Chapter Twelve: Forever Shadowed
........
I rolled my eyes as Damien paced from one end of the room to another, muttering to himself. The covers of the bed I sat on were tossed and crumpled, we were having so much fun till one of his men came to give a report.
"Damien..."
I had just barely dodged the vase that came straight for my head, it shattered as it came into contact with the large headboard behind me. I could feel that some of the pieces had made their mark against my bare back.
"Do you know what your actions could have caused me!"
"What I did just goes to show that it worked!"
"And what if Sapphire had been killed?"
My eyes narrowed as he spoke her name, how dare he raise his voice at me. If it were not for me, he would not be even standing here today.
"So that is why you are angry... you still care for her even though she hates you."
I saw he jaw clench and smiled, I got up from the bed and started to circle him, placing my arms around his shoulders and my lips against his ear.
"You want her even though she would rather you die, she hates every fiber of you being, Damien. Who knows what she has been up to with that new Alpha of hers, maybe she has already..."
My words were cut short as Damien spun around, grabbing my throat in his hands, eyes filled with rage.
"Go ahead, do it. You know exactly what would happen if you do, care to gamble with that?"
He growled as he released my throat, I kept my face blank as I tried to inhale as deeply as I could.
"Is there anything else you have so conveniently 'forgotten' to tell me?"
"I have stationed two people there to help with the damage control, but one is incapacitated at the moment."
"You are playing a very dangerous game here, you should try not to step on so many toes."
I turn to pick up my clothes, struggling to keep my claws from extending as he lectured me. I grabbed my clothes before walking towards the door of his bedroom, not caring that my body was almost bare. I placed my hand on the doorframe before turning to face Damien.
"Don't forget what happened to the people who stepped on mine, Damien. Keep yourself in check before you become the next one."
I slammed the door to my room shut before throwing the side table at the wall. How dare he...after everything I have done for him. I created the best weapon we had against the Lycans, without me there would be no way he would survive a fight against Xander. I was the one who stationed the two of them there so that everything would work smoothly, but yet Sapphire was the big picture again.
I picked a vase to throw when someone knocked my door. I closed my eyes as I took a deep breath, placing the vase carefully back onto the table. Pulling a shirt over my head as I walked to the door.
"Come in."
My face remained blank as one of Damien's men walked in.
"Say your piece and leave."
"What are your orders with the two left as Shadow Mountain? Sapphire is starting to get suspicious and one of them cannot defend herself should she act on her suspicion."
"Leave them there."
"But..."
"Have I not made myself clear? They have served their purpose and have failed. It is their fault that they are left at Shadow Mountain."
"I shall inform Alpha Damien of your decision..."
"Wait."
I walked up to him slowly, placing my body as close to his as possible, my sliding up his chest to his shoulders.
"Why don't we keep this between you and me, I promise if you do what I order the rewards... will be great.
He contemplated my words, hands sliding up and down for a while before nodding, sometimes men were just too easy to persuade. He left the but left the door open for someone else to enter. Oh great... it's her.
"Going after the guards now? That is just low... even for you."
"At least men want me, Karen. The same could not be said about you of course."
Her mouth opened and closed like a fish as she tried to think about something to say that would hurt me.
"A little birdie told me that someone has lost favour with the Alpha."
"A pot should not call a kettle black, Karen. The last I heard you were not that high in his favour."
She bared her teeth at me before her lips formed a smile.
"Of course. The both of us are nothing compared to Sapphire Nicola Nightshade, the flower of the Blackwater Pack."
My fist clenched as she started to laugh, the scars across her face twisting making her face even uglier than I already was.
"You told me that I was nothing compared to you but remember, you are nothing compared to her... nothing. You should do well to remember that."
Her laugh still rang in my head as she left my room, narrowly missing the vase thrown against the door she closed behind her, the clattering sound of the pieces hitting the floor barely able to drown out her laughter.
I could care less about what Damien said about bringing Sapphire to him alive, she will die, and it will be at my hands.
