Day One
Floods of children ran through the hallways, there was barely any room to move. Miss Peregrine kept her skirt up around her ankles, because she knew someone, that one kid would trip on them and go flying down the immense stairs. Her classroom was on the sixth floor, and to get to it she had to go through multiple passages.
"Get out of the way!" Called a voice from down the hall, and there was a whoosh as a seventh year student flew by on a broom. Everyone ducked.
Oh my! Miss Peregrine thought. Students practically free range the castle. But perhaps that was the only way to run a large school, just let it go.
Meanwhile, most students were in the Great Hall, dishes spread out before them. All were in the correct house, as it should be. After about an hour or so, the first students began to disperse. They had their schedules in hand. It should have been nice and orderly.
But, in Greenhouse Seven, where the seventh year Hufflepuff and Slytherin houses were, a fight had broken out. It was between Gally and Frodo. What had happened was, Gally called Frodo a shrimp, then Frodo had insulted Gally's nose. Everyone was enjoying the scene. The two boys rolled around on the floor. Most everyone was rooting for Frodo, because they all knew Gally was a bully.
Then Professor Sprout came in through the doorway, and saw what was going on.
"Boys!" She shrieked, and tried to pull them off one another. A couple others tried to help her. Finally they were separated, and lay panting on the cement floor. "Off to the castle. Let's see what Headmaster Dumbledore has to say about this!" Exclaimed Professor Sprout.
She got up from her crouching on the cement floor and dusted her hands off. "Now, good morning class!"
"Good morning..." They said hesitantly, because they had just seen their teacher break up a fight.
"Today you shall be instructed on the rules of the classroom." Everyone groaned. Most of them already knew the rules of the classroom, having taken the same class for the past six years. "Now, now, none of that. It's important to review."
After going through a tedious list of rules that anyone would know, they got started. "Now," said Professor Sprout, holding up a spiny, light purple plant, "who knows what this is?"
Inside the school, another event was taking place, the famous, (albeit terribly biased,) POTIONS CLASS! Yay! Doesn't every student love to go there? No, it's not for everyone. Professor Snape felt partial to Slytherin, as they were his house. Ah, well, how to tell a man that who knows how to poison you twenty ways? Anyway, this class was between sixth year Gryffindors and Ravenclaws.
"Hello, class." Snape said disdainfully, probably because there were no Slytherins.
"Hi." A few brave people muttered.
"I believe we can start right away, as you blockheads probably know all the rules, I will be strict with you."
"Ever a time you are not?" Muttered a sandy haired boy.
"What's that, Parker?" He barked at the boy.
"N-nothing sir." Said Joseph Parker as he bowed his head.
"That's what I thought. Now, I'm here to teach you potions. First, let's start with the role call."
Snape listed a few names.
"Newt? Why does this boy not have a last name!" Thundered Snape.
"It's a long story sir." Newt said from the back of the class.
"Is it? What's with your hair? You look like a delinquent."
"Excuse me!" Teresa, in her Gryffindor robes stood up with a scrape of her chair. "He lived in a maze for two years. They didn't have barbers!" She said.
"Who are you?" Asked Snape.
"I am Teresa Agnes, and I'm not standing still while you talk down to one of my friends!" Teresa exclaimed.
"Very well, both of you may leave this class."
They're all crazy this year! Thought Professor Snape. Dumbledore's finally cracked, he's let lunatics into the school this year. Snape, unfortunately, had had all the Gladers back to back to back and he had to take some aspirin. There was not a particularly strong enough potion to ward off this headache. This was what he thought.
Miss Peregrine herself was not faring too well. She had had her first case show up at lunch. She offered them tea. It was a girl with long blonde hair, she had some peculiar spectacles on, and carried a newspaper upside down.
"Hello dear." She smiled warmly as Luna took the seat in front of her.
"Hi. So, I'm going to get right down to it. People think I'm weird. It doesn't really matter to me, but I'm worried how it will affect my friends." She said.
"Oh, well. Here's what I suggest." Miss Peregrine said. "I'll pass you down some knowledge I learned from my teacher. When someone's bothering you, make a note. Say how you are feeling, and what that person is doing. It will make you feel better to get your feelings out. Write it on anything and paste it to your wall. Then, when you've grown up, you can look back on what you've accomplished. Ask yourself, has that person affected my success today? You'll probably have never seen them after school. Who knows, maybe you'll even be better than them."
"That's a good idea, perhaps I'll try that. You know, now that I talked to you, you're not so bad."
"What have you thought about me?" She asked her curiously.
"Well, one of your wards was saying how you were super strict, you never let them go outside, you yelled constantly. But I never really believed them. I mean, your aura is orange. That's a good thing."
And with that, Luna stood up and walked away.
That's odd. Miss Peregrine thought. Who would think that about me? I'm very fair to my wards. She would have to find out.
