Round 4: Captin - Lightning vs. Lancer

Lightning Farron had fought gods and fate longer then this world had existed. And though she may have thought gods and magic were just a thing of the past world; she had not come to realize that the fact just wasn't true. Magic still seemed to exist, but it was much more brutal than in her past world.

She could see the colorful lights flickering and flashing through the sky above the school. Various pieces of the building appearing to crumble. And then it stopped. Lightning ran faster, stumbling into a battlefield.

A man using a lance stood farthest, his spear alight with a bright red flame, yet she could tell it was magic. While a silver-haired male stood before a teenage girl, two swords in hand. Honestly, she would have left, not giving it another thought until she heard the scuff of another person's shoes. The lancer’s eyes going wide as he hollered, “Huh, who’s there?”

“This doesn’t look good,” she thought to herself grabbing a piece of metal from at her side and running at the figure. “Hey,”

The lancer turned only to see the pink haired woman flying towards him at a speed no normal human should be able to move. Holding his lance up he guarded against the attack, pushing Lightning backward. “Who the hell,”

He grinned at her as she slowly staggered back to her feet. “I think I should be asking you that.” She spoke. It was impossible that the man was from this time, hell he looked like he stepped out of the middle ages.

“Lancer,” He spoke, feeling no need to give his true identity to the woman; a bystander much like that boy the other master and servant had run after. “Listen, miss, I'm sorry but, I got to get rid of you and those other three,"

He readied another attack, placing his weapon close to the ground and launching himself at Lightning. Only for her to jump to the side, missing the attack. The pink haired female running at him once more, sidestepping him and hitting him in the side. “Not a chance in hell,” she growled.

“Your pretty strong for a human,” He said disappearing in a flash of bright light only to reappear once more behind her, knocking the female away. Her body flying through the air and rolling to a stop a bit farther away.

She groaned as she staggered back to her feet. Her teeth clenching as she glared up at the grinning figure before her. It was like he enjoyed this. The fact lighting a spark of anger and irritation in her heart that only a few ever managed to spark. “What's wrong with you?” She managed to growl out.

He shrugged in response, a chuckle coming from the male as he leaped into the air, aiming to strike while she was still unprepared. Yet, Lightning managed to run away from him, sliding to a stop and turning just as he landed, lance impaled in the concrete. “Damn, I don't know if I can win this time. I don't have magic, I don't even have a proper weapon.” She whispered.

“Y'know, most human's can't keep up with a servant,” Lancer mused, watching as her makeshift weapon lit with sparks. The woman seeming slightly surprised, before the emotion suddenly melted away.

“Maybe I'm not, I've faced a lot of difficult battles in another time… killed more than enough gods.” Rushing forward she moved past him, managing to slice him in the side, sparks flying around her ‘weapon' as she slides to a stop behind him, turning swiftly and charging forward again. The impact of the blow sending the man flying not too far away from her. “Why are you even here, I thought magic and Gods were gone ever since we defeated Bhunivelze,”

“Bhunivelze,” Lancer repeated as he stood,  “Haven't ever heard of ‘em,”

At his words, she had to wonder just how he seemed to not know anything about the past world? And most of all, how was she even using magic?

She sneered at the male, “Fine, If you can't tell me that, then tell me why you were going to attack that person,” She found herself asking, hoping to have one question answered, even if it wasn't one of the ones she really wanted to know.

“That's just how it is in this war, we can't have any non-mages talking about what they've seen: dead men tell no tales as they say.” Lightning couldn't help but laugh at his explanation. It almost reminded her of all those people that had come across her and her allies when they were L'Cie. To PSICOM they were a problem that could only be solved with their death.

“So, you'll kill some innocent civilian just because they managed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” She spoke, watching the male closely, waiting for his next move.

For once he seemed to be slightly serious while he was talking to her, his grin which had once been etched into his features gone, replaced with a frown. “Well,” he spoke after a moment, “it's what's required of me during this war.”

She took a deep breath, getting angry wasn't going to do her any good. But, she knew she couldn't let him go either. Her sister had recently taken up a job here in Fuyuki as a teacher in this very building. She couldn't let her sister be in danger because of these people and their war.

“Well, if that's so I can't let you go either,” Lightning said, raising her weapon.

The male looked at the woman like she was crazy, yet got back in his own stance all the same. He'd already let Archer and his master get away with the kid. So he had no reason to leave just yet. After all, this person was pretty interesting. He could tell she had mana, and she knew how to use it, but her skill was something more similar to his fellow servants.

The two traded blows for a bit longer until all of a sudden Lancer stopped, jumping back with a sigh. “Sorry to cut this short,” he said, his body slowly beginning to dissolve. “but, I look forward to meeting again,”

She glared at the spot where he once stood, “Count on it, Lancer,” She uttered, turning on her heel and making her way out of the school.

This war was definitely a problem, one that made her realize something had happened, something she neglected to notice, while she and the others were settling into their new lives.

Once more Lightning had found something that would keep her from normalcy. But, as long as she could protect Serah and anyone else who didn't deserve to die, she would.

A/N

I really tried my best with this one, not sure how good it is. But, I hope it's not too bad and okay with this rounds prompt. I took Lightning from the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy and Lancer from Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works. Kind of using the New World (Which is basically like our own) from the end of the trilogy to include the Fate Series.
