Veronica's P.O.V.

I woke up the next morning to my phone ringing. I groaned and picked it up.

"Hello?" I asked sleepily.

"Roni! Are you up?" I heard Addison's voice.

"My lazy ass hasn't gotten up yet. What's up?" I asked.

"Dude, it's 8:30! Today is the debate for president and it starts in 45 minutes!" Addison explained.

My eyes shot open and I got out of bed. "I'm on my way."

I hung up and wen to the bathroom. I did my morning routine and changed into my cheer outfit. I decided to put my hair in a high ponytail with two strands hanging off.

Grabbing my backpack and pom-poms, I bolted out of the door, noticing my parents weren't here. Must've been working already.

I decided to grab a banana and bottle of apple juice before leaving the house and locking it.

I went to my motorcycle and turned it on. Well, tried.

"Damn it." I cursed as I realized the engine wasn't working.

I groaned as I dialed the only person I knew could take me.

After a couple minutes, I saw her car pull up. I looked at my phone and realized I had 20 minutes until the debate started.

I got in the car and smiled at Claire, who smiled at me back.

"Good morning, angel." she told me.

"Morning, Claire." I replied.

We drove off to get to the school.

"So, woke up late?" she asked.

"Yeah. I don't know why I missed my alarm." I explained.

"By the way, Sadie has been telling me that you have a guy now. Is it true?" she asked.

I chuckled. "His name is Wyatt and we aren't dating. I have feelings for him, though. We've been talking and hanging out all summer. He makes me feel comfortable and allows me to be myself. I feel some kind of connection to him that I can't describe."

Claire smiled as she placed a hand over mine. "Well, if you feel like he's the one, go for it."

"I just think I finally found someone who treats me right. He didn't reject me or treat me like trash like my ex did. He's different and I plan on introducing him to my parents soon." I told her.

The white-haired woman smiled as we got to the school. "Do what you got to do."

She stopped the car and I smiled. We told each other bye before I literally ran to the auditorium.

I searched for my friends, hoping I wasn't late.

"Veronica!" I heard Addison's voice.

I turned and saw her and the girls waiting for me. I ran to them, trying to catch my breath.

"Sorry I'm late." I said.

I panted. Even though I had good cardio, I wasn't even warmed up or anything.

"It's fine, boo. We have 10 minutes left until it starts. Here." Bree told me as she gave me a bottle of water.

I drank it, trying to catch my breath as Sadie rubbed my back.

"You good?" Addison asked me, looking concerned.

I nodded and gave her a thumbs-up as I got up and began cheering with the team. I stood in between Sadie and Addi.

After the principal gave her cringey speech and Bucky basking in the spotlight, Zed ended up landing and announcing he was running for president.

I was happy for him! Finally, someone who isn't a spoiled brat like Bucky!

Of course, Bucky protested.

"Anyone can run for president, Bucky!" Addison told him.

"Whoo! Go Zed!" I cheered as the rest of the team followed.

I tuned out everything else, because I had a feeling I was being watched.

Zed began talking. "As your president, I will make Seabrook a place that embraces both zombies and-"

"Werewolves?!" Bree exclaimed.

"Um, no. Why would we want..Werewolves!" Zed shouted.

The doors opened and the entire pack of werewolves bursted in. Everybody screamed and ran for safety and I ended up in front of Addison, protecting her. Sadie stood beside me and grabbed my arm.

"There she is!" one of them pointed out as they made a run towards me and Addison.

"Football team! Defense! Z-24! Right!" Zed commanded the football team.

The football team all went into a defensive mode in front of Addison, Sadie, and myself.

"Where's the moonstone, white hair?" the alpha asked.

"I think you've got the wrong person!" Addison replied.

I scanned through the wolves and my eyes locked on the male werewolf next to the alpha. His eyes widened and I gasped, realizing who it was.

Wyatt.

He's a werewolf? Why didn't he tell me?

"Our razor-sharp claws will gut 'em and splatter their blood!" the werewolf with space buns said making everyone gasp.

She turned to the alpha. "Too much?"

"Wolves! On my command!" the alpha ordered as her eyes and necklace glowed. The wolves growled and snarled, making Addison clutch onto my arm.

I couldn't help but feel my heart break. All this time, I was sharing all my secrets and stuff with someone who really wasn't the person I thought they were. I caught feelings for a werewolf in sheep's clothing, basically.

Was he just using me?

I saw him whisper something to the alpha and she seemed to agree.

"Wolves, stand down." she commanded.

All the werewolves' eyes went back to normal and their necklaces stopped glowing.

"Sorry. We werewolves so admire your town and we just came here to...join your school." the alpha explained with a forced smile.

"What? They can't join our school!" Bucky argued.

"Technically, the Forbidden Forest is within the school district." Coach reminded him.

"So, welcome to Seabrook!" Addison said.

I looked at her as she pushed her way past me and Sadie, waving slightly.

As everybody began leaving, I looked and saw Wyatt standing with the alpha and the other girl.

He looked at me and I saw guilt in his eyes.

'Veronica'. he mouthed.

I shook my head as I got my bag and turned around.  Why did he lie to me?

"Veronica." he called out.

I sighed as I turned around and met him face-to-face.

"Let me explain." he said.

"You didn't tell me you were a werewolf." I told him.

"You didn't ask." he replied.

Wyatt tried to take a step forward, but I stopped him. "How was I suppose to ask if you kept it a secret?"

"Roni, my pack won't hurt you. I won't hurt you. I could never do that."

"How could you not tell me before? I would've accepted you anyway, but I had to find out you were a wolf after a couple of them seemingly tried to kill me and my best friend. I would have been okay with it before. How am I supposed to believe you now? Was everything between us a lie?" I asked.

He shook his head. "No, no, no. None of this has ever been a lie. You and me. I would never use you for anything. Everything you and I have is all true."

I sighed as my thoughts and hearts were fighting each other whether to forgive him or just walk away. Only one managed to win.

I turned around before he called my name.

"I just need to be alone right now." I reminded him.

Wyatt nodded before he was joined by the alpha and the pack. I walked away as I fought to keep a straight face.

"Veronica?" I heard Sadie and Zed ask as they were with Addison.

I ignored her and kept walking.

"Veronica, wait!" Addison called out.

Zed looked up and his eyed widened. "Roni, what's wrong? Roni!"

I got to the door and turned back and saw Wyatt still staring at me before exiting the auditorium.

What was it with people keeping secrets from me? My family. My best friend. Now, the guy I have feelings for and have possibly fallen in love with.

I guess I would never know.

If only they all knew the pain it was causing me, not matter how hard I tried to ignore it.
