The Hunt Begins

"My son is missing."

Roman looked around. Logan stood there, eyes narrowed. "Sorry, what?" The king asked awkwardly.

"My son. Fletcher." Logan glared. "My little boy is gone, Roman. Where is he?"

"I... don't know. Have you searched the city?"

"Of course I've searched the goddamn city!" Logan snapped suddenly. "I've searched everywhere! The bakery; the castle; the schools; the farms; the walls; the fields. He isn't anywhere!"

Roman felt a little chasm form in his stomach. "How long has he been gone?"

"I don't know... A couple of hours, maybe? All night?" Logan sighed, running a hand through his hair. "He's been strange for ages, coming home late, leaving early... Vanishing without a word... Tetchy and anxious... And I haven't seen him all day. I don't know what's happened..."

"Oh, Logan..." Roman stepped forwards and hugged his friend tightly. A tight, warm hug that his friend couldn't return. After a second or two, Roman stepped back. "Fletcher is going to be fine, alright? He's a good kid."

"He better be fine," Logan said, a single tear falling down his face. "Or else I'm going to plan a coup."

Roman smiled. "And that will be okay."

"Can we please get a patrol out looking for h-?"

"Roman!" Virgil's voice filled the hallway and the two Light Realm citizens turned around in surprise. Virgil was running to them, Remus behind him, and they both were pale. A look in Virgil's eyes was terrifying. Even chilling. Cold and deadly, despite fear and uncertainty on his face. "Roman!" He yelled again, as he reached his fiancé and friend.

"Virgil?" Roman said, in surprise. "What is it?"

"Dee- Deceit- Roman, please!"

Remus stepped forwards, a stare in his eyes and a look on his face that Roman hadn't seen before. It was hollow, empty and emotionless. He just stared at Roman with wide, blank eyes of no anger, sorrow or love. Like a robot. "My husband," He said, very softly, once in earshot. "They took him."

"What? Who took him? Who took who?"

"Someone's got Deceit," Virgil fretted. "Someone's got him. They took him, Roman."

"When?" Logan asked. "When did this happen?"

"Weeks ago," Remus breathed, shuddering a little. Roman now noticed the morning star in hand. "They took him weeks ago and took his place."

Virgil grabbed at Roman's shoulders. "It was after our engagement. He left to talk to you. That's when they got him."

Logans' eyes widened and Roman gaped. "But- who? Who's got him?"

"Someone with a death wish," Remus said, staring eyes focused on the wall.

"We don't know," Virgil replied. "But he's missing. He- He signed a document wrong. The imposter is getting the Grey Realm to send over weapons and he signed the approval document wrong."

Logan tilted his head. "How so? Wrong signature."

"No," Replied the prince.

"Right signature," Remus said, staring at the wall. "Wrong name."

The Light Realm citizens frowned but Roman caught on quick. "His real name," He breathed in shock. "That's what you mean?"

"His what?" Logan asked.

"Deceit's real name," Virgil answered. "We have two, remember? I am Anxiety and Virgil. He is Deceit and-"

"Janus," Remus said. "They took my Janus and I shall hurt them until they plead for death."

Roman hesitated, unsure how to respond. "Janus? His name is Janus?"

"You have to help me, Roman!" Virgil pleaded. "My brother is gone and I don't know where he is! Please, please, you have to help!"

"Of course I'll help, I- Virgil, look, Fletcher's gone missing too and I need to-"

"Prince Anxiety, I understand you're in distress," Logan interrupted. "But my son is missing too. We shall search for the both of them but calm yourself first."

Virgil looked at Logan as if the words weren't registering. "They've got Fletcher too?"

"It mightn't be the same person but yes. Fletcher is missing, whether by his own will or not, and I am going to find him."

Remus's grip on the morning star tightened. "I am going to hurt someone."

"Virge, please," Roman grabbed hold of Virgil's hands, getting him to look back at his fiancé. "You said about the Grey Realm. Might they know something?"

"Yes, they- Maybe, I don't know. Probably?" Virgil said. "I haven't visited them in a while. Do you think they know-"

"I will put nothing below a realm that took the arms of over seventy children," Logan tilted his head back with a glare. "I'm not going to be surprised if they have played a part in this."

For the second time in two years, the doors of Thomas's throne room were kicked down. The King looked up, eyes wide and guards jumped to attention. Remy winced. "We need to get tighter security on who waltzs in here..."

"Hi, bitch!" King Roman called, his rapier brandished near his feet but unbloody. "You're really a fucking genius, y'know."

Thomas's stomach dropped. "No... No, Roman, it's a misunderstanding. Please, let us explain!"

"You know," Virgil breathed venomously. "You know."

Remy's eyes widened behind his sunglasses. "This is- This is to do with Deceit, isn't it?"

"My husband, you fuckers!" Remus shouted, a derangedly blank look on his face. He walked past his group, with Logan close behind him, and hoisted his morning star in Remy's face. "My family, you absolute fuckers! How dare you!"

"It wasn't us!" Remy tried. "Please, we couldn't tell you!"

Thomas stood quickly. "We were blackmailed," He tried, trying to wave away the guards. "King Roman, I promise you this, a King to another. We were blackmailed. He said he'd turn your realms against us; drive us to extinction. We've had Emile on his way to the palace to tell you what happened but he can't travel fast."

"Who has him? Who has my brother?" Virgil demanded.

"His name was Skol." Roman dropped his rapier and Logan turned around in genuine surprise.

Roman blinked. "His name was what?"

"Skol," Thomas said. "Did... Do you know him?"

"He's an anti-unionist, from the Dark Realm," Logan said. "He's banned from entering the Light Realm but keeps coming back anyway. If he has Deceit, he's fully lost it."

"His own people?" Virgil began softly. Thomas's throne vanished in a puff of purple. "I am going to kill this Skol."

Remus didn't respond, turning on his heel and walking out of the throne room inexpressively. Remy pointed after him awkwardly. "That man," He said, "Is terrifying."

Patton wrapped his cardigan around his shoulders. He put on walking boots. He swung a backpack over his shoulder and took Logan's sword from their bedroom. He left his house and walked through Cabina City, not turning to look at those who greeted him or the children who pointed in awe.

He walked through the front gates, a rented pegasus in tow behind him. The lady lending them had been quick to bring him the fastest one in her stables and barely fussed when Patton said he'd pay her on his return. Something about a two-time interrealm hero makes people scared to argue back when  they have the wild look of adventure and revenge in their eyes.

Fletcher had kidnapped and he was going to find whatever sorry bastard took his son. He climbed onto the pegasus's back and sent her high into the air. Nothing was going to stop him. No one was getting in his way.

Patton flew steadily, eyes scanning the rolling fields below him. The pegasus flew far and fast, faster than Cloud and even Storm. She crossed land and land without stopping or slowing. "Fletcher!" Patton shouted.

His voice was whipped up by the wind but he could still hear it. "Fletcher!" He shouted again and sent the pegasus swooping lower. Then he saw movement at the Realm border. Fletcher. Fletcher running into the Dark Realm, stumbling and crying. He was alone.

"Fletcher!" Patton shrieked and the pegasus dived. He went for the ground, wings flapping to got more speed and the landing, despite being jerking and painful, didn't stop Patton dismounting instantly and running into the forest. "Fletcher?" He called looking around. No one replied. No one was there.

Patton pushed aside bushes and branches. "Fletcher, please!" He cried out. "Hate me by all means but please! Where are you?"

He had no response for there was no one to respond. No one was at the border anymore.

"Fletcher, please," Patton whispered. His knees caved and he fell onto the forest floor. "Fletcher," He whimpered once more, and then he began to cry.

Shut up, this didn't take twelve centuries to update-
