How far? (XReader, LOTR)
"How far to Bree?" You curiously asked as you brushed back a piece of hair, stepping over a rock to avoid losing your footing.
Aragorn gave a slight chuckle, shaking his head. "I've already told you Y/N. And twice, we've got five miles left ahead."
"Five miles?" You complained with a groan of disappointment. "I may have large feet, but short legs make it harder to walk Elessar."
"Would you like me to carry you then? You are small after all, I could easily fit you in my arms." He teased with a grin.
You blushed, quickly nodding to tell him no. "And be seen as weak, no thank you." You snorted stubbornly.
"Alright, then you walk." He said with a shrug, carrying on. "But don't expect me to wait up." The Ranger added lightly as a small smile appeared on his lips.
The sky slowly began to darken with clouds and wet spatters fell on your skin- rain... You pulled up your hood, doing your best to keep up with Strider. The mud squishing in between your toes, and making it easier to slip.
"Elessar," You called, causing him to stop. "I may need your-assistance after all, I-I cannot keep up."
He gave a laugh, offering you his hand. "We are almost to the gates. But if you are sure- I will still extend my help."
"Please." Came your fervent reply as you took his hand. Steadying yourself. "The mud is making me fall."
"Afraid to break an ankle?"
You frowned at that as he picked you up, adjusting you in his arms and making his way to the gates once more. "No." You retorted. "Far from it in fact, but it is not safe to be injured all the way out here. Plus, to be honest. Your strides are not easy to keep up with and my feet had already given up on me."
Another chuckle came from Aragorn. "Well they do call me Strider for a reason I suppose." He stated, stopping to knock on the tall, wooden gate. The entry way to the town of Bree.
"Yes?" The old gatekeeper grunted, glancing up through the small peephole.
"Tis Strider and his companion, nothing more. We wish to go to the inn."
The elderly man rose a brow. "Which of your friends is with you this time Ranger?" He asked. "Last time the one caused enough chaos for a season."
You gave Aragorn a sheepish look. "Blame the ale, okay. I, wasn't entirely me." You whispered.
"Just a Halfling this time Garon, they needed my assistance." He replied, not telling the whole truth to cover you.
Garon gave a slight nod of approval, unlocking the gate and cracking it open . Enough for the both of you to pass through. "Go on then, before I change my mind and report you." He huffed.
"You have my thanks." Elessar said gratefully, shifting you a bit as he let you down. "Y/N, you walk from here." He added, telling you so.
The both of you soon got into the town, locating the inn: The Prancing Pony.
"What are we doing here?" You asked. "I thought we were going to the Short Pail."
Strider shook his head. "Not this time, we have to meet someone here." He replied, letting you in first.
You dropped your hood, shaking off water from your clothes. "Oh?"
"Two Hobbits, your kind. They're from the Shire, Gandalf was supposed to come in my place but he is currently unable to keep to his commitment."
"Alright then, now what?" You asked.
"We wait."

{A few weeks later, in Rivendell..
It was peaceful and quiet, though inside. You were not, as you were anxiously awaiting the council's decision.
"How far?" A voice gently asked from behind, startling you out of your thoughts.
"Hmm?" You questioned, turning around to see the Grey Wizard standing there.
"How far Y/N, how far are you willing to go? You want to provide aid on this quest, But to do so you have to be willing to give everything up. There's no fate sealed that you will come back."
"Me?" You said slowly, but with confidence just the same. "I'm willing to give my life if that's what it takes. I want to see the Shire free and my friends safe."
Gandalf gave a nod of approval, smiling softly down at you. "We'll need that sort of courage on this quest." He replied. "If you keep it up, you'll go far on this journey."
"So, I can go?" You eagerly asked.
He gave a slight chuckle in response. "Yes, the more the merrier. Plus, plus I think, there's some purpose for you yet."
"And besides, the world needs more people like you"...
