Sweetface
Loading the dress into the car was a bit of a struggle; in addition to trying not to bang my head against the roof thanks to the headpiece. The people from Vogue had a short video interview with me, took some photos and left. Now in the car it was just me and the driver; Cinna and everyone else following behind in another car.
As our limo battled rush hour New York traffic, I called Damon, my boyfriend.
Since I left high school, I hadn't been keeping in touch with my classmates but a few years ago, an old classmate named Alex Garcia was in town; I bumped into him when trying to dodge paparazzi in Starbucks.
We talked for a while. I learned that he moved to Florida and was working in finance. He had come to New York for business and to visit family.
Back in high school we went on one awkward date in tenth grade and haven't talked since. Alex used to have the reputation of "toxic-player jock" in school. I didn't really like him, but for old times sake I agreed to get drinks with him that night, two years ago.
I went to the restaurant all ready for a night of fun, but half an hour later, he never showed. He didn't even answer any of my calls. I told him multiple times that I had a lot going on, and he just ditched me. I was kind of pissed but food always made me feel better so I went inside to inquire if my table was still available.
Halfway through my meal a leather jacket clad man, with dark ebony hair and the bluest eyes I had ever seen showed up. He asked if the empty chair across me was occupied. I shook my head. At this point, even if Alex had come, I would have told his sorry ass to get out. The guy sat down and we talked, laughed and learned many things about each other.
His name was Damon Salvatore. He was a rising actor and model and his favorite drink was bourbon. He was extremely polite, the whole night, even when I got a little drunk.
After that night, I decided to make time in my busy schedule for him. We hung out more and more and one day we were at a bar together and he abruptly leaned in and kissed me. I remember he smelled like bourbon and leather. That now-familiar smell always makes me feel so comfortable.
All the celebrity gossip news stations got ahold of that moment and we were the big new "couple", even though we weren't technically together. I was used to being shipped with random famous men by fans, even if we just took a picture together or hung out, but I wasn't mad about the rumors at all and that was when I realized that I actually liked him.
We started dating and have been together for almost two years. But two years is a lot and we've run into problems, he can get kind of clingy and overprotective sometimes, and we barely meet anymore, but in my opinion, relationships get tough and if you can't handle the bumps in the road, then you're just desiring the idea of a relationship, not an actual one.
As I was waiting for him to pick up, I gazed happily at his goofy contact picture. I was at one of his comic cons and when I reached, he was in the middle of talking about his character in the new season of The Vampire Diaries, but in the middle of talking, he saw me and made a face(shown below), which got quite a few "awws" in adoration from the crowd. Sure we ran into many problems, and he disliked just about everyone I knew, but his sense of humor and golden grin always put a smile on my face..
I tried calling Damon but no answer. I called again and on the third ring he picked up.
"Hi babe!"
"Hello Sweetface." To be honest I'm surprised he answered the call.
"Do you want me to pick you up or are you meeting me?"
"No Sweetface I'll meet you on the pink carpet. Can't wait to see you baby. " he replied.
Finally we reached the museum. Through the tinted windows no one could see me while I was touching up my makeup and hair one last time before the cameras. I already saw a bunch of other people out there so I was ready. However Damon wasn't. He wasn't here yet and I didn't see his car. He was late. As always. I had to go down the carpet with him otherwise people would think we broke up. We were the so called "power couple of the year"; getting together with Damon gave him more acting jobs and "Damina" gave us both more publicity. Not only has our relationship been a wonderful ride for us emotionally but it was also great for our bank accounts.
But the Met Gala was the biggest party of the year. If fans didn't see Damina together, they would jump to conclusions and overthink everything. I don't blame them though. I consider myself as the CEO of overthinking.
Five minutes later he wasn't there. But I had to get down, the press was waiting for me. I took a deep breath and stepped out of the car and into the net of prying eyes and flashy cameras.
