(Slight spoilers for Gravity Falls)

So at this point we have learned that before it was the Mystery Shack, it was Ford's house. But there's something wrong about that. What might you ask? Good question, you.

We have known since the very first episode that Stanley gets into the basement through the vending machine. But Ford had to get to the basement too, of course, to build the portal. But why would Ford have a vending machine in his house? Sure, it's possible that there was another way to get to the basement. But how would the vending machine get in the house? Maybe someone built it. But who would build it? Stan would know not to say anything about the portal, so there's no one who he could tell to build it. Stan could not have built the vending machine himself, the balloon from "The Love God" is evidence enough. While he did not actually make the balloon, he drew the blueprints and encouraged Soos to add "more kerosene." So how did the vending machine show up? The world may never know.
