√chapter eighteen
Zainab's POV
A loud smashing sound brought me back to my senses from what I was doing. Or more appropriately; the cheesy wonderland I was in. Everything became hazy in front of my eyes. Shaiq pulled back from me and then disappeared to God knew where.
"The hell is wrong with everything these days?" I heard someone cussed near me.
"Gosh, stop this already. I am busy right now. I will call back once I will get a free time to listen to your blabbering, "the same voice again reverberated; this time I could hear a tinge of annoyance in it.
What was it? Where did Shaiq go? Where was I? Was the earlier one a dream? If it was, then, did my dream get shifted?
With a jerk, I fluttered open my eyes to find a sharp and poking brightness welcoming them. I again shut them at this sudden nuisance before widening them once again. In the front, near the dressing, I could see Shaiq crouched down on the floor, all dressed up in a dark grey three-piece suit. His right side of his head was bending on his same shoulder and with one hand, he was grabbing his phone near his ear. While with the other one, he was doing something on the ground.
"Okay fine, I will do what you will say, you..." He stopped abruptly as his eyes met mine and his jaw dropped. Literally dropped! And it felt like he suddenly forgot how to speak, "we then meet in the office, Mr. Ahmad, " after that he disconnected the call and thrust the phone in his pants pocket.
This was my time to get puzzled. He was talking rudely a while ago but as soon as he noticed me, he turned as ethical as he was talking to his mother. I lifted my head a little to find a broken bottle of perfume on the ground. Its cracked pieces were smashed here and there as the yellow liquid from inside was now all bussing the floor. Shaiq had perhaps made it fall and now he was baffled while rubbing his forehead, while looking at it as to what to do with It. This might have caused my sleep to disturb. I was still pondering upon this when suddenly I remembered something and it caused my cheeks to flush hard as someone had set them on fire.
My stupid dream!
I abruptly touched my lips with my finger.
How could I dream about such a thing? Where my mind had started to wander these days? Since Shaiq came back, I had started functioning weirdly. As if me drooling over his handsomeness in my awakened state wasn't enough, I began dreaming about him as well. That too, such an embarrassing thing. How I would face him after this?
I ran my palm through my face in a hurry to find beads of sweat here and there. Setting everything aside, how come I remember everything so vividly? And how in the world, I saw moonlight in my dream when it was already morning in reality? I could recall every word Shaiq said. It was like he was really sitting beside me. I could still feel his warm touch on my hand and cheek and I was more than sure about this. After he said that he couldn't help but act like this to me, everything became vague; even the kiss as well. What on earth is happening to be these days?
I again glanced at Shaiq who was still trying but failing to collect the broken pieces of the bottle since he was so diligent that these glass chunks wouldn't hurt him. But I couldn't look at him anymore since the feeling of uneasiness hit me. I came out of my thoughts when my phone again vibrated. I yawned lazily while picking it up.
'You know, today I was practicing as to how to confess to my crush but looks like, destiny is not on my side. She came right at that moment and heard everything which I was saying.'
I chuckled out loud at this. Poor Meekal! This guy never failed to make me laugh, just like Shaiq used to do before he wasn't a jerk. Sometimes, I wondered why they were so similar; from the sense of humor to the way of talking to many things, they were alike. Suddenly, I remembered something which caused me to get off the bed like electricity had been indicated in my body. I had an interview and here, I was still laying on my bed, thinking about useless things.
I quickly wore my slippers and was about to go to the washroom, when I stopped in my track seeing Shaiq's absence. Along with him, the mess he created on the floor was also long gone. When did he leave the room? I overlook everything as I rush inside to wash myself up.

After tying my hair in a high ponytail, I glanced at myself in the mirror. Getting satisfied with my final look, I quickly picked up my dupatta and smoothly placed it on my head as it covered my chest as well. I took my bag and hung it on my wrist while peeking on the watch clasping on it. It was half an hour remaining in my interview and if I needed to go by bus, then I had to leave right now as the office was quite away from here.
"Oh no!" I mumbled as I hit my forehead in frustration. The bus would take stays at its different stops and it would be impossible to reach there in such a small time. Why I didn't wake up on time? I rush out of the room; scrambling from here and there. When I reached down, I could see everyone sitting in the dining but I overlooked it. I would just scream out where I was going without stopping.
"Zainab, where are you going, in such a hurry?" Shaiq's Mom asked me at which I groaned in annoyance.
I put a halt to my moving steps and faced her with a smile, "Aunt, I have an interview for which I told you a few days ago. I am just going there."
"Oh, yeah I remember now, but at least have breakfast before going," she said while pointing towards the different types of items in front of her.
"No Aunt, I am sorry but I need to hurry because I have to reach there in half an hour," I declined while giving her a nervous smile.
"Half an hour? It's still so much time. Come on, first eat something. It's not good to go empty stomach like this," she tried to persuade me by wiggling her eyebrows.
"Yeah Bhabi, at least have the tea. I have made it with my own two beautiful hands, " Nofil turned towards me and winked playfully.
I sighed at this. They were all so concerned for me but I couldn't help even to do this mere thing to make them happy. I went towards Shaiq's Mom and placed my hands on her shoulders while bending down a little.
"Aunt, I really can't stay now. The route bus is just one and it will only come in ten minutes. I need to rush or else I will miss it," I whispered while squeezing her shoulders.
"Oh that's the thing," she moved her head to look at me, "why do you even need to go by bus? Shaiq will drop you. Right Shaiq?" She now peeked at her son for an assertion.
Shaiq who was too engrossed in eating the egg suddenly gazed up with a questionable stare and right after that, he started coughing.
"Me?" He gestured his index finger towards himself, in between his coughs.
"Of course. What's so unusual in it that you are so shocked? You are her husband and it's your responsibility to take care of her small necessities, "Aunt glared at him while she crossed her arms on her chest.
"Mom, I have to go to my office. And you know," he deliberately paused to wipe his lips with a handkerchief. But what I didn't get was how he showed his mother eyes, "it's my first day and I have a lot of things to take care of and I can't afford to get late."
"Why? Is your office more important than your wife? Why she would go in buses when you are here?"
"It's okay, I'll go by myself. I am already used to traveling by bus. It's not a new thing for me," I said the last line while directly looking at Shaiq who raised his brows in confusion.
Seeing them like this and also Shaiq continuously trying so hard to avoid me, I couldn't help but meddle. I could bear him doing such things when he was alone with me, but acting like a jerk in front of his own family, I couldn't tolerate that. And also, I could easily decipher his mom's scheme. When Shaiq was not here, she would ask Nofil to pick and drop me. But now, even though Nofil was here, she didn't bother her since she wanted me to get along with Shaiq.
"No way. You are going to drop her," she pointed towards Shaiq with an expressionless face.
Shaiq sighed before putting down his fork back in the plate, "fine, I'll do it," he stood up while looking at me, "I am waiting in the car. Do come quickly," with that, he went out taking long, swift steps.
Suddenly his mom's face chimed up like she won a grand prize. She smiled cheekily while grabbing my arm and making me sit on the chair beside her, "now eat comfortably. No need to hurry. You will get there before the actual time, I bet."

Seeing a big building in front of my eyes and then how the car's brake made a cracking sound on the road, brought me out of my thoughts. I blinked my eyes several times to get myself assured that I came to the right place. When I was convinced with that huge white building was SA corporation where I was going for an interview, I quickly ran my finger through my hair to settle them appropriately and then cover my head more with the dupatta.
I was about to open the door when something in me prevents me to do so. With a hesitant heart, I turned my body towards Shaiq and glanced at him with full attention. He was looking at the front while tapping his nails impatiently on the steering wheel. I smiled seeing it. One thing in him didn't change which was him been reckless yet careless enough to not dare to tell anyone to leave.
Our whole ride went silent as none of us uttered a single word. I knew he would do it since his behavior was the same as mine since the day he came back. If we both could travel back in time, we would get shocked at this since whenever we were used to be together, it would always be like havoc. Unless I wouldn't ask him something; there was no instant I could recall, when he started a conversation with me. And I was thinking about what happened in the morning.
Despite how much I tried and was still trying to shove him out of my mind, I was failing terribly. Since he had come back, without letting myself knew, he had completely taken control over my heart and mind. And now it was difficult for me to stop fantasizing about him. Perhaps the reason, I made him leave me five years ago was the same; I was afraid that his continuous presence around me would force my brain to get overwhelmed by my heart, I would fall for him more and more, and realistically, I would wish to be get loved by him. This thing would be against the way for his bright future.
His presence was again making me numb. Gone the days, when I just used to saw him as my friend. Now his mere nearness, made my whole body flutter. And I was sure that was the reason for my peculiar dream as well. I needed to stop my mind from wandering around. If he had gotten over me, then he had every right to spend his life happily, with the girl he loved. I wouldn't once again become any reason for his misery. I just wanted him to act with me like my best friend and I would go to any extent to bring my Shaiq back.
"Thank you, Shaiq for this," I let out while giving him full attention.
He stopped the finger movement he was making earlier and looked back at me with a raised brow. And as soon the sound of his nail ceased, I felt something melodious came to an end. He didn't say anything but just nod his head.
"Won't you say anything in the reply?" I asked with an uneasy chuckle.
"Why? Is there anything you yearned to hear from me?" He questioned back while shrugging his shoulders.
I was left a little taken aback at what he said. His most of the replies were always like this; vague and dry. But today how he asserted this became a reason for me to think back on it. How actually I wanted him to speak to me?
"Anyways, when you will get free, text me and I will come to pick you up. From tomorrow, I will ask our driver to pick and drop you," he announced after a while.
"Are you doing this because Aunt has ordered you?" I didn't know how it came out of my mouth. I bit my tongue in nervousness.
"What do you want it to be like?" He asked while turning towards me and placing his arm on the head of the seat behind me. I could easily decipher the sarcasm in it, "because in the end, we did believe only such things which we assume."
And yet again, he made me speechless by saying this. Not just speechless but to ponder on what he asked.
"I...I was just saying that..." I abruptly paused when his phone rang. He diverted his deep stare from me to his phone.
I rubbed my hand on my face in distress. Suddenly I felt someone had hit me hard; so hard that I couldn't even breathe.
"Shaiq, I am getting late. I am going," taking this opportunity, I mumbled as I harshly opened the car's door and get out of it. In all this while, I couldn't dare to look at him or his expressions.

As soon as I watched Shaiq's car went ahead, I took my lazy steps towards the building. It was the morning time and not many people were there so the whole area was not that crowded. I didn't even walk much when I felt footsteps behind me. My eyes widened in fear as the only possibility hit me like a swat. I roamed my eyes here and there without quitting walking. Something glistened at the corner of the road, I was striding which caught my attention.
"Hey, Zaini, wait!" I heard a loud voice behind me.
Zaini! Now I was sure as to who it was. Taking a deep breath, I stopped in my track and with that, the sound of that footsteps also came to a halt. I swiftly bend down and grabbed a medium-sized stone and hid it in my dupatta. I quickly turned around and without thinking twice, I threw the stone on the face of the person behind me.
"Ouch!" With a thud, I could see the mud on the ground fly up as that person fell with a groan.

Lol, so it was a dream but maybe just for Zainab. It might be real, but she thought it was her dream, who knows?😀
Since she found some parts of her dream too real to be a dream. We will get to know the real thing when Shaiq himself will tell her this or when we will get his POV.
Who do you think has come in the end and who also got punched by our Zaini?😂
