Child's Play 1 (Heroes of Olympus)
I'm going to write a series of one shots in which characters play children's games with each other. Feel free to make requests for fandoms, games, or both.
"Hey, Percy? Where is everybody?" I was confused as I looked around and didn't see any campers.
I could tell Percy was trying to hide something from me because he looked relived as he said, "Wise Girl, I think the Romans are here."
I turned to him and smiled. "Great, Reyna and I need to talk about some things, and-"
"Actually, I had the other cabins help me set up a game..." he replied, rubbing the back of his neck.
"A game?" I questioned. "What are we playing?"
He smiled, it was that troublemaker smile that used to annoy me, but had since grown on me. "You'll just have to wait."
I was about to argue with that when I saw Reyna and Frank. Jason and Hazel were right behind to them. They were all heading towards the Big House and seemed to be deep in conversation.
"...just saying the unicorns- Annabeth? Percy?" Frank smiled as he seemed to notice us.
"Hey, Frank," Percy greeted. "How's Praetor-ship going for you?"
Frank's smile faded as he replied, "It's stressful; I'm sure Reyna would agree."
Reyna nodded when he said that. "We think Hannibal is sick, so we haven't been using him in the war games, but now everyone is upset about it!"
"Will he be alright?" Percy asked.
"We expect him to recover just fine," Reyna said with a small smile.
"Good," Percy stated, "that means we can play guilt free!"
"Um, Percy, not to sound distrusting, but...what exactly do you mean by play?" Hazel asked nervously.
"We're playing a game," he replied.
Jason looked at me questioningly, I simply shrugged.
Percy smiled as he called out "Okay, everyone, you can come out now!"
All at once we were swarmed by campers, every one of them was armed. That is, they were armed with water guns and water balloons.
I looked to my side to see that Reyna, Frank, Hazel, and Jason looked as shocked as I felt.
"Percy, what are you doing?" I asked getting a bit worried.
"We're having a water battle; the rules are simple, shoot everyone and don't get hit."
Jason looked confused, but excited," So how do I win?"
"You don't, " Percy responded," but whoever's driest at the end of the game wins."
"Okay," I replied, "but one more rule; no powers."
"Fine then," Percy replied.
Right after he said that Piper, Leo, and Nico brought us our water guns.
Wait.
Nico?
Hazel seemed to have the same thought as I did because looked at him and asked, "What are you doing, not that I'm not happy, but this doesn't seem to be your idea of fun."
Nico just looked down and mumbled something about Will. That made me smile; I'm glad he finally found someone to make him smile.
Someone in the crowd, I'd guess Connor Stoll, shouted,"EVERYONE SPLIT UP! WE'LL SOUND THE DINNER CONCH TO START THE GAME! THE GAME ENDS WHEN IT"S TIME FOR DINNER!" With that everyone ran.
During the chaos I felt each of my arms get grabbed then realized I was being dragged behind the weapons shed. My captors were Reyna and Piper.
"We're teaming up," Piper answered my question before I even asked it.
"Good," I stated. "Follow me." We snuck to my cabin where I found some silver cloth (it's usually used for shrouds) and instructed the others to wear it as a headband. "We'll be able to recognize the others quicker," I explained, "So we won't hit each other."
Reyna and Piper seemed to realize it was a valid plan and didn't question it.
"Now," I said, "we need a plan. We could run into the fight head on, or we could go a different route..."
Reyna asked, "What are you thinking?"
"We'll need some water balloons..."
I saw Piper give me a thumbs up from her spot at the top of a tree at the edge of the woods. Reyna soon appeared in her spot on top of the Big House giving the signal for all ready. Hazel, who we'd recruited along with Katie Gardner, Lou Ellen, and some of the younger campers, had headed into the woods; I could only hope they were alright and in position.
The conch sounded as I checked to make sure I couldn't be seen from my position on top of my cabin. I waited in silence; it seemed most everyone else were hiding. I was about to check on the others when I heard it. A splash followed by a scream. I would have been happy, but there was a problem. I knew that scream.
Katie.
She was being chased by Connor and Travis, go figure. As she got closer I saw why she screamed, their water balloon was huge. I have to give Katie props, while she was a little damp, she stuck with the plan and lured them right to me. When they were close enough I attacked.
The brothers yelled things like 'that's not fair,' 'Katie, you set us up,' and 'PLEASE STOP, IT HURTS' as I pelted them with water balloons. I stopped when they were out of distance, but they left dripping wet.
This continued with many campers, until I accidentally made a nine-year-old girl, Barbara (daughter of Hermes), cry. She's now on the roof helping me demolish other campers. We even got to watch Leo get destroyed by Piper, run to the Big House for "safety," then get destroyed by Reyna.
I was sure we'd win until I was grabbed from behind. Barbara jumped to try and help me, but I was dragged up and became a human shield.
"Gotcha."
Crap. That was the only word I had to think before I was dragged off the roof bye the one and only Seaweed Brain.
I was dragged off and completely shot at by Will, Nico, Frank, Jason, Leo, Grover and Chris before I managed to run off.
"Grover? How could you?" I demanded.
"Sorry, Annabeth," Grover looked down in guilt. "Percy has tin cans."
I finally managed to get away, I almost made it to the Big House door when Percy grabbed onto me. I knew I only had one choice if my team was going to win the war.
"GET THEM NOW!" I yelled up to Reyna.
Reyna looked out from her spot on the roof. "BUT I'LL HIT YOU!" Reyna argued.
"IT DOESN'T MATTER," I retorted. "IT'S OUR ONLY CHOICE!" That's when the first balloon hit. They rest followed like rain after that, soaking us all.
The conch sounded soon after, signaling the end of the match and dinner. Everyone gathered at the pavilion soaking wet, excluding Reyna, making her the clear winner.
I found Piper and began to question her, "How many people did you hit? How long did the hiding spot last? Who got you so wet? How'd you get away?"
Piper sighed before responding, "A lot. Longer than we expected. Jason. I ran into the woods." After that we stared at each other in silence until we both started laughing. We split up for dinner, but met up for the campfire.
Percy had since wrapped an arm around my shoulder. "You did good, Wise Girl."
"You did well too, Seaweed Brain. Thanks for the fun day."
"We're doing that again, right?"
"We'd better."
