Chapter 14: The tea

"Nothing is impossible when it comes to love."

It didn't matter how tightly Ash pulled the duvet over his head, the persistent ringing on his doorbell refused to cease. He eventually succumbs to the invasion to his sleep, as he whips back the sheets, huffing with annoyance. "Ok, ok, I'm coming." He shouts, not even bothering to put the chain on the door, which he usually did religiously. He opens it to see Lucy looking annoyed. "Lucy… what do you want? What time is it? Is it work? Is there a problem at work?"  He now pulls the door fully open to address the visitor.

"Why haven't you answered any of my texts? I left three voicemails." She begins, inviting herself in and closing the door behind her.

"What?...I've been asleep. What is it? Is it about the coffee bar?" Ash asks again.

"Forget about work." Lucy dismisses the words with a wave of her hand, before taking hold of Ash's and pulling him towards the kitchen.

"Hey…" he begins to protest as he is pulled along behind her, finally finishing off on a seat at his tiny kitchen table.

Lucy turns her back on him and opens a cupboard over her head, pulling out two mugs, which she places on the counter top. "You spill the tea, whilst I make some." She adds, as she gets to, filling up the kettle with water before switching it on.

"Tea?" Ash says, still a little confused by the sudden intrusion to his lay in on his day off.

"The date Ash. I need to know about your date." Lucy felt like she was on the cusp of throttling him. "Are you being this blasè just to wind me up?"

"It wasn't a date…" he begins. But is halted by a hand being held up to his face.

"I'll be the judge of that. Now tell me. How did it go?"

Ash looks up to the ceiling to recall, as if it were a dream, even though it really felt like one. "We just talked mainly." He utters in a far away voice."

"And…" Lucy prompts

"We may have kissed." Ash now looks at Lucy, who for some reason, had one hand over the other, keeping her mouth from emitting a squeal.

"Really? Ok, I need more details!"

"Nothing special Lucy. He took me for a ride on his motorbike to a place he goes to, to be alone he said. We sat there, talking about ourselves. About seeing where this connection would take us, we looked up at the stars and…he kissed me." He tries his best not to sound affected by the words he was saying, but not even Ash could not stop the smile spreading across his face.

"Ohh my God. My heart!" Lucy grabs the material of her jumper covering her chest, her eyes on the cusp of tears. "That is…"

"Too good to be true right?" Ash smiles weakly. "It was an amazing moment, but I'm not stupid. I know who he is and I know who I am."

"What do you mean?" Lucy questions, her heart only recovering from the moment before it is being attacked by someone else's potential heartbreak.

"I am a realist Lucy. A relationship would never work between us, not really. No matter how much I want it to."

"Stop right there!" Lucy puts a finger to his lips. "Nothing is impossible when it comes to love."

"How about improbable," Ash says with a smirk.

"Well you've beaten those odds already. You have him Ash. You hold the key to the heart of one of the most handsome men in music. You Ash. No one else. And now you say you are gonna walk away from him?"

"What if I hold him back? Or worse, what if we get found out? I mean, did you know he was into guys?" Ash looks at Lucy for a response.

"True fans of UC would not care about that." Lucy says, trying to sound reassuring.

"What about everyone else?"

"Since when did you care about the opinion of everyone else?" Lucy replies, now sounding annoyed and taking Ash by surprise.

"It's not about me. It's about him." He insists.

Lucy takes her hands and covers one of Ash's hands with them, trying her best to sound calm. "Just answer me this. Do you like him?"

Ash doesn't answer straight away. Not because he didn't know what to say, he knew exactly what he wanted to say. Of course he liked him. It was a no brainer, but should he like him? That was the real question. "If he were a regular guy, it would be easier."

"He is a regular guy. Just a famous regular guy. That's all." Lucy insists. "Look, I just don't want you to end something which hasn't even started. Perhaps you need to see him again. Maybe then, you'll know for sure."

"Maybe you're right." Ash sighs. I should think of something. What could I do? It not as if we can pop down the street"

Lucy ponders for a minute before she has it. "Pizza!"

"What?"

"Pizza!...even I know he likes pizza. Mushrooms are his favourite topping.  And you make a great homemade pizza Ash. "

"So...?"

Lucy rolls her eyes. "Make him a pizza. Here"

Ash now gets it. "Oh yeah! That's actually a good idea, but my place…"

"Well if bringing him here is too much, then just use work as a base again."

"Mmm" Ash says in thought.

"Promise me something though." Lucy says, with a more serious look on her face.

"What?"

"Whatever you decide between you and Luca. Make sure you are both doing it for the right reasons and that is for yourselves.  No one else."

Ash nods slightly as he sees the kettle pouring steam from its funnel. "About that tea…
