The days after Halloween were somewhat uneventful. Annabeth and I went on a few unscheduled dates, but besides that my days were filled with hanging out with Grover and binge watching shows endlessly.
After no contact with Chiron for what seemed like weeks, I was summoned into his offices, which I was somewhat angry about as it meant I had to wake up early.
The chirpy receptionist greeted me as I stuffed my hands in my sweatshirt pocket and took a seat in the waiting room next to some other people.
Chiron's waiting room were always filled with the strangest people. He always met with his clients and potential ones, and some of them were real nut jobs, but that's expected in New York.
I was quickly called into his office so I left the waiting room and followed Chiron's personal assistant into his office.
Chiron's office was large and had a beautiful view of the city. It had a desk, many awards all placed neatly on a shelf, and tons of memorabilia of people he'd produced, mine among it.
"Percy, my boy, sit down," Chiron greeted as he ushered to the empty seat across from him. I sunk into him and groggily rubbed my eyes. "I'm sorry for the wait, I hope it wasn't too long."
"It was fine," I answered, "although I would rethink signing some of those people. The guy who could play the flute with his nose creeped me out."
Chiron laughed lightly as he folded his hands on his desk. "I assume you know why I called you in today."
Although I was pretty sure I knew the answer, I was still nervous. Being called in to speak to Chiron often reminded me of being called to the principal's office, something I was quite familiar with.
"Uh...yes, I'm fairly sure," I admitted. "My relationship with Annabeth Chase. I think you and her manager should step back a little as the plan is working flawlessly. I think having her handle it would work best—"
Chiron shook his head as I spoke and quickly interrupted me. "No, that's now what I summoned you here to talk about."
I raised an eyebrow. "It's not? Then...what do you want to talk about?"
"Your music, Percy," Chiron said sharply. I felt my face turn red. "You haven't released an album in more than a year! Your fans...they're growing restless. And you're losing them everyday you don't release new music."
"I know, I know!" I assured him. "But...it's been tough. I've been busy, uninspired. And I gained some new fans in this whole dating ordeal."
Chiron sighed as she glared down at the floor to compose himself. "I understand, but I'm suggesting a new album. Maybe you could create some sort of...renaissance with your music. A new album to draw back old fans and intrigue the new ones."
"I suppose you're right, but—"
"You have until the end of the year or your contract with us is gone," Chiron said sharply. My face drained of color. Before I could open my mouth to protest, Chiron spoke again. "I know this sounds harsh, and I'm sorry, but my boss, it's all his idea. We can't pay for new merchandise and promotions for you with nothing to promote. We're not making any money anymore off you."
I knew Chiron's boss. His name was Mr.D and he was practically handed this job. All he cared about was money, which he often spent on wine.
"I get it, and I'm sorry," I admitted. "I'm just...it's just hard to be inspired. I can't force it, you know? I'll...I'll really try, Chiron. I promise. This new album, it's going to be my best yet!"
Chiron nodded as he dismissed me from his office, his tone now more full of optimism.
And although I wanted to optimistic, I had no clue what I was going to do.
