55, SHIFTED
As Taehyung stood at the airport, the reality of leaving hit him hard. He turned to Jeongguk, who was trying to hold back tears. The scene felt surreal—like a moment frozen in time. Their last few hours together had been intense, filled with kisses and whispered promises.
Taehyung pulled Jeongguk into a tight hug. "God, I don't wanna leave," he said, his voice cracking.
Jeongguk buried his face in Taehyung's shoulder. "I know, me neither. I wish you didn't have to go."
They pulled back just enough to look at each other. Jeongguk cupped Taehyung's face, his thumbs brushing away the tears. "Promise me you'll come back soon."
"I promise," Taehyung said, his eyes shimmering with tears. "I'll be back before you know it. And we'll make up for all this time apart."
Their lips met again in a desperate, urgent kiss. It was like they were trying to make up for all the words they couldn't say, all the time they couldn't spend together. Jeongguk's hands roamed over Taehyung's back, pulling him closer, as if trying to merge their bodies and souls.
"I love you so much," Jeongguk murmured between kisses, his voice trembling.
Taehyung's lips curved into a sad smile as he replied, "I love you too. More than anything."
The announcement for Taehyung's flight came over the loudspeaker, and he had to pull away reluctantly. "I gotta go, Jeongguk. I don't wanna leave you like this, but... I have to."
Jeongguk nodded, tears streaming down his face. "I know. Just... remember I'm always here for you. No matter what."
Taehyung nodded, his own tears flowing freely now. He waved one last time, his heart aching with each step he took toward the security line. Jeongguk watched him go, feeling like his heart was being ripped out. The last thing Taehyung saw was Jeongguk's hand, waving through the crowd, a final, bittersweet gesture.
Once Taehyung was on the plane, he settled into his seat, clutching his phone tightly. The first thing he did was call Jeongguk. "Hey, Jeongguk. I'm on the plane. I miss you already."
"I miss you too," Jeongguk's voice came through, sounding a bit choked up. "It's so quiet here without you."
The next few months were filled with calls, texts, and late-night conversations. Taehyung had gotten an American SIM so they could stay connected. Despite the distance, they kept their connection alive.
One night, Taehyung called Jeongguk, his voice filled with longing. "Hey, baby. What are you up to?"
Jeongguk chuckled. "Just missing you, like always. I was just thinking about how you used to tease me."
Taehyung grinned. "Oh yeah? What were you thinking about?"
"You know, all those dirty things we used to do," Jeongguk said, his tone playful. "I keep imagining you here with me."
Taehyung's voice dropped to a sultry whisper. "I've been thinking about you too. Can't wait to be back and show you just how much I've missed you."
Their conversations were a mix of sweet and spicy, filled with affection and teasing. They'd talk about their day, share intimate thoughts, and remind each other of their love. No matter how busy they got, they always made time for each other, their bond growing stronger despite the miles between them.
"I'm counting down the days until I'm back with you," Taehyung said during one call. "Every day feels like a year without you."
Jeongguk's voice was tender. "I feel the same. But I know we'll get through this. Our love is stronger than any distance."
Their calls and texts were a lifeline, keeping them connected and reminding them that their love was worth every bit of the wait.
Erin burst into Taehyung's room, tears glistening in her eyes.
She was already at Taehyung's place, her eyes red-rimmed from crying. She rushed in as Taehyung was stuffing the last of his things into his suitcase. "I can't believe you're actually leaving, Tae. This is so surreal."
Taehyung looked up, trying to hold back his own tears. "I know, Erin. It feels like a dream. But I'm excited. It's time for this new chapter with Jeongguk."
Erin wiped her eyes and laughed softly. "I just can't believe you're going to surprise him like this. He has no idea you're moving for good?"
"Not a clue," Taehyung said with a grin. "I wanted it to be a total surprise. I even arranged everything with the airline and filled a spot in NYC. Jeongguk's gonna be over the moon."
As they hugged goodbye, Erin said, "Promise me you'll call me when you land. I need to hear all about it."
"Of course," Taehyung replied. "I'll miss you tons."
Erin stepped back and sniffed. "You better come back for a visit sometime. I'll miss you."
Just then, Jimin and Hwan walked in, looking somber but supportive. Jimin pulled Taehyung into a tight hug. "Man, it's gonna be weird not having you around. But I get it, you gotta follow your heart."
"Thanks, Jimin," Taehyung said, trying to hold it together. "I appreciate it. It's just a new beginning, you know?"
Hwan clapped Taehyung on the back. "Hey, don't forget us. And make sure Jeongguk treats you right."
"Of course," Taehyung said, smiling through his tears. "I'll make sure of it."
With a final wave, Taehyung walked through the airport gates, his heart pounding with excitement and nerves. Erin, Jimin, and Hwan watched him go, their emotions a mix of sadness and joy.
On the plane, Taehyung couldn't stop thinking about the surprise he had planned. He'd avoided Jeongguk's calls intentionally. He knew it would be tough, but seeing Jeongguk's face when he realized Taehyung was moving for good would be worth it.
The plane ride was filled with nostalgia. Six months ago, he was just starting this journey, and now he was on his way to a new life with Jeongguk. The car ride to the airport had him reflecting on how far they'd come.
He got out of the car, heart racing with anticipation. The thought of finally being reunited with Jeongguk, of making his surprise a reality, filled him with overwhelming joy. He was ready for this next chapter, ready to see that adorable bunny smile, and ready to share his life with the person he loved most.
Taehyung's heart pounded as he arrived at Jeongguk's apartment building. He could barely contain his excitement, knowing he was about to surprise Jeongguk in a way he'd never expected. With his suitcase in tow, he took the elevator up to Jeongguk's floor, his mind racing with anticipation.
When Taehyung finally reached Jeongguk's door, he hesitated for a moment, taking a deep breath. He knocked lightly, trying to keep his emotions in check. The door swung open, and there stood Jeongguk, looking disheveled and worn out, his eyes swollen from crying. His clothes were a mess, as if he hadn't bothered with them for days.
Taehyung's heart ached at the sight. "Jeongguk?" he said softly, almost afraid to believe his eyes.
Jeongguk's head snapped up, and he blinked in disbelief. "Taehyung?" His voice was thick with emotion. "What are you doing here?"
Taehyung smiled through his tears. "I'm here to stay. I moved to New York. For good."
Jeongguk's eyes widened, and he took a shaky step forward. "Are you serious? I thought you were..."
"Gone? No," Taehyung interrupted gently. "I'm here. I wanted to be with you."
Jeongguk's eyes filled with tears again, and he wiped at them angrily. "I missed you so much. I didn't know how to handle... I was so lost without you."
Taehyung reached out and took Jeongguk's hand, squeezing it reassuringly. "I know, and I missed you too. I wanted to be here with you, to start our life together."
Jeongguk pulled Taehyung into a tight embrace, his voice breaking as he whispered, "I can't believe this. You're really here."
"I am," Taehyung said, resting his head against Jeongguk's shoulder. "I'm not going anywhere."
They stayed locked in each other's arms for a long moment, the weight of their separation melting away. Finally, Jeongguk pulled back slightly, looking into Taehyung's eyes. "You don't know how much this means to me. I've been trying to hold it together, but it's been so hard."
Taehyung cupped Jeongguk's face in his hands, wiping away his tears with his thumbs. "I know, and I'm here now. We're going to make it work."
Jeongguk nodded, a small, hopeful smile forming on his lips. "I love you so much, Taehyung."
Taehyung smiled back, tears streaming down his face. "I love you too, Jeongguk."
They kissed gently at first, savoring the reunion, but the kiss quickly deepened as their passion and relief overflowed. When they finally pulled apart, they were breathless and flushed, their foreheads resting against each other.
"Let's get you settled," Jeongguk said, taking Taehyung's hand and leading him into the apartment.
Taehyung glanced around at the familiar surroundings, feeling a sense of homecoming. "I'm looking forward to this," he said. "To being here with you."
Jeongguk nodded, his expression softening with love. "Me too. We have so much to look forward to."
As they began unpacking Taehyung's suitcase together, their laughter and chatter filled the apartment, the joy of their reunion palpable. The emptiness that had been hanging over them for months seemed to vanish, replaced by the warmth and love of being together again.
"I love you forever and always."
