we rocked her grandmother's car

all four tires crunched dry gravel

our silhouettes were shadows

caused by the lone streetlamp

perspiring .. we collapsed on the trunk

no sooner than we'd caught our breath

a voice was heard through the darkness

someone was whispering.. Lisa .. Lisa

I tucked my shirt in .. buckled my belt

her cousin had been watching us

he said it's really a good thing

her grandmother had the tv on loud

we were noisy .. could wake the dead

related he'd come over to visit briefly

saw her boyfriend enter the front door

he began watching a movie

I said oh hell .. she said damn

buttoning her shirt .. she said bye

please call me next time you're in town

explained she's breaking up with her boyfriend

kind of confused .. I shook my head

we embraced for a quick passionate kiss

she related she'd turn the porch light on

as soon as I was out of sight

her cousin shook my hand

said welcome to the family

made my way back to the bus station

wasn't long until I passed out in a chair

near daylight .. Lisa showed up

said she'd give me a ride to Louisiana

she'd borrowed her grandmother's car

I was happy to ride .. I tell you that

those highways were too hard to hitchhike

it was mostly farmland .. country roads

riding from her state to mine .. I mused

halfway there she abruptly pulled over

she smiled seductively .. how was I to refuse
