Chapter Six: Viper among Roses

.........

I snarled as I took in the main hall of the Black Blood Pack, anger radiated off me in waves as I walked closer to the large oaken doors. Pack members had rushed to stop me the moment I crossed the boundary line but stood still as they saw my face. The sound of leaves crunching under my boot made me wish that it was Damien's head below my foot, I had given him everything on a silver platter and yet he failed. The only thing he had to do was kill Sapphire Nicola Nightshade.

The large doors crashed against the walls as I pushed them open with as much force as I could. Gasps filled the air as I made my presence known, it seemed that I had interrupted a meeting. Pack members lined the wall, faces frozen in shock. I smirked as continued to walk towards their Alpha, who sat on top of his so-called 'throne', they parted for me like the red sea and avoided my gaze as though I was a ghost.

"Well, I never thought I would see you anytime soon." A scoff left my throat as I took his appearance in. The last time I saw him, he looked like a king and now, he looked as though he had had the life drained out of him. But I couldn't blame him, it was what Sapphire does, she casts her spell causing people to do whatever they can for her before draining the life out of them.

"How are you here?" My lips curled in disgust as I looked over at the female who hung on to Damien. Her face was marred with scars but that did not seem to deter her from squeezing into a tiny dress and draping herself on Damien like a common article of clothing.

"The adults are talking, I did not come all the way here to be asked questions by a miserable disgrace of a wolf." I watched as she jerked back at the last few words, she turned her head to face away from me but I had already seen the tears starting to flow. Weak.

"That's right. I heard all about how you got defeated by Sapphire Nightshade even though you had the advantage." She turned her head even further away from me but a deep laugh caused me to turn my attention back to Damien.

"Something tells me you are not here to fight for Sapphire's life." The corner of my lip curled into a smile as he said those words. Sapphire's life was the last thing I would ever beg for.

"You are right. I am not here to beg for Sapphire's life but rather, I am here to take it. Before you get up and start growling you will listen to what I have to say. Since I know how much you want her, how much you need her and so on, I will help you catch her." I smirked as I watched him lean forward. Hook, line, and sinker.

"But I have one condition. You will allow me to break her back, this would benefit both me and you as I get my revenge while you get a wolf who is too powerless to fight against you ever again." Men were so easy to coerce into doing your bidding. I looked at him with raised eyebrows and he responded with a nod. A smile made its way onto my face, everything was going to according to plan. All those years of her being the one, of her being the people's favourite, of her being the special one. It was all going to end here.

I sighed with contentment as I stretched my body against the silk sheets. I smile made its way to my face as I felt the warmth of the sun kiss my skin. I crawled out of the bed before walking over to the adjoining bath and turning the knob, allowing steam to fill the room. As I waited for the tub to fill I walked around the room that Damien had given me for my stay as we thought of ways to attack the Shadow Mountain pack. It was beautiful, expensive furniture and paintings decorated the room, it made me scoff that Sapphire could complain and run away from a life like this. If she could just suck it up then she would have lived in the lap of luxury with a handsome mate to boot.

I walked back to the tub before dropping my robe and allowing myself to sink into the warm water. A small groan left my mouth as I felt my muscles relax, I had been busy planning the attack as well as training with Damien's pack and if I was not doing that I was at the Shadow Mountain pack to see what Xander and Sapphire were planning.

I had barely begun to close my eyes and relax before the door to my room burst open, slamming again the tapestry adorned walls. I remained in the tub as an unfortunately familiar face came into view.

"What do you want, Karen?" I didn't bother getting out of my tub as she walked closer to me.

"What is your game here? You come here into my home from who knows where and decided to lord over the place." I watched in silence as she swiped at the tray of perfumes and soaps causing them to crash to the floor, their sickeningly sweet scent wafted through the air between us.

I placed my hands on either side of the tub before pushing myself up into a standing position, not bothering to cover myself up as I walked in front of her.

"Why so defensive? Is it because you finally realise that you are not the apple of Damien's eye anymore? Scared that all those nights where I was planning the attack with Damien weren't just planning?" I began to circle her as I wore my robe.

"Let me answer that burning question for you. We have spent those nights during more things than just planning. I still remember how my name fell from his lips as he told me he wanted me." I scoffed as I grabbed the hand that she tried to strike me with.

"I mean are you actually surprised? Look at me and then look at you, see the difference? I am what Damien wants. Strong, beautiful and powerful. That is why he chased after Sapphire. Look at you, the tight clothes and heavy make-up don't hide the fact that you are nothing but a weak human." I watched as she pitifully tried to pull her hand from my grip.

"You are nothing compared to me, Karen. Remember that. You are nothing but a scared insecure little brat who was nothing before she fell into Damien's bed, what am I saying? You are nothing even now." I released my grip on her hand and watched as ran out of my room. Guess the truth does hurt, pathetic.

I smiled as I walked back to my bed. I looked over at the plant at my bedside before lovingly stroking its beautiful drooping purplish-red petals before picking up the glass vial next to it. It casted a reddish glow against the dark polished floor as sunlight passed through it. I watched as the liquid inside flowed back and forth in the vial as I swirled it.

"No one believed me when I told them it worked, well, their loss." I smiled as I placed it back where it was as I looked over the map of the Shadow Mountain pack that I had drawn up over my visits there. My finger trailed down the various pathways before landing on the Main Hall, which was circled in red.

Sapphire Nicola Nightshade, now it is your turn to suffer.
