Serana- Human Shield (a)
Skyrim One Shot
Small whispers of smoke escaped from Serana's skin as you and her danced between the solemn trunks of The Pale's sad trees. You knew how harsh the sun was to her, a mere hour or two of exposure and she would be little more than a pile of ash on the floor. Winterhold was not that bad, the sky may be shrouded in a dense mist of clouds and ash, the most prominent food may have been a musky cabbage soup, but, it meant Serana could actually have some form of life.
You watched as, with unmatched grace she darted from tree to tree, only stopping when she caught sight of her target, from the cover of the trunk she gestured for you to stand next to her.
"There." She pointed at a keep in the distance, dark mages and necromancers patrolled around the outside, accompanied by their fiendish thralls and demonic conjurations.
"I'll take the left entrance you take the right?" Mentally you were preparing for the attack, mapping out their patrol routes, fortification weak points and any stragglers.
"Or..." She started sprinting forwards, using her flowing cape to shield her face from the harsh sunlight "... You stay here and try not to get injured, whilst I run in and kill everyone?"
"Serana!" Your hands failed you as you attempted to grab onto her, in an instant she had disappeared. Your speed paled in comparison to hers, within mere seconds she was little more than another figure that lined the walls of the keep, only hers had a very prominent silhouette and was crouched in preparation behind a crumbling wall of coarse rocks. It took a fair amount of time to catch up behind her. "What in the name of Molag Bol do you think you are doing? You could have gotten yourself killed already!" She could not help but chuckle to herself, even though she had been tucked away in Dimhollow crypt for millennia, sometimes she acted like an irresponsible 20-year-old. "This is not funny! Do you realise what your father would do to me if something happened to you?" She showed an apparent lack of care for your concerns.
"Okay fine, do you know what happens to you if something happens to you?" Her left eyebrow raised itself in confusion.
"If you die Serana, I'll kill you."
"Oh please, I will not die."
"What makes you so sure of that?"
"I am a pure-blooded vampire? Better speed, strength and agility, greater than even yours dragonborn."
"I have killed plenty of vampires in my time. It does not mean that you won't slip up or..." She placed a cold finger onto your lips.
"I'm sorry Serana... You know that I love you, you know that I cannot live without you, I gave up my life for you, that can't be in vain."
A chillingly hollow voice beckoned out from atop the fortress.
"We do not take kindly to intruders." A hooded figure stood atop a tower, the wind rushing through his dark and bloodstained robe, in his decrepit and withered hand, a twisted staff formed of bone and gristle was clutched tightly, before you could blink a storm of ice shards rained upon you both, you crouched into as small a ball as you could but Serana did not. She threw herself on top of you, you could feel the impact of the bolts through her body, each one sent a shockwave that almost knocked you off your feet. The hooded figure cackled and laughed as Serana slumped on top of you, her Amber eyes shot open and as if she had come back from the dead, she exhaled with vigour.
"We're also more resilient than humans." She smirked and winked at you before pushing herself off and dusting off her old tattered clothing.
"Come on old man..." A red and ominous glow enveloped her hands and she bared her fangs, sharper than any blade than Tamriel had ever seen and ran into the keep.
