042. thanksgiving
The plan was to have dinner with Indigo's family, and after meeting Papa Rivera, Tom wasn't particularly looking forward to it
He was practically scarred for life after what he went through. That man was scary, and he scared the shit out of Tom.
They drove to Indigo's childhood home in Brooklyn, with Diego in the backseat. It was just going to be the four of them, which was completely okay with Tom.
Indigo finally got to drive for once, mainly because Tom has no idea where the hell he's going. "Are we there yet?"
She grunted. "Diego, I won't hesitate to crash this car so NONE of us will get an amazing meal made by papa."
"Oh, your dad is making dinner?" Tom asked. Indigo nodded. "Always."
Tom awkwardly chuckled. Let's hope he doesn't try to poison me.
"Tom, our papa makes the best homemade stuffing. If it was crack, I'd be a fucking addict." Diego said, which was definitely a weird description for stuffing.
"I've never had stuffing, or celebrated thanksgiving."
Diego felt a little stupid. "Oh yeah! I forgot."
"Okay, we're here!"

"Papa!" Indigo called out, then her father emerged from the kitchen, wearing an apron.
"Welcome home!" Rafael said. He hugged Indigo and Diego, and when he approached Tom, he froze.
"Should I like give a hug-"
"Tom, hug him!" Indigo whisper yelled.
Tom hugged Rafael, also known as Papa Rivera, and felt more welcomed compared to when they first met.
"Dinner should be ready in a hour. Go watch tv or something. And Indigo before you ask, yes, you can set up the table."
"Yay!" Indigo cheered. Tom had never someone so excited to set up the table in his entire life. No wonder why his mother loves her.
"Indie, why don't I help?" Tom offered. "Fine by me!"
Tom followed Indigo into the dining room. "Can you get plates and utensils? I have to put the tablecloth on the table."
"Uh, okay."
Rafael sensed Tom entering the kitchen. "I see the way you look at her."
"Huh?"
"You heard me." Rafael sassed in response.
Tom was confused. "Okay... go on, I guess?"
"You seem like a good kid, and I can tell what you two have is love. I know I was coming off as scary at first, but Indigo... she's my baby. My only daughter. I'd do anything for her." Rafael said, even though he was casually holding a knife while talking. At least he was trying to be nice.
"I'd do anything for her as well, sir."
"How many times do I have to say call me Rafael? Sir makes me feel old." He groaned.
"Sorry, Rafael."
"She really takes after her mother, she was such a wonderful woman."
"Yeah, I can see that." Tom gushed.
"Have you ever thought about marrying her?" Rafael asked.
Tom almost dropped a whole stack of plates as he was asked that. "You wouldn't believe how much I've thought about it."
"If you ever do it, you have my complete blessing." Rafael smiled at Tom, which made him feel a lot better.
"Thank you."

Tom returned to the dining room, hoping Indigo didn't wonder what took him so long.
"Oh good, you're back!" Indigo cheered.
They proceeded to set the table, and once they were done, so was the food. Papa Rivera had truly outdone himself this year, knowing it was Tom's first thanksgiving ever.
"Tom, try the stuffing." Diego whispered.
"Yeah, try it." Indigo smirked.
Tom took a bite, and was completely mind blown. "Holy fuck- I mean- oh my god, this is amazing."
Everyone at the table laughed at his reaction, and continued with the feast. As it went on, Diego talked non stop about Zendaya. That boy was definitely whipped.
"What is up with my children dating famous people?"
"Hey! We're kinda famous too!" Indigo and Diego yelled in unison.
Rafael chuckled. "Whatever whatever, let's say what we're thankful for. Indigo, you start."
"Well, I'm thankful for my family, of course, my wonderful friends, Tom, and Spider-Man for being my savior. Tom, you go next."
"Okay, well, I'm thankful for you, obviously, my parents, and my stupid brothers." Tom said. "Oh! And this stuffing." He added, putting a huge amount of stuffing in his mouth.
"I'll go." Diego spoke. "I'm thankful for Wicked, thanks to Indigo, papa, and how amazing this year has been."
"Now the best for last, me! I'm thankful for my wonderful children, and my late wife who brought them to this earth. Amen."
"Why did you add the amen-"
"Diego, shut up."

They all hung around the house for awhile before they had to drive back to the city, and Indigo was surprised by how her father and Tom were getting along.
Rafael said he was going to show Tom his classic mint condition Spider-Man comics, but he actually showed him Indigo's childhood bedroom. She didn't know that, though.
At around 9:00, it was time for them to leave.
"Bye, papa. I'll see you at Christmas? Or earlier?" Indigo asked, hugging her father.
"Definitely Christmas." He responded, then hugged Diego. "Bye, Diego."
Rafael then gave Tom a bear hug. "Nice seeing you."
"Nice seeing you too, Rafael."
"Bye, papa! I love you!"
What a day.
