Not an update :/ Comic Recommendations
Hello everyone!
Sorry, This isn't a story update, but there were a few things that I wanted to share here. I won't be posting the next chapter for a while and thought you guys might like some webcomic recommendations while you wait. So here's a little list.
Edit: Updating this whenever I find something good.
Number One:
Killing Sta-
Icy Copper
Icy Copper is a realy cool fantasy story where humans can turn into goats, rams, bulls, cows, carabaos, etc... Their world is split in two. One part in a forever summer, the other in a winter. Copper can't shape-shift and gets stuck in the winter world. It also has an amazing art style with fun and imaginative characters.
Number two:
Glitch
Glitch is about a girl named April who dies and wakes up in a void, where she meets a stranger who claimes to be a deleted computer file who can grant 10 wishes.
Weird I know.
The story has a lot of twists and turns and has realy well-written characters who have you questioning their motivations every witch way, and amazing and horrific imagery. Just a warning, this story hasn't been updated since 2019, so do with that what you will.
Number Three:
Humor Me
Humor Me is about a girl named Charlie, who is struggling to keep her school scholarship, deal with bullies, work a job, and raise her little brother all the while being a beautiful sassy mess. This story is more character-driven than anything and is beautifully written.
It has an amazing almost 1960's Disney like style, which is so freaking cute. 🤩
Number Three:
Mias & Elle
Elle's Grandpa has just passed away and she comes to a cathedral to spread his ashes. Mias is a dark sorcerer from another dimension who is looking for someone with the help of his little bell. After a resistful fight, Mias takes Elle back to his world and they realize he's put the both of them in a whole mess of danger.
The dialogue and witty characters are amazing. And I love the way Jenny Clements (The creator) draws facial expressions. Everyone is so buzzing with life. And it might also be one of the funniest comics I've ever read. Highly recommend.
Number Five:
Forgotten Sons
Forgotten Sons has a large cast of characters and a complicated dark fantasy world. Jo and her brother Aaron lead a resistance of people to protect and reclaim their island which was conquered twenty years earlier. There's this other guy named Rakan who is a traitor to both sides and wants nothing to do with any of it, but too bad cause Jo be making friends with him.
The art in the comic is out of this world. Amazing character designs, colors, and the environment art makes me want to scream. Check it out!
Number Six:
Suihira: The City of Water
Suihira is a fantasy that takes place in a world that is almost all desert. Princess Wahida has prayed to Akia (the Goddes of water) for a passage to Suihira: The City of Water. When the goddess finally shows herself to Wahida and tells her she's worthy of Suihira, Wahida makes the hard decision to leave her family on a quest to find it. She joins two other travelers, all the while her family is trying everything in their power to find her and bring her home.
I realy like this story so far. Wahida is a likable protagonist with goals. The artwork is mesmerizing in its colors and design, and manages to make the world around our heroes seem vast, and make them feel small, and their journey dangerous.
Number Seven:
Colour Theory
Colour Theory is a romance that takes place in a radioactive wasteland. Margot lives a quiet life in a forbidden zone when one night an injured stranger named Punch falls in front of her truck. She nurses him back to health and finds out that he has more in common with him than she thought. Both Margot and Punch have traumatic pasts from before they knew each other, and help each other overcome them.
The art in this comic looks like it was drawn by hand meticulously with colored pencils, which gives it a warm storybook feel that you don't see that often. The world is also very interesting. You don't get to see that much of it from our characters' perspectives, but you get glimpses of it, like in Punches' past.
Number Eight:
The Little Trashmaid
You might have seen strips of this comic on Instagram, it's pretty popular. If you haven't seen it, it's a comedy comic about a cute little mermaid that lives in a grossly polluted ocean and befriends two boys on land. This is one of the funniest, saddest, and cutest things I've ever read. Highly recommend.
Number Nine:
Long Exposure
Long Exposer is about a nerd Named Jonas trying to get through his last year of high school. But everything goes down the toilet when his middle school bully, Mitch, transfers back to Sellwood and starts tormenting Jonas once again. The two get paired together for a science project which leads them to a government facility where they gain telecentric powers by accident.
I read through this in two days and don't know what to do with myself now. Surprised I liked this so much, seeing as it's a BL story which is usually not my thing, but the writing and art are to die for. Jonas and Mitch have such good chemistry it makes me want to squeal. I love the cute little nicknames he gives Joey, and how they both change each other for the better. Defiantly worth the read. 10/10
Number Ten:
Stick n Poke
Stick n Poke is a romance follows a young trans woman named Mal who moves out for the first time to take a job in LA being a social media manager for her favorite band. The lead guitarist of which, being her childhood crush.
This comic has a super cute art style, with bold colors and character designs. Mal is super relatable and I love the way she interacts with the other characters. It also has some realy wholesome and funny moments. Go check it out!
