A Fox's Habit - [Yandere!Tomoe x Reader]

"Lady (y/n), why won't you just listen to me?" Tomoe's irritable voice sounded from behind you , the fox demon relentlessly following you around as you worked; as always. You couldn't suppress a groan of your own annoyance at the familiar's constant babbling, having long given up warding him off in favor of actually getting chores done.

Scrubbing the wooden floors of the Mikage Shrine was no easy task, but it was nigh impossible when you had a persistent yokai nagging you the whole time. You tried to ignore him, but the silver-haired male simply moved himself into your line of vision.

"Hey! I said listen to me!" Growling, you hurled the soppy sponge in your hand at the shinshi; frowning when he skillfully caught it in his grasp. Standing up from your position on your knees, you simply grabbed the bucket of soapy water into your grasp; prepared to move on to the next chamber of the shrine.

"I thought I told you to get lost, you stupid fox!" You replied, fuming when you heard his footfalls behind yours as always. You could practically picture the constant frown on his face, and could feel his violet gaze boring into your back.

"And I thought I told you to make a contract with me!" Gritting your teeth once more in exasperation at the male's antics, you turned your back to him, going back to your work without missing a beat. There he goes again.

It had been like this ever since Nanami, your childhood friend, had invited you over to see her new home out of the blue. You hadn't seen hide nor hair of the girl since her father abandoned her, given that you had long since moved to attend a different high school. You had, given your long time friendship, been worried sick for the girl. So, when she suddenly contacted you, you couldn't have been more thrilled to see her again.

However, when you found yourself in front of a random shrine in the middle of the woods, you started to doubt your friend's sanity. How did she live here? You can't just live in a shrine!

She greeted you rather quickly, her smile not doing much to cover her true feelings. The furrowing of her brows and seemingly perpetual sweat-drop betrayed she was indeed stressed, but then again, she never was the one for taking on responsibilities. You had been worried for the girl long enough as it was, so when you asked her if there was anything you could do to help her after she explained her situation, it was only a natural act of friendship on your part.

However, you had no idea she already had something up her sleeve.

Before you knew it, Nanami had kissed you on the forehead; an act that surprised you quite efficiently. Sure, you had been best friends since you could barely walk; but this kind of display of affection was not really something of the norm between you two. Before you could do anything more than blush, the girl had cheered brightly; grabbing her suddenly nearby suitcases and running off with a call of 'Thanks, (y/n)-chan!'.

You simply stood there in her wake, watching the gate of the shrine long after the brunette had disappeared. That is, until a certain fox yokai got curious as to where his current master's location was.

When he found you bewilderingly staring off after the exit of the shrine, your forehead bearing the mark of the land God however, he became anything but curious.

He was furious.

Nanami had barely been his Kami a week now, and she had already abandoned him. Just like Mikage had...

The fact broke his heart more than it pissed him off. He had feared this would happen. He knew this would happen. He should had never let himself be tricked into being her shinshi in the first place! She was too reluctant to be a God in the first place, after all. He knew it would never last. Just like how it didn't with his former master.

He was left alone, again.

Without even giving the new land God another look, he growled deeply; catching her off guard as he ripped a portal to the spirit world open angrily. Like hell was he going to ever waste his time on another person that would only just leave him behind in the dust. The teenage girl looked no more capable than the friend who had tricked her, and even less prepared to take on the duties of God-ship. He couldn't care less what happened to her. She'd just have to find some other poor demon to rope in for service.

However, as the days went by, and the aching in his heart from being abandoned once again dulled, he couldn't help but wonder how his old home was faring. Had you simply left and let it go to waste? Were Onikiri and Kotetsu being overrun by a condemned shrine again? He tried to convince himself he didn't care...But he knew his home for near over the past century was important to him.

He would just check in, that was it.

You had probably already run for the hills, anyway. He didn't need to worry about getting stuck in another contract. Right?

He soon found himself in a tree overlooking the Earth Deity's shrine, his violet gaze widened in shock.

Everything looked to be in tip-top shape, the property looking as if nothing had changed since his departure. The grass was still trimmed correctly, and the shrine didn't look worn down. He couldn't help but stare in disbelief, not even noticing when the two keepers of the shrine floated up to meet him.

"Ah, Tomoe, its you!" Kotetsu cheered, appearing teary-eyed by the sight of his old friend. "I thought you were gone forever!" Onikiri nodded in agreement, the small spirit levitating about cheerfully.

"Lady (y/n)'s been keeping everything running smoothly around here." The demon added, obviously proud of the fact. "She's pretty determined to perform her duty as the Land God!"

The fox couldn't believe his ears at their words, his gaze hardening despite the evidence before him. He crossed his arms under his kimono, scoffing lightly. There was no way that human girl was doing all this herself.

"Yeah, right." The pair of shrine keepers flinched at his chilly tone, the smaller demons sweat-dropping when his gaze narrowed at the place of worship below him. "She just makes her familiar do all the work."

"U-Uh...Actually..." Kotetsu began, scratching his cheek lightly as he did. "Lady (y/n) doesn't have any shinshi..." Tomoe's eyes widened at his old friend's words, blinking in surprise. What? You...Had been doing all this upkeep yourself?

His unasked question was answered when he saw your apron-clad form emerge from the back of the shrine, various cleaning supplies in tow. His violet gaze just stared on in disbelief as you grabbed up a sponge, a determined glint to your gaze as you scrubbed at the stone tile of the pathway. Onikiri noticed his shocked demeanor, floating beside him to confer the yokai's doubts.

"Lady (y/n)'s been working really hard to be a proper God." She noted, gazing down at her new Land God proudly. "She told us, that if she was going to be given such a duty, then she might as well take it seriously." The silver-haired male only continued to watch you carefully, noting the way you panted tiredly. Had you...Had you really been working tirelessly for the betterment of the shrine? He was...impressed. Nanami herself had gotten tired of the physical labor after only a day or so, and had left to hunt him down and form a contract.

So...Why hadn't you sought out help? He knew the shrine keepers would have filled you in on all the necessary information, so why hadn't you contracted with a demon? A God is generally nothing without someone to help carry out their word. Before he knew what he was doing, he let his thoughts be voiced; never moving his gaze from observing you.

"Why...Hasn't she gotten a shinshi?" He asked calmly, catching his two fellow demons off guard. Kotetsu seemed unsure as he spoke, but still held that regard for his master in his voice.

"Mistress (y/n) said she didn't need any help." He admitted, earning Tomoe's gaze from the corner of his eye momentarily. "She said that if she was going to be a God, then she was going to do it herself." The male once again found his awestruck gaze locked onto your busily working form, violet orbs following as you stiffly stood; wiping your brow before supposedly moving on to the next chore.

"She also said she wasn't much for human contact anyway, so this sort of life style suited her." Onikiri added thoughtfully, swooning at her Kami's hard work. "I'm sure she'll be as grand an Earth Deity as even Mikage soon enough!"

You...Were more like a God than either of his masters had been. You showed determination and an unbridled will to earn your rank of Kami, as if you knew you had to work to feel deserving of such a title. He felt his expression waver.

You...Would never leave the shrine. So...If he became your servant...

You wouldn't leave him...Right?

He had to admit, watching you work, he felt a hole in his heart. He was lonely. He had been abandoned by those he trusted more than anyone else in the world not once, but twice. He felt the need to never let that happen again, yet...He felt drawn to you. If he contracted with you, you would surely never leave him; given your determined nature, right? So he could safely become attached to you, right?

It was after this that he had appeared once more at your side, offering his services to you after all.

However, you had done the unexpected.

Time after time, you rejected his offer of being your familiar; an act that shocked him. You had claimed you were determined to do this 'God thing', as you had put it, on your own. Never before had been been faced with such a situation. Were you stupid? A God needs a servant to protect them! He would be able to know where you were at all times from the connection, and feel any pain you felt! Then you wouldn't have to do all these chores by yourself, either, and would have more time to learn how to properly hone your holy powers.

So, then, despite all his reasoning, why did you still deny his offers?

It infuriated him to no end, but he wouldn't give up. He wanted to protect you, the only person he still held faith in to be a proper land God and not betray him. Because of this, he took it upon himself to follow you around wherever you went. If you wouldn't make a contract with him, then he'd just have to watch you constantly to make sure you stayed safe.

Today was just another one of those days for him.

His eyebrow twitched as he watched you tirelessly slave away over your daily tasks; the manual labor seeming more than unfit for you to him. Your effortless abilities in being Godlike astounded him, and the very idea of you dirtying your hands over such menial tasks after observing you for so long made him cringe. Why wouldn't you just let him do these tasks for you?

"Just stop being so stubborn!" He growled, swishing his tail in irritation. "Let me become your familiar!"

Once again, the God he so looked up to simply sent him a glare; the (e/c) orbs he admired sharp.

"For the last. Freaking. Time." You gritted out, standing from your finished job of scrubbing the floors stiffly as you did. "I don't need yours, or anyone else's help! I'm perfectly capable of doing all of this junk myself!" However, your confidence didn't quite meet your eyes, the strain of the intense daily labor clouding over your prideful determination slightly. Tomoe caught this momentary lapse in your gaze, your exhausted panting doing nothing to prove your statement as you attempted to move on to your next task.

His gaze narrowed on your faced away form, his hands clenching into fists at his sides. You were doing nothing but pushing yourself too hard, and he couldn't stand to see it. He wanted to protect you, not let you work yourself to the bone! His ears flattened against his head when he saw you struggle to pick up your supplies. That was it. He hadn't wanted to do this, but he had not other choice.

If you wouldn't willingly accept his offer of servitude, then he would just have to force himself upon you. As much as it made his chest constrict at the thought of doing such a thing to a being as holy as yourself, he knew it couldn't be helped.

He steeled himself as he approached your turned away from, grabbing your arm as gently as possible. You lightly jumped at the sudden gesture, only becoming more shocked when he swiftly turned you around in his grip. Before you could tell the way too close for comfort fox off, however, his lips were upon yours.

Your (e/c) gaze widened immensely at the abrupt act, a harsh blush erupting on your face as it did. You simply stood there stiffly, while the silver-haired male reacted quite differently. Although a kiss was standard for the sealing of a contract between a demon and Kami, the kitsune couldn't help but feel shocked by the feeling of his lips against yours. When he had done the same with his previous masters, the pact had not felt nearly as...good as this one did.

He felt himself melt into the gesture, the feeling of the forming bond between you two giving him more satisfaction then he had anticipated. He knew he had wanted you as his master for such a long time now, but he hadn't expected the feeling of finally being your servant to be so enthralling.

Although he never wanted the ritual to end, he failed to hold you in place when you finally came to your senses. With a quick push and a step back, you stared down the lightly flustered demon; an intense scowl decorating your features.

"What the hell was that?!" You demanded, taking another step back as you gripped your hands into fists. You had never really been in a relationship before, never mind having kissed someone! Finally snapping to his own senses, the now contracted shinshi simply grinned slyly; his expression victorious. He had done it...He had become her familiar. And now, she was his master.

And he never intended to let her leave him.

He bowed before her, taking her trembling hand in his own before placing a not very chaste kiss on the top of said appendage.

"I sealed the covenant between us, seeing as though you were being so difficult." He muttered against your skin, the act sending shivers down your spine. Wait...He had done what now?! The added stress of all this sudden physical contact caused your already exhausted mind to reel, and before you knew it, you were slipping into unconsciousness.

Swiftly, Tomoe caught his beloved mistress in his arms; holding her bridle style as he gazed down warmly at her sleeping face. She was his now, and he was her's. Just as he always wanted it to be. However, a thought nagged at the back of his mind.

What if she tries to break the contract with you?

His gaze darkened at the thought, his bangs moving to cover his eyes. There would be nothing stopping her from doing so and then banishing him from the shrine. He knew her powers were slowly enhancing with time, and before long she would easily be able to keep him at bay. Having her so close to him now, he couldn't help but hold her closer at the mere idea of being forced away from her after all of this.

No, he wouldn't let that happen.

Never.

With resolve he didn't know he possessed, he marched into the shrine; ignoring the keepers as they worried inquired about their master. He gently placed the female down on her bed, watching her momentarily before brushing back a lock of her (h/l) (h/c) from her face. He smiled slowly, expression soft as he observed her peacefully sleeping form.

"Don't worry, Mistress...I'll keep you safe." With a flick of his fingers, a flame-like barrier surrounded the entirety of the shrine; hiding the presence of the place to all passerbys and, of course, preventing anyone from leaving. His violet gaze bore into the sleeping girl, eyes betraying his feelings for her.

Because, after all, he recalled Akura-Ou once claiming he had a 'fox habit' of hiding things away that were precious to him.

Looking at his work now, he couldn't help but agree with the man's words.

You were his most precious belonging, and he intended to keep your from anything, or anyone else for that matter.

"Forever and ever."
