in love. I would give everything up for you, you can't leave me like this!"
She walked over to me and bent down, holding my shaking form in her gentle hands. "Tom, you lied to me so many times, stole my memories, murdered my family and closest friends. I cannot trust you anymore and I cannot love you."
Hearing her call me by my given name after years of no one saying it struck a chord within me. This was truly the last time I was going to see her, unless I did something about it.
"Moony, you've driven me to madness." I desperately tried to reason with her. "If I can't have you, I don't know what I'd do. Don't push me to attack you."
Its the only way to keep you.
She gave me a disgusted look. "The fact you said that is everything I needed to know. We are done, Voldemort. That unbreakable vow you keep talking about? Before Philip went missing, he transferred the bond over to our son Pollux since he's the same blood as you. And I know about your little trick with your family ring. I don't love you anymore, and I want you to stay far away from me. You do not love me, you are obsessed with me."
"NO!" I got up and grabbed her, putting my hand over her mouth so she couldn't scream and throwing her wand far across the room, wrapping my other arm around her tightly. "I love you so much. And if I have to whisper it every single day in your ear for you to believe me, then I will."
I let her face go and pulled out my wand, kicking her away from me and pointing the wand at her.
"Crucio!"
A horrifying scream left her as she writhed around in pain. I stared at her coldly, thinking how she had cursed me without ever raising her wand to me.
"You did this to me," I said as I leaned down, her eyes glaring at me with hatred and contempt.
"I hate you!" She managed to choke out, trying to grab me but I easily moved away and turned up the pain.
"Say you love me!" I screamed. "Or else I will find a muggle and kill them in front of you! SAY IT."
Her screams got louder and she began clawing at her neck as I moved the pain directly onto her neck, as if I was stepping on it. I kicked her multiple times, remembering everything.
"Your love was my biggest blessing and curse," I said to her with a sad grin. "But you showed me that it is meaningless and that everyone eventually betrays you. I had hoped that you wouldn't betray me, and here you are. I spared you, but I see now that I shouldn't have."
I picked up the wedding ring, the one I had personally crafted just for her, placing it in my pocket. "I loved you despite everything, Moony. I still crave it, but I don't care what you feel towards me." I turned off the pain for a moment and grabbed her face, her lips bloody. I kissed her deeply and held her down. "I don't care what you desire from me. As long as you feel something towards me then I will accept it. You may not want me anymore, but you are eternally bound to me."
"Now, say you love me. Even if you don't mean it." I held her in my arms, staring down at her lovely face that was covered in bruises from the curse I placed. "I want to hear it."
She turned away from me with the little strength she had. "I hate you. Meeting you was an error but falling for you? That was the worst mistake."
"Hm, not quite what I wanted to hear." I placed the curse on her again and stood up, rain pouring down outside. I ignored her screaming and went over to where I threw her wand. I gave it to her and turned off the curse. "Duel me."
She stood up weakly and I had to admire her strength. Most witches and wizards I had tortured would've passed out by now, but I knew I was holding back. Despite all the hate she felt and all the betrayal I felt, I still loved her. "I hate you."
"Don't they all," I shrugged. "So do something about it, Moony. Kill me right here and end this whole charade. Right here, right now. You know the spell."
I walked closer to her as she lifted her wand and I easily blocked her spells. True she was a powerful witch and I had seen her duel Abraxas and win, but with me, she couldn't overpower. "The difference between you and me is that I'm not afraid to use any means to get what I want." I grabbed her neck and pushed her against the wall, kissing her roughly. "And that means I can kill you at any moment."
"Yet you won't," she taunted. "You're all talk and no action with me. Go ahead and kill me like you killed everyone else."
Our relationship was always like this, both of us being hotheads but when it really came down to it, neither of us could kill the other. Our bond ran far deeper than that, and she herself knew it. Even though I took her memories away and they returned, she saw just how much we treasured each other.
"Darling, this Fatal Attraction of ours will be the downfall of everything," I said to her in a gentle voice and forcefully moved her wand out of her hand. "I will be waiting your decision. Join us and everyone you love will be spared. Or watch them die and then you will have no one else to turn to except me. By then, you'll be labeled a traitor and I can't protect you from my followers going after you. But if you make it to our headquarters, I will welcome you with open arms. It is that easy."
"I will never follow you."
"Then I am truly sorry. Good luck finding our headquarters." I apparated out, looking at her with love for the last time. "You chose your side, (y/n). There is no going back."
Once I got back to Malfoy Manor, I held the tiny booklet that contained photos of our family.
"Sir?"
I turned my head and saw Bellatrix Black with her sister Narcissa Black, along with Lucius Malfoy. "You may tell the others that (y/n) Riddle is to be treated as an enemy. Whoever captures and brings her to me alive shall be rewarded. Spare the children, but kill everyone else."
Bellatrix obeyed my orders and told her parents. I opened the booklet and saw a photo of all five of them sitting beside each other during the holidays. It's time I meet my children and get them to join the noble cause.
