Just a Study Buddy (Draco X Hermione) (old)
(A/N: I don't personally ship these two but it's not a bad ship in my opinion. Also Ron is like an older brother to Hermione here and doesn't act like a jerk. Requested by ChoHeesoo go check them out if you want to. They are a great person.)
(First person: Hermione's PoV)
I was reading a book in the library about mythical creatures. Professor Snape gave us the oddest homework even though he was just subbing for Professor Lupin. He wants us to write about werewolves?! We haven't even got to that part yet. Sometimes I wonder if Harry's bitterness towards him isn't just him holding a grudge against the professor because his dad and Professor Snape were rivals when they came to Hogwarts. I let out a sigh but at the corner of my eye, I saw movement. I felt curious and turned my head to get a better view of the person but I only saw pale blonde hair. I could only think of one person who had pale blonde hair. Draco Malfoy. Why is he here? I wondered. I closed my book and got up to where he was. I peeked from a bookshelf and saw Draco with a book and some papers on the table where he was sitting at. He appeared to be struggling with something because I heard him muttering some words before swearing and muttering, "No, that's not good enough." Was he struggling with...homework?
I bit my lip. Should I help him? I wondered. I know I couldn't let anyone struggle with homework but he's Malfoy. He might call me a Mud-Blood again. I was lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice him get up. I squeaked and almost fell. I froze there, waiting for him to notice me. He didn't, thankfully. He just cleaned up his area and walked out of there. I noticed that he was making sure that nobody was there. He just didn't see me that is. I went back to my table with what I just saw on my mind. What was Malfoy doing there? Was he struggling? I thought as I opened up my book again. I went back to doing my homework for Professor Snape.
After a while, I went back to the common room where I saw Ron and Harry playing chess. Or at least Ron was. Harry was still struggling on it, poor him. "Oh hey Hermione!" Ron looked up from the board and waved at me. "Hey," I said and went up to them. "Hanging in there?" I teased Harry and he gave me an irritated look. "First quidditch practice now suffering at chess. Will this torture ever end?" He asked, a bit exaggerated. "I thought you love quidditch?" I asked, worried. Is this the same Harry we know?? "Yeah but with the hard training that Wood makes us do, it tires me out," Harry explained. Oh thank god. He's just tired today, I thought. "Well you need to take it easy," I said. "Says you," Ron muttered while nudging one of the chess players onto a checkered pieces. I turned to look at him. "What?" I asked, softly. Harry edged away from me. Ron looked back at me. "Umm don't get the wrong idea but...you yourself haven't exactly been taking it easy. You seem more tired than usual as well," he explained. "I DON'T NEED YOU TO WATCH OVER MY SLEEPING SCHEDULE!" I yelled at him. "Ok ok. Geez, I'm trying to be the bigger person here and help out a friend," Ron muttered. I huffed and folded my arms. "I mean...he's not wrong," Harry said timidly. "You too Harry?" I snapped. "Hey Hermione, we are just trying to help you out. No need to yell at us," Ron said. I took a deep breath and looked at them again. "I'm sorry. You're right I have been more tired than usual," I said. "It's no wonder you have been more snappy than usual. You just need more rest," Ron said recklessly. I turned my head at him again. "Uh no, not again," I heard Harry muttered.
After arguing with Ron for a while and Harry trying to be the peacemaker, I went up to the girl's dormitory room and got behind my changing curtains to quickly change into my sleeping robes. Ron was sadly right. I was bone tired and need to rest. I heard Lavender and Parvati giggling in the corner probably in some gossip or whatever. I can never understand those girls. I sat down on my bed and stared at the corner, thinking of what I just saw in the library. This was the first time I ever saw Malfoy act so vulnerable and it was just for homework. I always thought he was the type of guy who doesn't care whether he does the homework or not. Apparently not. "Ooh whatcha thinking about Hermione?" Lavender asked suddenly. "Huh?" I jumped and turned to face her. "You seem to be in deep thought. Almost moony over something or someone. Is it a boy?" Lavender gasped. "Wha- no!" I said. Geez is that what they always think about? I wondered. "It better not be Ron if you are thinking about a boy," Lavender said. "Why not?" I asked. "Because she has a huge crush on him," cooed Parvati. "I do not! I-I'm just saying," Lavender stammered, blushing furiously. I could almost laugh. Ron with Lavender? Ha imagine. Ron is better off with someone else like...I dunno really, I thought. "A-anyway, what are you thinking about?" Lavender asked. "I'm not telling. It's an invasion of my privacy," I said. "Aww please?" Lavender begged, making puppy dog eyes. I shook my head and she pouted, "You're no fun." "Let's leave her to her thoughts. Anyway as I was saying about Professor Trelawney," Parvati said and they began a conversation that served me no interest and I tuned them out. I drifted off into an uneasy sleep.
I woke up with the usual mess of a hair. I think most girls have that same problem in the morning (Mood Hermione). I fixed it up and changed to my regular robes. I went downstairs to see Ron and Harry waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. "And she comes in last as usual," Ron teased. I swatted his arm. "Oh shut up Ronald, you try sleeping as a girl and see how you like it," I said in a teasing tone. "Phfft, as if that would happen," he said, rolling his eyes. (Hmmmmm 👀). "Hey we should get to breakfast," Harry said. The three of us went to breakfast and talked about the usual stuff. Quidditch, homework, trying to keep Harry safe from Sirius Black and other stuff. We finished breakfast but before we could go to class, I got pulled away to a small corner. By who? Draco Malfoy. "Listen quickly because I'm not repeating myself," he said. "Umm what?" I asked. "Look I wouldn't want to do this but I'm left with little choices. I need your help," Malfoy explained. "With what?" I asked. He seem to be struggling with what to say without making a complete fool of himself. Not like it was that hard for him. "With homework," he muttered. "Homework?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "Yes homework. I need help with it. Just if you agree, meet me in the library after classes," he said. "Why should I help you? What do I get out of this?" I asked skeptically. Malfoy went quiet for a moment. "I-I'll make a deal with you," he said. "Hmmm?" "You'll help me with homework a-and I won't call you Mud-blood for this year," he said. I thought about this. Last year, that name affected my mental health and almost spiraled me into depression if Ron, Harry and Hagrid weren't there to help me and if I agree to this, at least this year I won't have to hear that wretched name. "Ok but let me add on to the deal," I said, smirking for an idea came to my head. Malfoy looked confused. "If I agree to help you, you'll stop calling me Mud-Blood, stop insulting Ron's family and stop trying to make fun of Harry. Got that?" I said, smirking. "Just for this year?" He asked. "Sure we'll go that way," I said. "Fine deal. Remember library after classes," Malfoy said and left to go to his classes. I blinked and letting out a sigh. What a mess. At least I don't have to go back in time for this class, I thought.
I went through all of my classes and dropped off some books off. Ron asked me where I was going and I answered him with the library and he rolled his eyes. "Geez is that like your second home or something?" He teased and I swatted his arm. "I'll see you in a bit Ron," I said, waving behind me. He waved back. I went to the library, looking for the pale blonde boy. He better not trick me. If he does, I'll have to have a "talk" with him, I thought. Thankfully it wasn't a trick for I spotted Malfoy at a table with some books and paper. I sat across from him. "Guess you actually did show up," he said. "Of course I wouldn't miss the great Draco Malfoy being defeated by the plague known as homework," I smirked. "Shut up," he muttered. "So what do you need help with?" I asked. "Just some Defense against Dark Arts homework and Astronomy," he explained. Ok fairly easy, I thought. I brought out my astronomy book. "Ok we'll be going over some basics but you'll need to do the rest of it on your own at night," I explained and he nodded.
(Small time skip)
"Hey uh...thanks for the help," Malfoy said. "It's nothing," I said, packing up. "So same time and place tomorrow?" I asked and he nodded. I walked out of the library to the Griffindor common room and saw Ron and Harry doing their own homework. I peeked over their shoulders. Looks like Divination homework. "Not going to have a good week today are we?" I asked. Ron leaned back. "This homework is too tiring, might as well leave it alone and work on our other homework," he said. "That's not a great plan," I said but Harry shrugged. "Eh, you said it yourself. Divination is just full of wolly work," he yawned. "Quidditch match in a few days?" I asked and he nodded. "God, Wood is making us work our butts off. I want to win the cup this year too but sometimes I feel like he exaggerates too much. However nothing but a little more practice won't hurt," Harry explained. "Remember what I said about resting?" I said and Harry yawned, "Yeah yeah. I'll rest now if that'll make you happy." He got up and went to the boy's dormitory room. "So how was the library?" Ron asked smirking. "Huh?" I asked, facing him. "I heard from Lavender about a certain someone that might have eyes for someone," he teased. "I-It's not like that!" I stammered. "Uh Huh sure. If you do ever go that way, I might as well give them the shovel talk," Ron said. I swatted his arm. "Ron you just can't threaten people like that!" I snapped. "Ok ok. I was just joking. Anyway see you tomorrow," he said and got up to the boy's dormitory. I rolled my eyes. Who does he think he is? My brother? I thought. I let out a sigh. Eyes for someone, yeah I don't have time for love. Do I? My thoughts flickered to Malfoy but I shut them down immediately. No don't be stupid. Remember what he's done to us, I thought. I cleaned up after the boys. Tch they are always leaving a mess. Well time to head out for bed, I thought. I went up to the girls' dormitory room and quickly changed to go to sleep.
Then went on my new schedule. Wake up, eat breakfast, go to class, quickly do my own homework and help Malfoy study and finish his homework. We were getting closer each day. Malfoy isn't too bad, just has a foul mouth thanks to his family influence on their thoughts of muggle born and pure blood wizards and witches. I wonder what would it be like if he didn't have that influence. I suppose Harry and Ron would be friends with him and would even help each other out instead of being at each other's throats. And me? I tried not to think about without me turning into a blushing mess. There was some rumors around the girls about if I had a crush or not. Harry and Ron also keep asking me about that but after a couple of glares from me, they dropped it. I know that they probably won't be happy on who I keep hanging out with in the library. I myself haven't confirmed it until one day I was walking down the hallway to Potions class and I got tripped by a few Slytherins. They crackled and laughed in my face calling me names. I picked up my books and would have cried if there wasn't a voice that said, "Hey!" The Slytherins jumped and ran off quickly. I looked up to see Malfoy standing there, glaring at the direction where the Slytherins ran off. "Here let me help," he muttered as he helped me with my books. "Th-thanks," I said, hoping I wasn't blushing. Wait why am I blushing? I thought. "There we go. Now go in before Professor Snape takes points away from your house," Malfoy said which surprised me. Since when did he care about Gryffindor and our house points? I thought. He turned away but I caught a small blush on his pale face. Why is he blushing? I wondered. I waited a few seconds before entering because I didn't want people to get the wrong idea if I entered around the same time as Malfoy. That would raise some eyebrows. I caught myself looking at Malfoy's direction before catching myself in the act and went back to the lesson. After Potions class, Harry grabbed my arm and asked, "Why were you staring at Malfoy?" "Wha-?" I asked. "I'm serious. Is there something going on between you two or did something happen?" He asked. "Umm well you see..." I took a deep breath and met Harry's green eyes. "Promise not to tell Ron," I said. He blinked, "Why?" "Just promise!" "Ok ok. I won't." I told him about the library and my possible feelings for Malfoy. Harry looked a bit shocked. "I know you were acting different these days but I would have never suspected that," he said. "And possibly he might like me too, I'm not sure yet," I said. I explained about the hallway. "Hmmm that's a possibility though I would have never thought that Malfoy would have those types of feelings. Especially for someone who he thinks he's superior over," Harry remarked. "Kind of rude but not wrong," I said. "Hermione, just be careful and try not to blurt out anything stupid," Harry said. "I-I'll try not to," I said. We went to class. Later, I went to the library. I saw Malfoy but he had fewer books and papers around him. "What's this?" I asked. "It's just that with you helping me, I can finally understand what's going with the homework," he explained. "So how long will you need my help for?" I asked. Malfoy looked deep into my eyes. "As long as we'll need it for," he said. We both blushed and looked away from each other. I wondered what he was thinking.
(Draco's PoV)
Why am I thinking this way? How can I have fallen for Granger? When Pansy first pointed that I was acting odd, I shrugged it off. But then those library visits with Granger made me feel like I had butterflies in my stomach. Just seeing her made me nervous. Why? Crabbe and Goyle are kind of too dumb to be talking about feelings so I asked Pansy (without mentioning Granger of course) and she came up with the idea of that I'm in love. I told her no and that it must be her imagination but she asked Blaise and he said the same thing. They both asked who was it but I shut them down by not answering them. They didn't push though and I felt grateful for that but now I can't get that idea that I was falling for Granger. "Umm should we get started then?" She asked and I jumped. "S-sure," I said. She helped me study and found ways for me to understand the homework. She simply didn't give me the answers. She cleared a pathway for me to understand it more clearly. She truly is smart. I'm giving Granger a compliment? I know shocking right?
"Well, we are done," Granger said as I finished the final question. We both packed up but before she could leave, I called out to her. "Hey uh listen I appreciate this. I just wanted to thank you again for helping me," I said, hoping that I don't sound like an idiot. "It's no problem," Granger said softly. Our eyes met and we held our stare until she blushed and turned away. I was putting some books away when I heard a squeal. Oh no, I thought and turned to face Pansy. "Ooh I didn't know you had feelings for the Granger girl," she exclaimed. "I don't," I sneered but she laughed. "Keep saying that to yourself. You know she's not my favorite person in this world but I kind of ship," Pansy smirked. "Please don't spread that rumor around," I begged and she laughed. "Of course, I'm not letting my ship sink," and she skipped away. Why does my life have to be this hard? I thought.
(Hermione's PoV)
(Yes I am aware that Draco's PoV was short 😓)
Harry was waiting outside the library with a smile on his face. "So how did it go?" He asked and I swatted his arm. "Where you spying on us?" I asked angrily but he shook his head. "I just came into the library for a book and I spotted the back of your hair. Thought I'd just wait out here for you and well talk about this new Malfoy," he said. "Tch, there's nothing to talk about," I said and he rolled his eyes. "Keep saying that to yourself Hermione," Harry laughed. "I'm just helping him with homework. Nothing more," I snapped. Is he though?
(Nobody's PoV)
Little did those two know, they were thinking of each other as they drifted off to the land of dreams.
(Done! I didn't want to make this longer than it already is so there is that. Just some Draco X Hermione fluff for people who ship them. Again I myself don't ship them but I can't deny it's cute. At least this one-shot is. Cya in the next one -Flare)
