Caleb Rivers- Stress (c)

Pretty Little Liars One Shot

You tried to not cry in public, however it sometimes wasn't possible. Everything had become too overwhelming, so although you were in public, in the corner of the local coffee shop, you couldn't help the tears escaping your eyes. It'd be more embarrassing to leave now, so you decided to ride out the emotional tidal wave, letting yourself cry over your coffee, using napkins to try and hide the tears.

Desperately you hoped for no one you knew to come in. You did your best to hide in the corner, but if someone came in, they may notice the crying mess that was you. Sadly, your wishes didn't come to fruition. You saw someone from your school come in through the doors, making your heart stop. It was Caleb Rivers, a guy who was in several of your classes, and although he seemed friendly enough, you wouldn't class yourself as friends.

You hoped he would order his drink, not give your corner of the room a glance and just leave. He didn't. As he ordered his drink, he turned towards you. At first, he shot you a smile, but as he saw your tears, he looked concerned. He turned away. The barista handed him his to-go cup; he didn't leave the coffee shop. He walked towards you, stopping at your table.

"Y/N, are you alright?" He asked.

You tried to feign a smile and nod your head, but the tears continued to stream. Caleb took the seat opposite you, a concerned expression on his face.

"What's wrong?"

You took a deep breath so that your words wouldn't be shaky.

"School," you whispered. "I'm failing Chemistry and if I can't get at least a B, I can't get a scholarship, which is the only way I'm getting to college. My future is crumbling because I can't figure out those stupid formulas."

He gave you a warm smile.

"You're smarter than most people at school, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it and get your scholarship. Even if it doesn't, college isn't everything. You may have been told it is, but there are many people who end up successful and happy without it. There's no point stressing yourself over it, life is finite, what's the point in worrying through it all?" He shrugged. "Can I give you some advice?"

You nodded your head.

"Never take life seriously. No one ever comes out alive anyway."

With that he floated from the conversation like a passing breeze. He wasn't a conversationalist, but he knew just what to say when it was needed most.
