Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Loki wasn't used to passing out; he'd only ever had that happen to him once before when he had been a child seeing the injured soldiers coming back from battle, so to experience it again make him feel sick. Feeling like he'd been dragged over broken glass, Loki woke up on the cold hard floor of his cell, his mind still struggling to process what had happened. Then like a light switch, everything came flooding back.

He sat bold upright, a cold sweat running down him as his wide eyes looked at the sleeping figure of Rebecca. She still lay in the same position he'd left her in what felt like hours ago, her hands still shackled. He breathed an uncertain sigh of relief; at least she hadn't tried to kill him whilst he'd been out cold. What had he done? Loki had told her the truth about who she was, that she was an Asgardian, and now he barely recognized her. There was nothing left of the sweet innocent Rebecca, the harmless human he'd kidnapped back on earth. Now she was like ... some unforgiving demon. Loki She'd tried to kill him, and used whatever dark magic was inside her to even fight back against his own magic. He had truly created a monster.

Brushing a hand shakily through his hair, he sat there pondering what to do. The usual chaos of the prison outside merely sounded like a whisper to him, so used to the arguing of the prisoners and guards that he barely noticed one of them outside the cell, looking directly at him. Loki finally looked over at him, and felt his blood run cold. His illusion wasn't there, so the guard was looking directly at him through the light barrier, his eyes fixed on his. "Haven't you got more pathetic creatures to watch over", Loki snapped coldly at him, jumping up to his feet. Again, the guards expression did not change, nor did he move away. "I said LEAVE!", Loki snapped at the guard, advancing towards him in a sudden rage. Immediately the guard advanced back, drawing his sword, looking petrified. "Enough!". Another guard soon appeared outside the cell, looking coldly between the terrified guard and Loki, making their intentions known. "You don't need to worry about scum like him. Our entertainment tonight will be his torture", the newest guard snarled, stepping right up to the barrier, staring Loki straight in the face. Loki's lips curled into a sinister grin, his eyes flashing with mischief. "I'd like to see you try. The Allfather clearly believes me to be a threat. Nothing you can do will change that". His words echoed in silence as the guards shifted uncomfortably, looking from one to the other as Loki starred them down. "Come on. The other prisoners are getting restless", one of them muttered, looking away from Loki, as they both quickly turned and nearly ran off down the corridor in the prison, and out of sight.

"They deserve to be executed". Loki didn't flinch at the other voice behind him; he knew exactly who the owner of it was. "They will, in time", he said quietly, slowly turning around to see her. Rebecca was sat bolt upright on the bed, her now raven black hair hanging loosely at her shoulders, her feet hanging over the edge of the bed. He had to stop himself from gasping in shock at her; she looked beautiful, perhaps too beautiful. He fought down the sudden urge inside him and gave her a little smile. "I hope that I did not wake you", he said softly, slowly walking back over towards her, his eyes locked on hers. "I heard you shouting. I thought the guards had come back in again". Loki sat down on the edge of the bed near to her as she shifted herself back a bit, making the space between them larger. A flicker of fear passed through Rebecca's eyes as Loki moved himself closer, as she realized she had no where else to move to. She dropped her eyes down into her lap, her fingers twitching, brushing against the chain on her manacles. "Please, don't", she whispered quietly. Loki frowned, unsure, but slid himself a little back to give her space. "Answer me this please Loki. One minute I'm looking into your eyes, the next I'm waking up in chains. What happened?". Her voice was very quiet and she refused to look up at him, her breathing getting quicker, her chest rising and falling.

"Don't you remember?", Loki asked curiously, his brow deepening, concerned. She shook her head uncertain, still not looking up to him. "It all seems too fragmented. None of it makes any sense. I don't know if I was dreaming it or if it happened or anything like that". Her voice trembled just as much as her hands as they began shaking. "Well tell me what you remember, and I will tell you the truth", Loki said calmly, placing his hand reassuringly on her shoulder. Instinctively, Rebecca flinched and tried to shrug him away, but she stopped herself. His touch was gentle and warm, not hard and aggressive as he had been in the past. Something had changed; did Loki actually care about her? Taking a deep breath, Rebecca looked up into Loki's deep green eyes, and told him everything. "I remember there was a woman, dressed in red, holding a knife. Then something happened, lots of noise and fighting before more blackness. Then I remember seeing these glowing red eyes staring right at me and I felt very cold in my neck, it passing through my whole body. Then I remember seeing you, and I ... I felt like I was stronger, inside. And you ... I remember seeing your eyes. And the fear inside them. Then I dunno, I guess I passed out again or something, as the next thing I know I heard you shouting, then I woke up".

Loki remained completely silent whilst Rebecca recollected her 'dream' to him, not wanting her to worry, but the look in her eye when she finished only made him feel more unsettled. She was terrified of all these visions and dreams that she was now remembering, not knowing if they were in fact fantasy or reality. He didn't know if telling her the truth would cause her any more distress, but Loki cared for her, and had sworn to tell her the truth. He didn't want to have to lie to her anymore, as there was no where for him to hide from the monster she had now become.

"Rebecca", Loki said softly, his hand taking hers, "All of what you have said happened". Immediately her eyes widened in shock, her body locking rigid in fear as her breathe became hitched in her throat. Loki then, as carefully as he could, began recollecting everything that had happened, and with great care, his hand gently squeezing hers in reassurance, began to tell her everything. "Firstly, the woman in the red dress. She was your mother, called Scarlett. She was accused of murdering several children who she taught, blaming her crime on Jotuns to protect her innocence. In your vision which you saw here, it was her bringing you to earth, and trying to kill you. Odin's army found her and she ran, leaving you behind". All whilst Loki explained everything to here, his eyes never left hers. He could see all the different thoughts and questions flashing through them in waves, but they would have to wait until he had finished, otherwise they could be sat here all day. "Secondly, the red eyes...". Loki hesitated, trailing off. Those eyes were his, when he had gone into his Jotun form. Rebecca had only briefly seen him in that form before, and she had seen the fear in her eyes. Maybe he shouldn't tell her? "I came around before you did, as that vision had knocked you clean out. Your necklace-", gesturing to it lying on the table, "-was around your neck, choking you. I tried to pull it off". Loki bit his lip, and looked down unsure, not knowing if what he was about to say next would terrify her or worse, set her off again.

This time it was Rebecca who offered him some comfort, gently squeezing his hand. "Loki, please. I need to know", she said softly, moving herself closer to him, so now they were sat side by side. He let out a long, deep sigh before turning back to face her, his mind set. "When I tried to pull off the necklace, it burnt me, forcing me to turn into my Jotun form. When I tried to remove it off you, you ... well, you woke up. Your eyes were black and your hands gripped my throat and you tried to kill me, saying that "It was yours", and it was only when I snapped the chain that you stopped. You fell unconscious again, as if nothing had ever happened. But you were different, like you were possessed or something. That's why your hands are burnt...". "But they're not". Loki stopped and looked down at her hands holding his, and gasped. She was right; they were normal, as if nothing had happened. "I don't understand ...", he muttered, turning her hands over in his, inspecting them. Her perfect pale skin was undamaged, but he could have sworn he hadn't healed them, unless ...

"What about everything else?", Rebecca interrupted, cutting off his trail of thought before he had chance to vocalize it. Still with his eyes looking at her perfect hands, he rattled off everything else. "The power you felt inside you is the magic running in your veins from your mother, and its very dark. The fear you saw in me was nothing. I was only worried that you might hurt yourself should you let it all out". Rebecca watched Loki as he struggled to form words, and it surprised her. For the first time, he was actually speechless. Of course, she only partly believed what he'd said, but it still left her with a lot of unanswered questions, some good, some bad. "So there's nothing wrong with me, apart from that I have magic in my blood?", Rebecca asked calmly after some thought. Loki just nodded, not wanting to look her in the eyes or say what was running through his mind. "So then there's no need for me to wear these?", she said, holding up the manacles on her hands, the chain swinging, clanging against the metal of the bed frame.

Loki sat completely still, just watching the chain swing, biting his lip. He knew the reason why he'd handcuffed Rebecca again; it was to stop her trying to kill him, but could he risk letting her out? Trapped in this cell for eternity, with the girl he loved, but also feared. "Loki?", Rebecca asked quietly, squeezing his hand. She could see the conflict in his eyes, every possible choice passing through them; if only she could read them and tell him everything would be okay. "Why won't you let me go?", she thought.

"I don't want to hurt you again".

Rebecca gasped in shock as Loki's voice echoed inside her head, as quiet as a whisper, but loud enough for her to hear every word. "How did you do that?!", she snapped quickly at him, pulling her hands out of his. "Do what?", he asked, looking at her worried. "Do that! You spoke inside my head", she replied. "I didn't do anything", Loki replied slowly, standing up and stepping away from her, watching her wide eyed. Rebecca didn't believe him, he must be lying. "Loki, you were talking inside my head. I heard you. You said you didn't want to hurt me". Loki's face became even more pale, trying to process it all.

"This is not possible. I haven't done anything whi-"

"There! You're inside my head again!", Rebecca shouted, pointing at him with her manacled hands. Loki froze and watched Rebecca as she stood up. "I can hear you inside my head, even though your lips aren't moving". She tried to advance towards him, but the chain stopped her getting close. "What is happening? Tell me", she demanded fiercely, almost stamping her foot in defiance. "I haven't done anything Rebecca, please believe me!", Loki almost shouted at her, backing away in fear

"Oh god, what have I done"

"SEE! You're talking again!", Rebecca shouted, jumping up, wanting to charge at him in anger. Why was he talking in her head? Why won't he stop!? She was watching him, standing fearfully in front of her, his hands trembling just as much as his wide green eyes watched her, confused. The cell remained in silence, and Loki bit his lip. He had an idea.

"Rebecca, c-can you hear me?"

"Yes of course I can hear you, stop being so stupi-", Rebecca snapped. Then she froze on the spot, mid sentence. It was as if a light switch had just turned on inside her head, and it all suddenly made sense. "D-Did I just ... read your mind?", she stammered, unable to quite believe what was passing out of her lips. A wave of relief passed over Loki, and he smiled. "Yes, yes you did", he said calmly, cautiously taking a step towards her. "I think that is just one of the abilities that you possess", he continued to say, grasping her hands in his. "I-I can do magic", she gasped, unable to believe it, looking deeply into his eyes. "Yes, you can. And I'm sure, with patience and practice, you can do other things as well", Loki chuckled, pleased for her. They both stood there, just holding each others hands, reflecting on what had happened, when the switch inside Rebecca's mind turned on; an idea.

"Unchain me"

The order was simple, and she said it clearly in her mind, looking Loki straight in the eyes. At first, she saw the relief inside them from before, hiding his deep thoughts, before they seemed to glaze over. His brow frowned a little, so she repeated the thought again, and felt herself change. It was if everything else in the room shifted out of focus, and she was only aware of Loki, his deep green eyes looking straight into hers, unaware that her own were beginning to turn black. Despite the blood beginning to pound inside her head, she kept her focus, willing herself on. Again, she repeated the order in her head, almost shouting it inside her tormented skull. That's when she felt the shift. It was almost as if she could feel the tingle of strings at her fingertips, to which she gently began to pull. Without breathing or breaking her eyes away from his, Rebecca repeated the order inside her head, this time, letting the words roll off her tongue to the air. "Loki, unchain me".

The God Of Mischief was helpless to do anything, as he wasn't even aware of what she was doing, as all he could see was Rebecca's beautiful eyes, looking deeply into his, right into his soul. His hands that had so delicately held hers shifted, and with a simple pull on the invisible strings inside Rebecca's mind, had let go, and shifted to hold onto one of the handcuffs. In a flick of her finger, Loki's hand snapped the handcuff clean off, making them both disappear in a flash of gold dust, now releasing her. He was her's, she realized, now seeing that she was free from the chains, and that Loki had done nothing to stop her. She had only just discovered her powers, so how on earth was this happening? Surely Loki would have been able to overpower her by now, fight back, or something! But Loki didn't do anything, or say anything. He just looked deeply into Rebecca's black eyes, completely under her spell.

It was now that the hunger for power inside her seemed to grow, only fueling her desire more. Curiosity got the better of her, and she allowed herself to enter into Loki's mind. She felt his pain, every hit, every blow, from the warm love of his mother to the cold betrayal of his father. She saw the young prince in his youth, playing with his brother, carefree and happy, and witnessed his world tumble down around him. She felt the coldness of his heart as he realized the truth of who he really was, and the burning fire of hatred he now felt. Pain. He was in so much pain. Although she was too lost inside Loki's mind to notice, but tears were rolling down her cheeks. Loki had only told her so much about his past, but now she was experiencing all of it, and it hurt her.

Through the darkness of pain in which Rebecca found herself becoming lost in, she saw a glimmer of light, warmth, inside the dark recess of Loki's mind. She felt herself becoming drawn to it, drawn in further and further until she came face to face with ... herself. In flashes of warmth, all of her encounters with Loki back on Midgard in her captivity flashed before her. She felt his pain lessen, his cold heart thaw. Then she felt the deep throbbing of his heartbeat increase with every second her innocent warm love filled him. Then came the most precious memory that linked both their minds together in a single moment ... the kiss. The kiss that still lingered on Rebecca's lips to this very day. The kiss of a God.

She slammed her lips onto his with a force that could start a fire. She forgave everything that he had done to her in the past in that moment. He had hurt her in ways she could never explain, but none of that mattered now, not now that she could see the broken, tortured soul he had tried so hard to hide from her. All her wanted was love, and she had refused him. Now, she was not going to hold back, never ever again. Almost snapping Loki out of his daze, his lips moved in sync with her's, biting down on her tender flesh, trailing down to her neck as her hands wrapped around his neck, pulling him backwards, down onto the bed. Although the softness of the bed absorbed most of the impact, she still found herself pinned underneath this hungry God, his soul and heart aching as deeply as Rebecca's yearned. The pounding in her head was becoming too much from her powers but she didn't care; she wanted Loki. Grasping his raven hair tightly in her fingers, she pulled his lips back onto hers, a growl escaping her lips as loudly as any lion. His hand grasped around the back of her neck, pulling her lips closer to him as his other hand wrapped around her waist, its fingers clawing at her back like a wild animal. The fire between them was growing out of control, arms and limps flying everywhere as they rolled around the bed, biting and kissing each other as if they would never live again. Rebecca clawed at his back as his kissed moved down her chest, his hands gripped around her waist as she struggled to breathe. His kiss was setting her skin on fire, her blood racing, her mind pounding. She couldn't't hold on any longer; she needed to let go. The pain in her mind from controlling him becoming to overwhelming, her vision blurring, she couldn't;t see. In one final push, she kissed his lips, before her conscious gave out, the connection broke, and she slipped into a lustful ecstasy state, her eyes closing gracefully, as both bodies fell limp, holding each other, out cold.
