Round 6: Major - Saving Chaldea

To Travis Winchester, professor Lev had always seemed… off. Sure he was nice and always smiled. The man always seemingly willing to help as long as he had enough time. But, no matter what he did, Travis couldn't help, but dislike the man, and he had a good reason, had it not been for the man, his sister Trista would still be alive. Hell, a lot of people would be alive.

Slowly trotting down the long, white halls of the Chaldea laboratory-observatory, he followed the strange man. Eyes trailing after the strange man.

Oddly enough the male recalled how strange the man really was to him. His hair was a strange shade – kind of like an odd mix of brown and a more purple type of maroon. His hair also managing to look puffy and somewhat spikily unkempt at the same time. The taller man always wearing that green coat over his suit that was just as normal as his smile and closed eyes. And all of it simply unnerved Travis.

Sure, when he came to the Chaldea Security Organization with his older half-sister he was barely more than a novice. Hell, at one point he was nothing more than a kid from Wisconsin before she came along after their dad died nearly ten year’s ago from this day. She taught him magic and showed him how cruel mages could be because of their practices.

Mages were cruel, calculating, caring for nothing other than themselves. Humans and animals nothing, but sacrifices. And their familiars… nothing but a tool. But, she never believed that mages should be such, they should be able to live like normal people. That was probably why she trusted the man, despite the fact that she had that same weariness about the man. That trust… it got her just like it had gotten our leader Olga Marie Animusphere … dead.

Snapping out of his thoughts he watched as Professor Lev turned down another hall, striking up a conversation with a pink haired girl with glasses and an orange haired female. Both accompanied by the organizations strange little white rabbit-like creature Fou.

“Right, this is the day Ritsuka came as the last master candidate and her and Mash met. It's also the day that Trista, Olga and most of our people here were taken out. Chaldeas turned red today… but I'm going to stop that.” Travis whispered to himself, “today, we'll go explore singularity F and save all of humanity.”

Travis was about to duck back as Mash Kyrielight looked his way. The girl almost seeming to wonder what he was doing as the other two turned his way.

Lev smiled his way as he called out to the blond, waving him over. Travis hesitantly walking over to the three, his skin crawling as he stared at the male, his close-eyed smile incredibly unnerving. Making the male almost want to crawl up the wall and hang from it for dear life like a terrified cat in a cartoon.

“Travis,” The male greeted before turning back to the amateur mage, Ritsuka. “The Directors orientation is about to start. You better hurry.”

The girl had given him a confused look, her head tilted to the side a bit. “Orientation,” she mused, not seeming to understand, then again who could blame her, she barely knew how to be a master or mage.

“Yeah,” Travis found himself saying, cutting Lev off as he was about to speak. “It’s to greet all the new Master's here,”

The girl smiled, nodding her head and scratching the back of her neck, chuckling in embarrassment. He almost wanted to smile at how the female, hell even mash seemed so simulate to their old selves, despite how much they'd been through.

For a moment the three continued to converse until all of a sudden Lev spoke. The words bringing him back to reality once more. Right, he had a job to do…

“… If I leave you alone like this the Director might yell at me…” He spoke, the males normal smile twisting into a grimace, his eyes open for once. “I should tag along as well, eh?”

Lev turned his head to look at Travis, at least he thought the man had. His strange smile once more plastered over his features. “Will you be joining us,”

The male nodded, allowing Lev to take the lead as he followed after the girls. Ritsuka occasionally asking questions as Mash attempted to answer with the best of her knowledge.

Upon reaching the area designated for the Orientation, Mash got Ritsuka to her seat the girl returning soon after. An almost pitying glint in her eyes as she looked back at the poor girl. On the other hand, Travis twitched each time Professor Lev would look across the room or at him. It was like he was taking everything in before he destroyed everything.

Time seemed to pass quickly as the boy almost dozed off, his eyes not shut, but it seemed as if his brain was running away from him before suddenly stopping and bringing him back.

*Slap*

He looked up at the familiar sight of Olga Marie slapping Ritsuka. A frown on her features as she yelled at the poor girl. Most likely she was still suffering from the Spiritron Dive if he recalled what Lev had said earlier.

Within a bit, the orientation was over and Mash readied to leave, however before she could Travis grabbed her wrist. “Hey, Mash? I wanna ask you a favor since we're going to the singularity today, I wanted you to give this to my sister.” The often quiet female frowned at him, confusion and even worry in her eyes. “Hey, it's nothing I just happened to get suspended from the mission for pissing Olga off, I don't want to make it worse.”

As he pulled the letter from his pocket, handing it to the pink haired girl. She sighed but smiled just the slightest. “Alright,” And with that, she trotted off to Ritsuka taking the girl to her room.

On the other hand, Travis began to follow after Lev again. The male clutching the switchblade in his pocket. He simply had to wait for the right moment.

Upon walking into one of the now completely deserted halls, Travis switched out the blade. An unsettling feeling settling in his stomach. If he did this would he return to his own time, would he be in a jail cell or would things be different? He could only hope that if his letter got to his sister things would become clear and the bombs in the control room would be found.

“I have no choice, it's him or Trista and the world,” shaking the bad feeling and thoughts off, he started towards the man, dashing forward with speed he never thought was possible of him and plunging the blade through the man’s back, the weapon making an unsettling sound as he pulled it out. The body falling to the ground.

It was only in that moment that he really felt like a mage; that he had done something so heartless to get to his goal of ensuring his sister, Chaldea, and the world saw the future. That fact almost made him scared, more so than the fact he had just stabbed the man in the back, probably puncturing the heart in the process.

Looking down, Travis watched as his whole body began to go translucent, his body slowly dissolving from his feet up. The partials floating off like partials of dust. “I hope… this helps the world…” Travis spoke as he faded away.

~~ A Ten Minutes Later ~~
A loud commotion coming from the halls outside the boy's room made him get to his feet. The male tiredly muttering about his strange dream. “Time Travel… Lev… The end of Mankind… Olga Marie dying, Trista must have poured something into my food last night. That was pretty out of nowhere. I mean Olga's too stubborn to die, on a way to a breakdown, but not death,”

Open the door he came to see his older sister, Trista a worried look in her olive green eyes and her lips drawn in a line. “We’ve found Lev's body and the bombs in the command room,” Trista stated. “How'd you know he had them there? Were you still following him after Olga suspended you for that? Did you kill Lev?”

All of a sudden Mash and Ritsuka skidded to a halt in the doorway. “Olga Marie wants to talk to you, Travis,” Ritsuka spoke.

Travis blinked but decided to face his fear and walked out of the room. Fear gnawing at the back of his mind.

That wasn’t a dream, I killed Lev and saved this place. I just wish I could explain this to Olga Marie, she'll never believe that Lev deserved to die. She trusted him.

“And in return, Lev killed her, just remember that…” A voice called in his mind; his voice.
