Trying to Prepare for Hogwarts Chapter 1.
"Good morning Jacob!" I hear Olive scream at me. Gosh, what time do these children get up in the morning?
"Mr. Portman! I advise you to come down quickly. A letter has came in the mail for all the residents of my house. That includes you now!"
Oh, forgot. Miss Peregrine was telling us last night at dinner that we were going to an exchange school for wizards and witches called Hogwarts. Well, stranger things have turned out to be true. Like exactly what's around me now.
The letter must have come this morning.
I jump out of bed and rush down the stairs, taking them two at a time. When I get to the dining room, everyone's already gathered around the table.
"Jacob!" Hugh yells. "I'm glad you're awake. I haven't been allowed to open this bloody letter since it got here!"
I took the letter from him and ripped it open. I had to admit, I was excited.
Dear residents of Cairnholm's very own loop,
I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected to attend Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I promise you, steps have been taken to insure you are completely safe during your time here, seeing as all of you have different habits. You see, I have students of my own, and this year, two more schools are joining us. Upon arrival, you will be sorted into your houses, your teams, if you will, and your correct age group. We hope you have an enjoyable rest of the year experience, and hope to see you this term. Please be ready to leave at a moments notice. I suggest you have your bags packed. Hogwarts will be sending someone shortly.
Sincerely,
Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Order of Merlin, First class
There was a collective intake of breath as I finished reading the letter aloud. Horace immediately rushed off, muttering, "What to pack? How will my needs be taken care of?"
Bronwyn tried to lighten the mood with, " I wonder what the others will be like?" Then rushed off with Claire and Olive to get ready. Everyone ran off to start packing. Soon, nearly all of them were ready to leave.
"It's not like we have a lot of stuff to pack. Well, some more than others." Nettalyn said eyeing the others possessions.
Just then there was a racket coming from upstairs. We all rushed up to see what was happening. Those who were not finished packing were rushing around pulling sheets off beds, grabbing last minute objects. Miss Peregrine was running through the rooms, making comments like, " You don't really need those things," and " What ever will you use that for?"
Nettalyn ran off, trying to help Enoch, who was trying to stuff as many jars as possible in his duffel bag, which was overflowing to the point of never being able to close.
I had to laugh as Horace stumbled into the hallway, holding up an array of suits. "Which ones will I take? How can I decide?" He asked, thrusting them in Miss Peregrines face.
"Mr. Somnusson, compose yourself. I was informed Hogwarts has a dress code." She explained.
"What? No! Please tell me it's something classy, or something to alter!"
"Most uniforms, if I am correct, are not able to be altered, but I suppose you could wear your normal wardrobe during your down time." Miss Peregrine replied, trying to compose him.
"Oh, all right." Horace replied, shaking his head sadly.
