Chapter 1: Start of Summer
Veronica's P.O.V.
I lay in my bed, groaning at the feeling of my upset stomach. Cheer camp was in two days and I had to take a rain check because I was feeling sick.
Stomach ache, headache, and throbbing nose. Great.
My parents weren't even home because of work and my brother was at a friend's house.
I heard my phone ring and I turned, seeing that it was Addison. I answered it and put the phone to my ear.
"Hey, Adi." I told her.
"Hey, Roni! Cheer camp is this Friday. Are you packed yet?" she asked.
I sniffled as I grabbed a tissue and blew my nose. "I can't make it. I'm sick."
"Oh no! Okay, I understand. Hope you feel better." she replied.
"Go crush it, hon." I told her.
"I will for you, Roni. I gotta go now. Feel better! Love you!"
"Thanks, Addison. Love you too."
I hung up and then covered myself with the blankets from head to toe.
I heard my door open and the blankets get pulled off me. Only one person has a spare key to my house. I groaned as I turned.
"Well, looks like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed." she said.
"Hahaha, very funny, Sadie." I replied as I pulled the blankets again.
"Chill out, Vero. I got what you need." she said, emptying a bag full of medicines I would need.
"Thanks. I just feel like absolute crap." I told her.
"Well, I'm gonna be here until your parents get home." she told me.
She gave me the medicines and right doses before I slowly felt the affects kicking in.
Sadie and I are the same age, but she acts like an older sister to me. It's almost like she's my protector because any time I was in danger, she was always there. Even when we were kids, she always had my back. Her bracelet matches mine, but it's a violet color.
"Just get some rest." she told me as she got a cloth from the bowl beside my bed and placed it on my forehead.

*The Following Week*
"Do I have to go?" I asked as I sat on my couch, enjoying my cup of coffee and watching T.V.
"Yes. You have to get out. You're better already anyway." Sadie replied.
"She's right, honey. Go out with your friends." my mother, Maria told me from the kitchen.
"You have to do something, sweetheart. It's summer." my dad, Jonathan, added.
"I called up Eliza and you're coming." Sadie said.
She grabbed my feet and dragged me off the couch before I groaned. "Okay! I'm going!"
I was already in some shorts and a long sleeve, so I just had to get my bag.
Sadie and I headed outside and I felt the sweet smell of the breeze fill my nose and for once, I enjoyed it.
"Finally!" I said as I went outside for the first time in a week since I was already recovered.
"Feels good, doesn't it?" Sadie asked as we began walking.
We walked a couple miles into town, since the both of us were going to go have a girl's day out with Eliza.
"She's meeting us there, right?" I asked.
"Yeah. She's gonna be at the electronic store." Sadie replied.
After almost 15 minutes of walking, from my house to town, we ended up finding the electronic store and seeing Eliza in there.
"Hey, Eliza!" I called out.
She looked up from a record player and smiled as she saw us. "Hi, girls."
She hugged me and Sadie before we began looking around in the store.
I went to the music section and saw a pair of headphones that seemed cool. They were purple with some lightning designs on it.
I grabbed them and turned before I felt myself bump into somebody.
"Oh! Sorry about that." the person said.
"Nah, it's fine." I looked up and saw the person I had bumped into.
(A/N: Pretend he has the white patch in his hair already in the pic)
"Hi. I'm Veronica." I greeted him.
"Pretty name. I'm Wyatt." he replied.
"Nice to meet you." I said as we shook hands.
"So, what brings you here?" he asked.
"Girl's day out." I replied.
"Sounds fun." he replied.
"It's not like I had a choice." I told him with a chuckle.
"Ouch." he replied with a laugh.
I looked and saw the girls at the cashier, already paying.
"I gotta go. It was nice meeting you, Wyatt."
"You too, Veronica. Hope we meet again sometime." he explained.
I smiled and nodded before walking off to the girls and I paid for my headphones before we ended up outside.
Let's just say that two best friends who happen to be nosy at times bombed me with over a million questions about Wyatt.
Yeah, I ain't going to talk about that.

*Three Days Later*
My family and I were at Sadie's house for a dinner with her and her mother, Claire.
Claire was like a second mother to me because she was an old friend of my father's. Apparently, she and my mom were best friends in high school.
Claire was very sweet, kind, and gentle to everybody. Whenever my parents were busy, she took care of me as her own. One time when I was smaller, they had to go out of town for a month or so, so Claire took me and my brother in.
She always looked out for me as her own and I just loved her like my family.
I was helping Sadie and our moms cook. My father was with my brother, Ethan, helping him with some homework.
"Oh shoot! I forgot the some of the ingredients!" Claire said.
"Relax. I'll go and get them very quick." I reassured her.
"Want me to come with you?" Sadie asked.
I shook my head . "No, it's okay. I'll be back in about 10 minutes or so."
I grabbed my jacket and got out of the house before walking to the grocery store in town.
I went in and got what I needed before I heard my name being called.
"Veronica."
I turned and saw him there in one of the aisles next to me. This is the second time this week!
"Hey, Wyatt." I said.
"What're you up to?" he asked.
"Getting some last-minute stuff." I answered.
I began walking to the cashier with him beside me.
After paying, I went outside and he followed me.
"So, you go to Seabrook?" Wyatt asked.
"Yeah. Do you?" I asked.
"Uh....not exactly. It's complicated." he answered.
I looked and saw Sadie pull up on her motorcycle.
"Oh, boy." I said.
"Who's that?" Wyatt asked.
"My best friend." I replied.
"Overprotective much? I noticed that in the electronic store." he explained.
"Pretty much." I replied.
Sadie took off her helmet and looked at me.
"Let's go, Veronica. Your parents are getting a bit worried." she explained.
"I've only been gone for 15 minutes." I replied.
"Come on. It's supposed to rain any minute now and you're not getting sick again." Sadie said, tossing me a helmet.
"Sorry, Wyatt. I have to go. See you soon." I told him.
"It's fine. Here." he reassured me as he handed me a slip of paper.
I looked down and opened it, seeing his number on there.
What?
When I looked up, he was gone and all I could hear was Sadie's motorcycle waiting.
I put on the helmet and got on the back of the motorcycle before hanging on.
"Same guy?" she asked.
"Yep. Please don't ask questions." I begged.
She groaned before revving the handle. "Just tonight."
"Whatever."
"Love you too." She replied as she sped off.
I was looking forward to seeing Wyatt again.
