A Perfect Dog Day
A PJO ONESHOT
(Takes place some time after The Last Olympian)
"Um Annabeth are you sure about this?" Rachel asked, hesitatingly.
"Absolutely", Annabeth answered.
"I promised him and I never break my promises, no matter how long I may take to fulfill them."
Rachel sighed.
"Fine. I'll tell Chiron you've gone on a minor quest. There's no stopping you."
Annabeth smiled.
"When has there ever been."

"Dad you could let him off duty for just a few hours."
Hades frowned.
"I don't think that is possible, Nico."
"But Mrs O'Leary will take his place", Nico protested, as Mrs O'Leary woofed and thumped her tail happily.
"She is too friendly and not even half his size", Hades stated.
"She will never do."
"My skeletal warriors will stay with her", Nico said and an army of skeletons rose out of the ground.
Hades sighed and shook his head, with a ghost of a smile on his face.
"You've never been one to take no for an answer."

"I still don't see the point of this", Percy sighed, raking his hand through his hair.
"If you did you wouldn't have needed me", Annabeth said, and Percy had to smile.
"Okay, Wise Girl. Let's go then."
"We're missing someone important", Annabeth reminded him.
"Oh right, Nico."
"And Nico is going to bring him here, in this forest", Annabeth said.
"He should be here any moment now...."
The atmosphere around them grew colder and the shadows near them stirred.
And then Nico emerged from them, with a huge shadow behind him..
"This is a bad idea", he scowled.
"I know", Percy said.
"But I don't want an angry Annabeth and you don't want your photos of you smeared in pink paint to be leaked out."
"Stolls", Nico growled, but his words were drowned out by a vicious roar.
Three pair of red eyes glowed in the shadows and from them emerged a gigantic black Rottweiler with three heads.
"Cerberus", Annabeth smiled, taking out a huge red ball from her backpack.
"You remember me, don't you?"
Cerberus stilled for a moment and eyed Annabeth thoughtfully.
"We played ball, remember", Annabeth said, waving the ball in the air.
Cerberus let out a woof and wagged his tail.
Annabeth grinned and threw the ball.
"Fetch!" she yelled, and Cerberus bounded after it on top speed.
Nico gaped at the sight before his eyes.
"I can't believe it", he murmured.
"Told you", Annabeth smirked, as Cerberus came back with the ball in his mouth and dropped it at Annabeth's feet.
"I never knew he could be so.... docile", Nico said in awe, as he watched the three headed dog run after the ball again.
"He lives a very dull and boring life", Annabeth said.
"And everyone needs fun and excitement in their lives, especially dogs, who like to run and play not to be tied down and guard the dead."
Nico shrugged.
"He seemed happy to serve father."
Annabeth threw the ball again as Percy arched his eyebrows.
"Happy", he echoed in disbelief.
Annabeth laughed at Percy's expression.
Percy brought out some blue cookies from his bag.
"Well as long as I have my blue cookies - HEY!"
With one swift movement Cerberus gulped down the cookies.
Annabeth laughed as Percy glared at the guardian of the Underworld.
"Those were my blue-cookies!"
Cerberus's three heads let out a happy woof as Annabeth scratched his head playfully.
"Well dad wasn't very Waaaaaaa!"
Nico screeched as he found himself in midair, in between the jaws of the big dog, and then he landed on soft black fur.
"What the Hades!" Percy cursed beside him.
Annabeth herself looked very surprised as she found the three of them sitting on Cerberus's back.
"See, he's very friendly", Annabeth said with a smile.
"I don't like dog drool", Nico scowled.
"Well I think-"
But the rest of Percy's sentence was drowned out as Cerberus let out a bark and raced across he forest.
"Wooaaaah!"Nico yelled, hugging on for dear life.
"Look like we're getting a ride", Annabeth said loudly, a grin on her face.
"THIS IS AWESOME!" Percy cried, grinning from ear-to-ear.
"Better than any roller-coaster", Nico reluctantly agreed.
"WOOF!" the three heads barked in agreement, and the demigods laughed.
Needless to say, it turned out to be a wonderful day for both, Cerberus and he demigods.
