Silent Night
"Why can't we get this damn thing to work?!" Chase yelled in irritation as he thrusted the wand into Jack's hands with an exasperated sigh, the male adjusting the the brim of his hat with an annoyed huff.
"Don't look at me, I'm not a fucking magician." Jack shrugged as he offered the wand to the others, all of them shying away from it.
"Schneep, Wilford and Marvin are all probably dead anyway." Chase muttered bitterly as he stuck his hands in his pockets dejectedly, his gaze fixated on his shoes.
"No, I'm not giving up!" Jack argued fiercely as he turned the wand over in his hands, unsure of what to do with it.
Jack held the wand the way Marvin always did, the Irishman's eyes closed in concentration as he tried to focus on making a portal appear.
"Jack, how-what the hell?"
Jack opened his eyes to see a portal start to appear in front of him, a triumphant grin lighting up his face.
"It's wide enough, I'm going in!" Chase yelled, darting through the portal with Dark while Jack focused on keeping the portal open.
"Jesus, this...is tiring." Jack grunted, feeling all energy draining from his body as he gripped the wand tighter.
"Guys? Hello?"
"Shut up and stay close." Dark hissed at Chase, his fingers curled into fists at his side as he glared at any demon that dared to get in their way.
"I think I see them!" Chase exclaimed, running towards a large group of demons with gunfire lighting up the center of the horde.
"Vhat are ve going to do? You can't hold zhem off forever!"
"Schneep!" Chase shouted, hoping to gain the German's attention as he struggled to fight demons off of him so he could reach Schneep.
Dark's pale skin was illuminated with a vibrant blue and red aura as he punched through demons left and right, his pitch black eyes blazing with a rage Chase had never seen from the dark haired demon before.
"Chase? Marvin is hurt, get him out of here first!" Schneep called out, Dark easily making a path for them with Wilford's help.
Schneep held Marvin in his arms bridal style and kept his lab coat pressed over the magician's wound, a long scrape trailing down the doctor's face that steadily dripped blood down his cheek.
Chase carefully took Marvin from Schneep's arms, the male jogging back towards the portal with demons clawing at him.
"I-I can't keep the portal open much longer." Jack stammered, his body shaking as sweat beaded his forehead.
"C'mon Schneep and Wilford, the portal's closing!" Chase yelled through the portal, the Jim twins whisking Marvin away so he could be cared for.
As the portal started shrinking, demons tried crawling out to get to Jack, Dark pulling the demons back to keep them in their rightful dimension.
Wilford and Schneep limped out with Dark behind them just before the portal closed, both of them looking exhausted as they leaned on each other for support while Dark brushed imaginary dust off of his pristine suit.
"That was awesome!" Wilford exclaimed enthusiastically as he used his free hand to swipe a stray stand of hair out of his face, Dark smirking at the male.
"It vas...certainly something." Schneep admitted wearily, the German's gaze landing on Jack as he took a trembling step towards him.
"I..."
Schneep left Wilford's side and caught Jack before he passed out to keep him from hitting the floor, the doctor smiling slightly as he lifted Jack up in his arms.
"Schneep-"
"I can do zhis. Zhis is my job after all." Schneep interrupted Chase, carrying Jack to where Jackaboy-Man and Marvin were.
Soon the hero, the magician, and the Irish gamer were each lying in their own cots that were lined up horizontally next to each other, all of them draped with thin white blankets.
"They look so peaceful." The blue Jim twin remarked in a whisper, Schneep quietly moving between each male to make sure that their conditions were stable.
"We should all get some rest too, then we can see if Marvin can bring Robbie back and help us find Anti." Chase advised softly.
"You'll probably have to knock Schneep out if you want him to rest." The red Jim twin joked with a wink as he and his twin left Chase and Schneep alone.
"Doc, you need rest." Chase told Schneep lightly, placing a hand on the German's shoulder.
"Only vhen I am sure zhat zhey are okay." Schneep answered without hesitation as he took Jack's hand that was dangling over the side of the cot and delicately laid it across Jack's chest.
"They're fine, nothing can happen to them while they're sleeping." Chase assured Schneep, attempting to steer him towards the door.
"I can't risk losing zhem...zhey are my family." Schneep protested, the doctor returning his focus to the injured males.
"Fine, just...take care of yourself, alright!?" Chase sighed in defeat, patting Schneep's back as he tip toed out of the room so as to not wake the sleeping trio.
"No...no, no, NO!"
Schneep quickly darted to Jackaboy-Man's side and lightly shook him, hoping to wake the hero from his nightmare.
"Hey, it's okay, it's just a nightmare. You're okay." Schneep soothed Jackaboy-Man, sitting in an old metal folding chair by the hero's bed as he sang him a German lullaby from his childhood.
"Guten Abend, gut' Nacht
Mit Rosen bedacht
Mit Näglein besteckt
Schlüpf unter die Deck'
Morgen früh, wenn Gott will
Wirst du wieder geweckt
Morgen früh, wenn Gott will
Wirst du wieder geweckt."
Schneep let out a quiet sigh of relief as Jackaboy-Man's eyes fluttered shut, the German feeling exhausted as he reclined his head back to look at the ceiling and let his eyes droop shut for a rest.
English translation of the song:
"Good evening, goodnight,
Covered with roses
Adorned with thorns
Slip under the covers
Tomorrow, if it is God's will,
Will you wake again
Tomorrow, if it is God's will,
Will you wake again."
