There was a click as Momma turned the safety off and held the gun at Kira. "I should have done this a long time ago Kira... My sweet girl. I just wanted to keep you so badly..." She had been holding the girl hostage for almost a month now. But caught her and her Son Zane escaping during a hero raid.

For the first time they both noticed the tears brewing in Momma's own eyes. The only shred of humanity she'd shown to Kira. A small tear of guilt.

"If you had only been good... Obeyed like me Zane..." The woman whispered. Her grip on the gun tightened as she prepared to shoot. Ready to put Kira down like a dog who was too dangerous to keep any longer. "I would have given you everything..."

"You can't give me anything..." Kira whispered. "I would have been your prisoner. Your slave. I choose freedom."

"You choose death." Momma whispered as she took aim. Taking a deep breath in... And pulling the trigger.

"Naive little girl..."

Bang.

Kira didn't ask how or when Zane acquired a gun.

She barely had time to think before he used it. Pulling it from the waist of his jeans and firing at his own mother. He probably didn't think either.

The bullet shot through her chest. Straight into her heart. She took a gasping breath and fell to her knees. Then on her back, eyes open in shock, mouth gaping in a silent scream.

Dead.

"Oh God... Oh God oh God I'm sorry!" Zane whispered. Dropping the gun. "Mom... Mom I'm sorry i-"

"Hey!" Kira said, grabbing him as he spiraled. Holding his shoulders.

"I-i-i killed her." He whispered. Eyes wide.

"Look at me." Kira said, grabbing his face. Forcing him to look away from his dead mother. She was just as shocked as he was. But she was now running on adrenaline. Her fever forgotten as she ignored the throbbing pain in her eye. "We have to go."

"I killed someone... I killed her..." Zane whispered again.

"Please Zane! Please you have to stay with me." Kira begged. He was her only hope. She couldn't let him spiral into a panic. Not now. Not yet. They both had to get out of here.

"Kira I killed her... I-I'm a murderer."

"No you're not. You were scared you saved me." Kira said, holding him tightly. "We have to go."

"I killed someone." He whispered. His thoughts were far from her. She needed him to come back to reality. And fast.

"Zane look at me." Kira said, mustering up a strong authority in her tone. But she was weak. Hands shaking.

His face was in her direction but his eyes were unfocused. Thinking the same thing over and over.

"I'm a murderer. I'm a horrible person. She loved me and I killed her. I'm a murderer-"

Kira did the only thing she could think of to snap him out of it. Holding the sides of his face and pulling the taller boy closer to her. Pressing her lips against his.

She kissed him.

It was like a flip of a switch. His thoughts immediately changing track. At first he didn't move to kiss her back. Standing in shock and confusion. He wasn't like Bakugou, the only other person Kira had ever kissed. She felt guilty as she thought of him. Bakugou was passionate and emotional. He was always at 100%. His kisses reflected that.

But Zane was shy... And sweet. Barely moving until the end. Her awkwardly moved his face to be closer. A few moments before she pulled away.

"Sorry. But I needed you to focus." Kira gasped, pulling away with a blush.

"Did you kiss me?" He asked nervously. "Why?"
"That was a kiss right? I've never really seen one before... Let alone experienced it... My hearts beating really fast, why'd that feel so... Nice?"

Kira had almost forgotten that Zane was completely and totally sheltered. Without much exposure to... Well anything normal.

"Yes... Sorry but I..." Kira shook her head. "Focus. We need to get out of here remember?!"

"Right." He muttered, staring at her. "I can't focus... On anything other than her..."

He carefully brushed a hair out of her face.

Kira grabbed his hand. "Let's go."

"Are you okay?" Zane muttered, holding Kira's hand as they ran through the hallways. The building shaking.

Kira nodded weakly, her breathing sounded more like wheezes. She was getting worse. "Just... Keep going..." She whispered.

"Hold on." Zane said, picking her up easily. "Does this hurt?" He asked. Holding her bridalstyle.

"...no..." Kira whispered. Her eye fluttering closed.

"Please stay awake..." Zane pleaded. "I don't think I can do this on my own..."

"Okay... W-well should avoid combat... We could get caught in the cross fire... Just... Get as far from the villa as you can okay? Some pro on the outskirts is bound to find us..." Kira said, trying to think through her foggy brain.

"Right okay!" Zane nodded. Running with Kira in his arms.

Zane struggled up a hill. They were pretty fat from the villa. But he didn't know when to stop. When he looked in the distance. Far through the trees he could see a few buildings miles away. He'd seen them over and over again from the villa during his time there. Always wishing to one day escape there. Away from his mother.

Now... He was actually doing it. He cried, without much noise as he carried Kira. He knew his mom was a bad, bad person. But... She was still his mother. He had always resented her a little... But never wanted her dead. He had wished... She'd turn a new leaf... She'd change and be a good person... A good mother.

But she didn't. Until the end she was...

Evil.

He didn't... Regret what he did... If he had done it a few months ago he would have but... Then he met Kira.

And Kira was good.

Kira was perfect. She was selfless and kind... She was smart and she liked him. No one ever liked him before. Other than Oshita. But her love was mean and selfish and manipulative. Like she was.

When Zane saw that it was Kira... Or Momma...

When he realized she was actually going to kill Kira... His body moved without thinking. Choosing good over evil.

Choosing freedom over captivity.
