Jake Brockman- Christmas Tradition (h)

Outnumbered One Shot

Meeting the parents was always nerve wracking – there would always be the worry that they wouldn't like you, or not think that you were right for their child.

It would be daunting in any normal situation, but you were extra nervous as you were going to be spending Christmas with your boyfriend and his family.

You were yet to meet any of his family, purely due to the fact that schedules had never allowed it, but they had all heard a lot about you from him.

You had met Jake whilst you were at university with him, and as the both of you had moved away for university it hadn't yet been feasible for you to go and meet his parents.

The two of you had only been together for a few months but as you were unable to travel home for Christmas, Jake's parents had invited you to stay with them over the holidays.

It was a big offer from two people that you had never met but Jake had encouraged you to take them up on it, so you had.

The two of you had taken the train back to Jake's hometown and then a taxi to his house.

Everyone had been out when you both got back so you'd spent your time unpacking.

You sighed as you sat down on Jake's bed. "What do I do if they don't like me?"

He chuckled, putting away some of his shirts. "They wouldn't have asked you here if they didn't."

"They've never met me."

"But they have to put up with me talking about you."

You smiled at him. "And then they invite me into their home for Christmas?"

"Of course," he stated as he crouched down in front of you. "They know that you're it for me right now and they want to do everything they can to get to know you."

The door opened downstairs, so Jake shot you a smile before grabbing your hand and practically dragging you down the stairs.

Jake's Mum Sue smiled at you and then pulled you into a hug. "Oh Y/N it is so nice to meet you."

They both knew that they didn't need to introduce themselves because Jake talked to you about them probably as much as he spoke to them about you.

It was clear how much Jake loved his family – even if he didn't let them know it all the time.

You returned her smile as she pulled away from you. "Thank you so much for offering to let me stay here."

Sue dismissed your comment with a wave of her hand. "Oh, don't be so formal. Jake is smitten with you and what better way to get to know someone than on Christmas."

Your smile grew at her words as Pete stepped forward.

"It is really great to meet you Y/N," he stated as he hugged you.

Jake chuckled as he watched you hug his Dad with a smile on your face.

"And I believe that the trip to the Christmas market is in order," Sue spoke up.

Your face practically lit up as you smiled over at Sue. "Really? I was telling Jake how much I've wanted to go after he showed me your pictures from last year."

Jake chuckled, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. "Mum has been so excited about being able to take you with us."

Within the hour the whole family were walking around the market with smiles on their faces.

It was so incredible how the market took over the whole city centre, the 'oldy worldy' stalls with the German feel and people selling handmade presents.

The lights gave such a Christmassy feel causing you to smile as Christmas really was your favourite time of year.

Jake had run off somewhere with Ben, the two of them mucking around, and Pete had stopped at a stall with Karen when she had seen something she liked.

Sue came up next to you and linked her arm through yours.

"You look like you're in your element," she told you with a smile.

"Oh definitely – we used to have one of these in my town, but it stopped happening a few years ago," you explained as the two of you walked along. "And when Jake showed me the pictures, I told him how much I'd love to come here."

She smiled, hugging your arm gently. "I think you are perfect for my son."

"That's so sweet of you," you answered her as your heart warmed. "And I honestly can't thank you enough for opening up your home to me, I know Jake and I haven't been together for very long, but I can't imagine not being with him."

"I know, I don't think I've ever heard him talk about someone so much."

Jake appeared in front of you both suddenly, along with Ben who was chuckling away.

"Mind if I steal her away Mum? I want to show her something."

Sue nodded, hugging you and then Jake took your hand.

The two of you walked through the market, enjoying each other's company and the atmosphere of your surroundings.

"I thought you wanted to show me something," you joked with your boyfriend.

Jake chuckled, leaning down to kiss your cheek. "I wanted to show you the market and spend time with you – you've were with my Mum for over an hour."

"I guess it's safe to say they like me."

Jake stopped walking, standing in front of you with his hands resting on your waist. "They love you Baby," he stated. "Just as much as I do."

"I love you too."

He smiled, kissing you gently. "This is the beginning of a new Christmas tradition for us both."
