For many years the Shimada clan ruled over the Japanese underworld with many of the other families having to fight over the scraps one of these families the Uesugi Syndicate.

Originally from Japan's northern island of Hokkaido its current leader is Kenshin while his only son Shingen is next in line followed by his niece Kaga who has strong ties for the throne but had little chance cause she was a woman. Kenshin is a great leader instead of pure petty crimes he prefers protecting the weak and fighting the strong while trying to find enlightenment and tradition while lacking in numbers they make up for in quality in its warriors.

Kaga's father Shinoj is Kenshin's brother and is in charge of the northern branch in Honshu and their home land of Hokkaido. So Kaga grew up far away from the activities in Tokyo.

An unexpected opening came when internal rivalry between the two Shimada brother tore the family apart this left the rest of the families to fight to take the top spot while the Takeda were ruling over now the Uesugi are in battle with their rivals the Hattori for second place. While the Shimada were Ninja and the Takeda walked as Samurai, Uesugi were militant Buddhist monks providing weapons trafficking and protection rackets. Their family weapon is not a sword but a great Naginata a powerful polearm and their crest is blessed with the tortoise spirit a creature of valiant defense.

As word began to spread about the younger shimada brother surviving this didn't relatively worry the Uesugi. Until during on of their ceremonies in his quest to slay the Shimada brothers air to the Takeda clan Bokuden destroyed one of their most protected shrines in the process fatally injuring Shingen. Enraged by this act of self hatred adding that the Takeda did nothing about it Kenshin ordered his brother to send their finest warrior to go and slay Bokuden as their too occupied fighting the Hattori. Unsurprisingly he choose his own daughter for the job this was unprecedented as many saw women unfit for the job but for the northern branch she was the perfect choice as she had already established her role as the main enforcer so Kenshin be grudgingly tasked her with the job acting also as a test to show her skill. Crafting her own Naginata infusing a chip of metal from the family Naginata Kaga set out on her quest blessed by the tortoise and swore to punish her foe and prove her worth to her uncle.

So he can deflect Reinhard charges so the strategy is that while Shell locking enemies might focus you down providing a distraction and since all damage is reflected you also act as a temporary barrier for your teammates and can be cancelled at anytime. When activated she gains a spirited version of a turtle shell around her}
