one: it only gets harder
"Do you want me to drive you home?" I ask Mia as we're closing up the Toretto diner. I grab my purse and take out my cars keys.
The younger Toretto smiles and takes my offer. We don't talk much until we reach the street where Dom and Mia's house is on.
"How are you?" she asks softly. "You've been distance lately. Especially when my brother is around."
I sigh. Mia knows about my feelings for Dom, and my inner turmoil about keeping those in check. Letty and Dom broke up a few months ago, but I still don't feel okay in attempting to see where things go with Dom considering Letty is my best friend. With the looks Dom and I share, especially recently, and the secret touches he steals—I can tell Letty is suspecting something. The last thing I want is to hurt her. She knows Dom and I are close friends, and I don't want her thinking anything else—at least until I can talk to her about it.
"I'm okay Mia. Just need some space from your brother."
I see her pursue her lips and shake her head. "I love Letty just the same as I love you, and I want you happy too. Everyone has always known there has always been something between you and my brother. Even Letty Alexis."
Running my fingers through my hair, I lean back in the seat. "I don't want to hurt her Mia, but Dom—I don't know how much longer I want to hold myself back."
"He cares for you," she admits, looking at me. "You can tell by the way he looks at you. He loves Letty, but the love he has for you doesn't even compare. I think it scares both of you."
I let out a soft laugh. "When did you become so wise in our love life?"
"Since I have to sit back and not do anything about it when it's clear you two love each other. Letty will understand if you talk to her Alexis."
I nod, but it's not that easy. I still run with Letty doing robberies with Dom and everyone else, and I don't want that to be messed up before we hit the mother lode. "Well, I'll see you later."
Mia smiles at me and curves her hand around my cheek. "Do something to make you happy for once Alexis. Be selfish." She kisses my cheek before getting out of my car and walking inside her house.
My eyes travel to the driveway to see Dom's car gone. Sighing, I put the car in drive and go back to my small, one story house about five minutes away from the Toretto house. I walk inside and flip the lights on. Setting my purse on the counter top, I get a bottle of water from the refrigerator when the backdoor shuts with a squeak. Almost chocking on the water, I turn with wide eyes to see the intruder. I wipe my mouth with the back of my hand, shaking my head.
"Jesus Dom, you scared me."
The corners of his lips turn up. "I can see that." He rounds the counter as I set down the bottle. "It's not like it's the first time I've done it though."
"Still," I sigh and jump up on the counter. "Every time freaks me out." Smiling, I poke his chest as he stands in front of me. "And you know it too."
"It's fun this way." He shrugs. "How was your day?"
I shrug, kicking my feet back and forth. "It was okay. Worked with Mia. Watched that kid flirt with her again. Nothing too exciting."
Dominic comes forward a little. My right foot brushes his pant leg when it kicks out again, but that doesn't stop the man from coming closer. My legs stop moving as I watch him stand in front of me. His hands settle beside my hips, the tips of his thumbs brush my bare skin before traveling up to touch my shorts.
Sensing the danger in this position, I push at his chest. "How about we watch a movie?" I suggest, hopping off the counter when Dom takes a step back. "What are you in the mood for?"
I walk down the short hallway into my room where my collection is. As I'm kneeling down, I hear him enter the room and stand by the door.
"It's too bad you don't have a VHS player in your living room."
I send Dominic a glare over my shoulder before grabbing a movie to put into the VHS player. "Why is that?" I find myself questioning him, knowing the answer already. I stand up and jump on my bed when the previews for other movies start to play. Dom's eyes meet my own as I smirk and crawl up the bed.
He shakes his head. "You know why Alexis," he says, walking over and sitting beside me with his back against the headboard.
I wrap my arm around him and rest my head on his chest. I'll allow myself to have this moment. "It's complicated Dom."
"You should talk to Letty." He waits a few seconds before adding, "I'm getting tired of fighting this. Aren't you?"
I don't want to admit it because that seems hurting Letty, but there's only so much a heart can take before it starts to drown. This—between Dom and me—it only gets harder to fight.
AN: here is the first chapter! So excited to start this.
I love Dom and Letty together, but my boy needed a story
