Newt- Time (h)
The Maze Runner
Free time was somewhat of a luxury in the Glade.
Time where you weren't pressured to be doing something.
Time where you could try and gain some of your sanity back.
It was easy to forget yourself, the person you had grown to be in the Glade considering you couldn't even remember the person you were before.
Not remembering the outside world was unnerving but then again you didn't remember what is was like so there was nothing to unnerve you.
However, your brain liked to come up with scenarios that could have happened outside of the walls despite there being no way for you to actually find out.
Whenever you had free time, it ended in you worrying about if you would ever leave or how long you all could even survive within the walls.
You had taken yourself up to the lookout, away from most of the Gladers, a place where your thoughts would manifest.
In a fashion most like your boyfriend's, he had followed you up upon seeing you go there as he was fully aware that you only went up there when you needed to think.
"Love? Come on, you need to talk to me."
He came to stand by you, wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you into his side.
"You know it's better if you get these thoughts out."
You still stayed silent, opting to cuddle up to his side as if doing so would erase the thoughts.
"Please Y/N. You know how I can't handle you like this."
"How long do you realistically think we can spend inside here?"
Newt looked down at you, surprised at your words.
He pulled you into a proper hug before pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
"No one thought we would get to three years."
You sighed and looked up at him. "But how much longer can we actually stay here? We can't live our lives out here Newt, that's not healthy."
Newt mimicked your sigh. "Love I don't know what to tell you – would I want to raise a family here? No. Do I want to die here? No, of course I don't," he explained to you whilst looking into your eyes. "But we don't have any other option."
"We need to get out of here."
"You know, better than anyone, that there isn't a way yet. We have mapped every single bloody inch of that blasted maze, and still no way out."
You buried your head into his chest, wanting to cry but still wanting to keep up the façade of that you were okay.
"Love, if there was a way out, I would have taken you away from here," he whispered into your hair as he tightened his arms around you.
Your arms were around his waist and his around your shoulders, gripping you as if you would crumble when he let go.
"I want to get out of here with you, start a life together, have a family – be the people we are supposed to be," he kept his voice at a whisper, as the words were only to be heard between the two of you. "We had lives outside of here, and we may not remember them as well as there being a chance that we never will," he spoke in a gentle tone. "But the only god damn thing I am grateful for of this place is that it gave me you."
Newt gently pressed another kiss to your hair, allowing for you to keep him as your support system – one you never wanted to go away.
"And you are the single most important thing in my life."
