Who is BTS?

Before we start, I first want to tell you what BTS is. If you are on any social media platforms, there is no way you haven't heard of them. BTS, also known as Bangtansonyeondan (Bulletproof Boy Scouts), is a South Korean Boy band formed in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment. The band consists of seven members;

What is ARMY?

ARMY stands for Adorable Representative of MC Youth. It is the BTS fandom name.

What Does Being an ARMY mean to us?

Seriously, if you talk about my life, it revolves around the 7 members of BTS, 24/7. Good days, bad days just thinking about something funny they said makes me happy. This may sound weird from someone my age, but I feel depressed sometimes. I just want to run away from my life and go somewhere peaceful when it happens. At times like that, their songs are my only friends. Years back I was a normal shy kid who didn't have many friends to talk with or share my thoughts or feelings. No one would believe me if I said I was shy back then. I used to sit quietly when the teacher asked a question. I was afraid if I said something wrong, others would make fun of me. So I thought it was better not to say anything.

One day I heard a whistle, a very unfamiliar one. So I followed the voice where and ended up seeing my sister listening to a K-pop music video called DNA by BTS. I watched it with her and my first reaction wasn't so good. "He looks like a girl,'' I said, pointing towards a guy with a short height and light brown hair on the screen. (I am sorry I said that, Jimin. Please forgive me for that Jimin, I love you as much as anyone)

What was the first song of BTS they ever heard and what was your reaction?

 My sister who had joined the fandom a week ago was angry at me. I pointed to her bias (favourite) Jimin. I was surprised how deeply attached my sister was to a group of seven Korean boys. She said, "Their music helped me forget all my pain and I just want to listen to them.'' After that day, I started to listen to them. Reading their memes, watching bangtanbombs, a series of short videos featuring the seven members of BTS having fun in their daily lives, and RUN BTS, a reality show on VLive. Somehow, it made me more confident. When I saw them performing on stage in front of thousands of people confidently, I thought, If they can do it, why not me? I was not the same person anymore.

What is one thing which made you attracted to BTS for the first time?

Who's your bias? Mine is Namjoon but I stan all seven equally.

In the first few months of being in the fandom, the only ARMY I knew was my sister and a friend of hers. But one day on my way home I saw a girl on my bus with the BTS logo drawn on her hand. Then, I found someone else with the same interest on this lonely planet. The next day I went to her and asked her who was her bias? We started to sit together on the bus and talked about BTS and other K-pop bands. If I ever talked this much to anyone else about it they would get irritated or say something negative. It feels good to find someone who loves the same thing as you. We have been friends since then and she is one of my closest friends. We shared another thing in common, our love for books. She told me about Wattpad, and I've been here since then.

I didn't get along with people in different grades, but it is different now. We even write a BTS fanfiction together called ''A Flower Like." After joining Wattpad I found many other people with the same interest as mine. Now when I think about the hardships the boys have gone through to achieve something so big, it really inspires me and makes me think I can achieve my goals one day. Now, I never feel alone because I know the fandom I am in is always with me. BTS and ARMY are with me.

Some people think we like them only because of their good looks or visuals, but that's not the only thing.

Do you have any real-life friends who are army or any of your family members? I myself have got some army friends and my sis. Even my mom is a fan of BTS and supports my fangirling!

We love them because of their fun personas, their dance skills, the efforts they put in to create music, meaningful lyrics, the fact that they always stay humble after achieving so much, and last but not the least their love for ARMY. They are as dedicated to music and us as much as we are. We love them because they inspire us. They motivate us.

Many of us, like me, have never met them in person but it feels like we've known them for years because they are so open to us.

This fandom and BTS mean the world to me.

I want to thanks BTS and ARMY for teaching me to be myself.
