Holiday Horror
"Jesus, I forgot how nightmarish this place is."
Marvin released Jack's hand as they skidded to a stop outside of the portal before it slowly closed behind them, the Irishman looking around at his surroundings as an icy fear settled in the pit of his stomach.
The group had arrived outside of what looked like a small abandoned radio station that sat in the center of a destroyed city, soft Christmas music emanating from inside.
"We need to find Robbie and make sure he's okay." Marvin interjected gruffly as he strode off towards the radio station, the magician pushing through the clear double doors.
"What's his deal?" Jack whispered to Schneep curiously as the pair followed after Marvin with Jameson walking alongside them with his hands shoved into his pockets, Chase being unusually silent as he trailed after them.
"I don't know, he von't talk to me. He seems to especially hate me zhough for some reason." Schneep observed in a thoughtful tone tinged with bitterness.
"And Jackaboy-Man?" Jack added, gesturing to the unconscious hero in the German doctor's arms.
"I...I don't know vhat happened to him, he seemed embarrassed to say." Schneep admitted with a deep frown as he glanced down at the hero.
"Marvin came to get me vith Jackaboy-Man and Chase after I had my third mug of coffee. Jackaboy-Man seemed to be doing fine, at least until we went and got Jameson." Schneep explained.
"What changed with him?" Jack questioned worriedly.
"Marvin had done some kind of magic to stop the bleeding, but as evident, it isn't vorking vell. Vhen I tried to help, Marvin became angrier and demanded zhat I leave him alone so he could heal Jackaboy-Man himself with his magic." Schneep continued.
Jack opened his mouth to reply, but the words died in his throat when the four stepped inside the radio station.
The whole building was filled with zombies, a small group of humans that included the Jim twins, were desperately trying to fight them off to no avail.
"Who the hell decided that playing music would be a great idea?!" The Jim twin with the red shirt yelled over the sounds of zombie groans and panicked screaming, the twin armed with a simple pistol.
The twins were standing back to back defending each other from the horde, their expressions grim and eyes narrowed in concentration.
"I just wanted everyone to feel the Christmas spirit!" The other Jim twin with the blue shirt shouted back defensively as he cut off the head of a zombie with a machete.
"Well now they're all going to feel undead if we can't get rid of them!" The red clad Jim twin snapped angrily as he shot a zombie between the eyes.
"Need some help?" Marvin interjected with a flourish of his wand, creating a strong blast that sent the zombie horde a few feet back, giving the Jim twins room.
"We need Jackaboy-Man! Schneep can-"
"I don't want Schneep doing anything to him!" Marvin interrupted coldly as he quickly ducked to dodge a zombie that was lunging towards his face with its teeth bared.
"But he needs help fast!" Jack cut in as the blue clad Jim twin tossed him a pistol he could use to defend himself with.
"Not from Schneep. I'll help him later once we deal with this." Marvin replied firmly, the German doctor glaring at the magician in response.
"He's going to drain his powers very quickly if he insists on doing zhis. Besides, Jackaboy-Man is dying and needs help now." Schneep stated as he carefully laid the hero on the ground as far as he could get from the zombies.
"Jameson, I need your help. Jack, give me cover so I can vork." Schneep directed, the mute male jogging over to the pair.
"Don't worry Doc, I got your back." Chase assured the German as he started shooting down zombies with his own gun, Jack doing what he could to help.
"I said don't touch Jackaboy-Man!" Marvin yelled at Schneep as he blasted away another zombie, the magician pushing through the crowd to reach him.
"C'mon, c'mon," Schneep muttered under his breath as Jameson handed him the tools he needed to patch up the wound.
"Zhe only thing Marvin's spell did is slow down zhe bleeding, vhich doesn't help much at all." Schneep remarked as he used a pair of scissors to delicately ship away the blood stained part of the hero's suit so he could reach the wound.
"I SAID STOP!"
Marvin used his wand to send Schneep and Jameson flying across the room, the dapper male slamming into a wall while the doctor bowled over Chase, causing both men to hit the floor in a tangled mess that prevented Chase from keeping the zombies at bay.
"What the hell Marvin?!" Jack snapped angrily at the magician as he ran over to Jameson and helped him stand, Chase and Schneep scrambling to their feet as zombies rapidly started surrounding them.
Marvin didn't answer as he returned his focus to the remaining zombies starting to stumble towards the exit, the magician's eyes burning with rage as he raised his wand at their retreating forms.
"They're leaving, you should save your strength." The red Jim twin advised Marvin as he lowered his pistol to his side, the blue Jim twin tossing the bloody machete aside with a sigh of relief.
Marvin let out a huff of frustration as he reluctantly lowered his wand before stowing it away, his gaze fixated on the floor so he wouldn't look at anyone else.
"I have to get to Jackaboy-Man and-"
"No, I can't let you." Marvin cut Schneep off as he moved to stand between the doctor and the hero.
"Vhy? Do you just not trust me?" Schneep demanded angrily as he stomped up to the magician, his fingers curled into fists at his side.
"I can't trust science and medicine to save anyone I care about, not since-"
Marvin abruptly broke off as his voice cracked slightly with emotion, his head bowed in remorse.
"Since vhat?" Schneep prompted gently as he rested a hand on Marvin's shoulder, the German's eyes boring into the magician's.
"Let go of me, please." Marvin insisted quietly, his hand instinctively reaching for his wand while Schneep reached for the magician's hand to stop him.
Without warning, Marvin shoved Schneep away from him and created a portal behind the doctor, the German falling inside and disappearing out of sight as the portal closed behind him.
"I...I have to go." Marvin mumbled under his breath as he created another portal and darted through it, Chase's fingers brushing against Marvin's cape before the magician was gone.
The room fell silent as Jack stared at where Schneep was standing before he had disappeared, unable to believe what had just happened.
"Hey, um, I know that this is probably a bad time to say this," The red Jim twin spoke up tentatively.
"But I found Robbie, and I think he's dead. Again."
