New Memories
TMI ONESHOT
SIZZY
Simon had had an exhausting day. School had piled a lot of home-work on him, he had band practice at night and of course, the date with Izzy.
It was strange, Simon thought, to be madly in love with someone you barely knew.
Not that he didn't know Isabelle. He knew with all his heart that she loved him and he loved her but his memory only permitted him flashbacks of his life.
While that was definitely better than leading a mundane life, Simon ached to remember more details about Izzy. Her best memories of him, her worst memories, the times he hadn't been there for him. They had decided to start it slow.
Isabelle told him about her favourite places in the city, her favourite color and all her preferences but that wasn't enough for Simon. Whenever he wanted to know of some past memories between them, Isabelle would hesitate and pain and sadness would flash across her features. And Siom didn't want to hurt her so he kept quiet.
All these thoughts raced across his mind as he walked to the nearest cafe for his date. Izzy was already there, swirling a straw in her strawberry milkshake, lost in her thoughts. She had even ordered a chocolate milkshake for Simon.
"Hey", Simon said, pulling out a chair for himself.
"Hey", Isabelle smiled back.
Deciding to break the awkwardness, Simon started talking about the new name they were thinking for their band. Isabelle had been smiling politely but suddenly she cut him short.
"Simon, I want to talk to you about something."
Simon stopped and nodded, putting aside his milkshake. He could tell that Isabelle was serious. Her shoulders usually went a little stiff and her lips would purse up.
"I'm all ears."
"I know that you want to know about us, how we were before", she whispered, looking straight into his eyes.
"And every time I just... dally and shift the topic. I know it means a lot to you and you want to cling on to those memories, and it's not that we weren't happy before. It's just that... I can't do it Simon. Every time I try to tell you something that you would have known, it just pierces through my heart. It tells me that this is real, you've forgotten everything and this isn't a dream that I can just wake up from."
The sight of tears in her eyes alarmed Simon. Isabelle was a very strong women and if she was crying then she really was very distressed.
"Hey", Simon said, gently, cupping her face.
"All this is not your fault, Iz. It was my decision and I take full responsibility for that."
Isabelle's voice trembled a little.
"It's just that... it's not fair for you."
"Isabelle", Simon smiled.
"Our relationship is how we choose it to be. We can sulk over the past or start afresh. You can take your time, and who knows, I might get back my memories on my own. Till then, we won't rely on our past moments, we'll make new memories. Alright?"
Isabelle didn't answer. She leaned towards Simon and kissed him. And that was an answer in itself.
Sooo.
How was it?
