Old Hearts Beat

Mafia. In the ancient language of the skeletons, it meant family. Skeleton family called themselves mafias and the head of these mafias were the dons. My father was the first skeleton to make a mafia with monsters other than just skeletons. He'd been a kind man with a kind soul who wanted to help everyone. The next heir, my brother Don Gaster saw the mafia in another light though. Mere pawns in his game. He killed our father for the title, and the word mafia fell to ruin. In the 1920s Don Gaster attempted to spread his control to the human city of Ebbot. Papyrus and I thought we had no choice but to follow.. until I met an honest gal named Delilah. In order to protect her, I cast a spell to rid the world of the Don, sacrificing myself in the process. By the time I do return, I doubt she'll still live, but at least I know that Papyrus protected her in a safer world..

94 years later

I could feel a large magic source calling to me, leading me. I had to follow it. I got out of my race car bed and slipped on my boots. I grabbed my scarf and even pulled out my pistol.. just in case. It's been 94 years since I've had to use any sort of gun. Those horrible days in Don Gaster's mafia were long since over. After Sans sealed them away, no other mafias came to the city. I protected Delilah as Sans would have wanted, made friends over the years, learned to live a honest life and I liked it this way. When Delilah did pass, of natural causes, I met a child and their friends who helped me in my grief over both my brother and Ms. Delilah. I digress. Tucking the gun away, I left my home and followed the magic source to Ebbot City Park. Where the final battle had been.. I usually avoided this place. I needed to find the source though. Hesitantly I walked through the grass. Then I saw it. A blue ball of energy. "SANS..?"

🌟🌟🌟

I woke up in a confused state. How much time has passed? What was the year? Where was I? Where was Papyrus? Delilah? I looked around for anything familiar. Everything was familiar. "the park.. course i'd end up back here." I adjusted my fedora. It was night, everyone was probably asleep. Was Papyrus at our family home? Was he even still in Ebbot? I took out a cigar and lit it. "wonder if this place still got payphones.." I needed to find out the year. I need to know how long it's been. I started towards the parks exit. If I remembered correctly, there was a bar 5 blocks down. Should still be open. First thing I noticed. Cars changed alot since the last time, which means alot of time passed. Second thing I noticed. Suits are no longer in style. I'm going to have to change my wardrobe. I ditched my fedora immediately. Is cash still the same as the 1920s? Screw it, stores have calenders too.

🌟🌟🌟

I came out of the shop in a white 'T-shirt', blue 'jacket', black shorts, and pink 'slippers'. That's what the shop keep called em. At least she took the money. That was good. What wasn't good was the time on the calendar I'd bought. 94 years.. it's been 94 years.. Delilah.. probably wasn't alive anymore.. I sighed deeply. Payphone. Shoulda asked about a payphone. I started walking, looking around for a payphone. "... no more payphones? seriously?" I externally groaned and took a seat on the closest bench. I needed to think about my next moves here. "ok, ok. relax pal. tracking people down was your specialty. it's just gonna take a bit of time.." I buried my face in my hands. I wanted my bro. I missed him so much. I need Papyrus. Someone tugged at my sleeve, while a kind voice asked. "Sir, are you quite alright?" I looked up to a human kid and a goat lady. "having an off day 's all. just got to town an' i'm completely lost." I spun the story quick and it was sold quicker. "Can we take him home mom? He needs a place to stay!" Mom? Human and monster relations must have progressed over the years. "I.. suppose so.." She caved rather quickly and I found myself following them.

🌟🌟🌟

"W-who's that?" Someone asked as I started to wake up. "We don't actually know.. he needed a place to stay. "So long as he doesn't get in the way for cooking lessons, I don't care!"
"Is he coming today?"
"Said he had to check something first." I opened my sockets to the people from last night, a dinosaur monster, and a fish monster. "mm.. sorry.. didn' mean to intrude. 'll take my leave now, thanks for your hospitality.." I went to the front door and opened up to a red glove that was reaching for the handle and a white.. I don't even know. I looked up to the shocked expression of Papyrus. I felt the shock course through me too. Tears gathered in our eyes. "papyrus..?"
"SANS?" We said in unison, making us laugh. Papyrus picked me up and carried me back in the house. I let him do the talking. I missed his voice. "SANS, STARS IT'S BEEN SO LONG, BROTHER! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!" I nodded, hugging on to him. "i missed you too bro, i missed you too. i ain' leaving no more. he's gone for good pap, no more bad."
"THAT'S SO RELIEVING, SANS. I'M GLAD ALL THAT TIME AWAY WASN'T IN VAIN.. DELILAH HAD A GOOD, LONG LIFE, SANS. I PROTECTED HER LIKE YOU ASKED.."
"so she's.. i see. thank you for doing that for me, pap.."
"OF COURSE, BROTHER.."

🌟🌟🌟

It took some explaining. Apparently they were all Papyrus' friends, so we explained how I had to go away to protect those closest to me and I came back because the problem was dealt with. He explained that Delilah had been my girlfriend who passed away. I introduced myself to them and vice versa. I then proceeded to watch Papyrus cook. It was an experience in itself. Papyrus didn't live in the family home, as I'd expected, he lived in Delilah's old house. "i have so many memories in this place.."
"IT WAS IN HER WILL THAT I GET IT UNTIL YOU RETURN. IT IS YOURS." Papyrus stated. "it is hers. it'll always be hers."
"SO, HOW FAST DO YOU THINK YOU CAN LEARN THE CUSTOMS OF THE PRESENT DAY?" I shrugged. "depends on what they are." Someone knocked on the door. "I.. THAT'S NOT ANY OF MY FRIENDS." I opened the door to a young girl, about 18. "Heya, Sans. It's me.. Delilah.."
