Virgil's pov
"Roman...are you sure about this?" I asked quietly, hearing the sleeping Giant snoring on the couch.
Roman turned to look at me, slightly shrinking down into my jacket. He smiled and wrapped an arm around my shoulder.
"Fear not my Chemically Imbalanced Romance!" He smiled, looking down. "We are simple getting some essentials, and allowing you to be out for the first time!" He threw his hand in the air for dramatic effect.
I smiled slightly. I've always wanted to see the Giants world, but Patton, Logan, and Roman wouldn't let me till I was at least fourteen.
See, we're something called Tinies, or borrowers if your feeling fancy. Were tiny people, about five inches tall, and we live in the walls, taking only what we need from Giants. I live with my brothers, Roman, Patton, and Logan. Out parents left when we were younger, so Patton took care of us, seeing as he was the oldest at the time.
I don't remember my parents. I was four when they left, so Patton as been a father figure to me. Roman was eight, so he remembers them a little. Logan was about to turn ten, and Patton was thirteen, so it hit him the hardest.
Though, he was happy that he stayed with us, knowing that in a dire situation, he would want us there instead.
Logan kept us safe, while also giving us a slight education. Making sure we knew the dangers of Giants and how to avoid them. He was the one that made the rule about having to be fourteen before you left.
Roman was very protective. He was the one always insisted that he didn't want us getting hurt on a borrowing journey and went himself. After a couple years, he was the one going out the most.
Finally, it was my turn. They we're all bringing me out for a borrow into the Giants house. Logan and Patton were going to the other side of the kitchen, grabbing sugar and some bread. Me and Roman we're left with the tasks of collecting tissue for some fabric and some matches for a fire.
I smiled up at him. "I know! Finally!" I laughed a little, starring at the wooden walls I dreamed to see.
Roman laughed a little, his pin stuck safely to his side, used as a sword.
"Alright alright, the nights still young, we better get going."
I nodded, following behind him, before coming up on the little mouse hole. We walked out, and I gasped. Everything was so...big! The kitchen, the stove, the pots and pans. I saw Thomas, the giant that lives in the house, sleeping on the couch, not moving.
I was entranced by this magical world. Everything was diffrent, and dangerous, but also so cool!
Roman walked out behind me. "Amazing...isn't it?"
I nodded, my jaw still slacking.
He smirked, before nudging my arm and pointing across the kitchen. I gasped as I saw Logan and Patton running off with some sugar, moving an electrical outlet out the way and running behind it, closing the entrance on their way out.
"Looks like they already finished." He said, smirking. He swung his bag off his shoulders, which was a lot bigger then mine, and grabbed some rope. After making a loop big enough for us to stand on, he hooked it on a nail nailed into the tile by us, to small to be seen, and stepped into it.
"When I get down, I'll work some magic. All you have to do it step into the loop, and jump off, got it?"
I gulped and nodded, before he smiled reassuringly.
He jumped off the the edge, a whizzing sound followed by a slight thud echoed throughout the room.
I winced, before looking back at Thomas, making sure he was still asleep.
I sighed in relief when I saw he was and turned back, realizing the rope was at my feet. I walked slowly towards the edge, seeing Roman holding the other side and giving me a thumbs up.
Swallowing, I took the end of the rope in my hand, holding it above the edge and I placed one foot into the loop.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
1...2...3!
I jumped off the edge, gasping as the air flew by, before Roman caught me lightly. I clung onto him slightly, looking around. He is a little taller then me, so I came up to about his chin.
He laughed a little. "Not so bad, huh?"
I looked up and nodded, liking the air whizzing by my hair.
He smiled, and let me go. We made are way over to the side table, getting on the bottom shelf. A red box was there and Roman smiled.
"Check match off," He said, going up to the box, and pulling it open after much effort. I looked over the edge to see a bunch of matches inside.
"Holy- How many does he have?" I asked Roman quietly.
He shrugged. "Giants are bigger then us, so they need more while we need less. At least, that's was Logan told me."
I was still gaping at all the matches, before Roman nudged me. "Break one in half and shove it in your bag will ya? We need to get home soon."
I nodded, taking my bag off my shoulders. Roman did the same, and took a match, snapping it in have with his knee.
I took one in my hands, and watched him, frowning, before trying myself. It snapped, yes, but not before scratching my finger.
I hissed a little and put my finger in my mouth. Roman noticed and dropped what he was doing, grabbing my hand.
"Hang on now, let me see?"
I whimpered a little before showing him the cut, a small bead of blood coming out.
He sighed a little, before wiping a small tear off my check. "Nothing we can't fix darling," He grabbed his bag, dragging it over to me and making me sit down on the match box.
Taking out some white gaze we cut long ago, he wrapped a small bit around my finger, before tying it off.
"There, all better sweets," He said, kissing my finger.
I smiled, and hugged him. "Thanks Ro,"
He was shocked at first, but hugged back, playing with my hair.
We stayed like that for a moment, before he got up, offer a hand to me.
"We better get up, we have quite a climb waiting for us."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And what a climb it was.
The side table was decorated with carved drawings, so there we're all sorts of crevasses and cracks to grab. But it was so tall, it took us about five minutes to get to the top.
Roman made it first, of course, and leaned over, panting for air, before looking back over the edge and lending me a hand.
I quickly took it, as my foot slipped. I was running up the wall, trying to get a grip, as he pulled me up, and we both fell on the floor, worn out.
He laughed a little. "Good job. I will tell you, getting down is a lot easier."
I smiled too, before standing up. He stood up too, wiping off his prince outfit (He got it from a old doll in the attic).
Right before us was the tissue box, and Roman smiled, waving a hand towards it.
"Can you grab that? I'll watch the Giant to make sure he doesn't wake up."
I nodded, before running over to the side, and climbing up the box. I set my bag down, and grabbed the edge of the tissue. Roman was sitting behind the arm rest, out of the view of the Giant.
I laughed a little, before pulling the edge up, giggling at the funny noise.
Roman smiled at my antics and I waved to him, as he waved back, a smile on his face.
I turned back to the tissue when I froze, pulling it close to my chest and gasping.
Thomas's eyes we're open, wide open, and he was staring straight. At. Me.
I saw Roman's face as he stayed out of sight, staring at me. I kept eye contact with him, breathing heavily.
"Virgil...it will be ok...just....slowly duck behind the tissue...and come towards me...."
I nodded, shaking like crazy, and I slowly bent my knees down, and ducked behind the tissue.
The giant didn't move, and I release my grip and went lower, sliding down the box.
"That's it....almost there ok?...I'm right here..." Roman was pale, really pale. The worry for his brother clouding his mind.
I landed on the ground, before looking over a Roman, and walking slowly towards him. Soon, though, we heard a thud.
The giant was getting up.
Roman ran, and grabbed my hand. I almost screamed as I heard both feet plant on the ground. He pulled me close to him and jumped down, landing on a soft surface.
I didn't have time to question why it was there, because Roman grabbed me again, and we sprinted for the kitchen.
"Virgil! There's a mouse hole by the fridge, if we can get there, we're safe!" Roman shouted to me.
I nodded, before running a full speed, him right beside me. I heard a lot of movement in the back ground, as the giant moved stuff around. I looked behind me to realize he had some sort of solid glass object.
Wait...thats a huge cup...
and it's coming right towards us.
"Roman! Look out!!" I shouted, pushing him out of the way.
The cup came down on top of me, Roman on the other side.
Now everything was muffled. He yelled my name and got up, banging on the glass.
I got up and scratched at it as well, trying to find a exit.
Suddenly, we caught each others eyes. Both full of fear, and worry, brimming with slight tears.
I placed my hand on the glass, and he did to, before I yelled at him to run.
He shook his head, not wanted to leave.
I did the last thing I could.
"Run! Then come back....Please!" I shouted.
He shook his head harder, banging on the glass.
I placed a hand up. "For me Roman....please..."
He stopped, turning to look at me.
Suddenly, the cup tilted, scooping my up with it. Roman yelled and I was brought up higher and higher, before running off into the mouse hole.
I sighed a little. At least he's safe...
I heard a small tap on the glass and gulped, turning around to be met with dark brown eyes.
I screamed, and curling up on the side of the glass, hiding my face in my jacket.
The Giant looked alarmed. "No! No! Please don't be scared!" He said, quickly putting my down on the counter.
I sobbed quietly. This is it, this is the end, I'm never going to eat Patton's cookies, I'll never read with Logan again, I'll never go on anther borrow with Roman.
"Please! Clam down! I didn't mean to scare you!" The Giant almost sounded...frightened.
I looked up slightly, tears still brimming my eyes. His eyes met mine as I went as far away as I could from him. "Leave me alone!"
He looked taken aback. "You can talk?"
I shook in fear at the volume of his voice. "Loud!"
"Oh!" He covered his mouth. "Sorry..." He whispered.
Wait...did his just change his volume...for me?
I peeked again, looking up at him this time. "I-I'm sorry, Please don't eat me!"
He shook his head. "I'm not going to eat you! I swear!"
I paused for a second, still crying. "P-Promise?"
He made a crossing motion with his hand over his heart. "Cross my heart,"
I moved my head some more, getting a better look. I sniffed a little bit, before looking at him. "W-What do you want with me?" I asked quietly.
He smiled. "Just....wanted to make a new friend, that's all, what's your name?" He whispered.
I curled up closer on myself. "V-Virgil..." I mumbled.
He smiled again. "Cool! Never heard that one before."
I nodded, "My brothers gave it to me..."
He tilted his head, "Is that the person you were running with?"
My eyes went wide as I shot up, hands against the glass on my knees. "Please don't hurt him! He's done nothing I promise! Don't hurt him please!"
"Woah, woah, woah, clam down. I wouldn't hurt any of you, I promised remember?"
I sniffed, and nodded slightly. "Y-Your Thomas, right?"
He nodded. "Yes, I assume, your a borrower?"
I gasped, "How did you know?"
He laughed quietly, "Legends in books and fairy tales, thats all."
I tilted my head. "They're books about us?"
He nodded. "Tons, even a couple movies!"
My eyes lit up, "That's so cool!"
"I know right!"
I laughed, falling back down, and hitting the cold glass. I winced a little, remembering I was still in a cup.
He frowned. "Hey, can I pick you up?"
I jumped a little, not responding.
He shook his hands. "Just to put you in my palm, ok? I promise I won't hurt you, I just thought you might want to get out of there..."
I looked at his shyly, before nodded slightly.
He smiled a little, before reaching his hand into the cup. I flinched back at first, before relaxing as he gently pinched my waist, picking me and and setting me down gently in his palm.
"There...better?"
I shifted a little, sitting down comfortably in his palm. "Much...thank you."
He smiled. "No problem...I wish I knew more about you guys!"
I smiled. "Well...you have a borrower here....ask away!" I said.
His eyes lit up, "Really?!"
I nodded, excited.
He tapped a finger to his chin. "Well...I always wondered..."
And that was it, question and answers back and fourth.
At least, till a pin was thrown at Thomas's hand, and he dropped me.
Roman's pov
I gasped as I ran threw the walls, trying to get home as soon as possible.
I saw the door way and sprinted to it, crashing threw the door, causing Patton to jump and Logan to stare in my direction.
I stared at him, tears striking down my face and my eyes blood shot.
He gasped. "Roman?"
Patton ran over, grabbing my shoulders. "Kiddo whats wrong?!?" He asked frantically. He scanned behind me for a certain someone. "Where's Virgil?!"
I started sobbing again, with sadness, worry, anger, everything.
"Thomas...we weren't fast enough....he shoved me and...." I covered my mouth, not being able to continue you, and fell to my knees.
Logan walked over a put a hand on my shoulder. "Roman, I know it's hard, but we need you to tell us in order to help him. Please, take a breath. In for four, hold for seven, and out for eight...that's it..."
I followed his breathing pattern, slowing calming down. I wiped away a tear on my check, before starting over.
"Virgil was seen, we tried to run, but we were so far away....the Giant grabbed a glass and I didn't see it until Virgil pushed me out of the way and....got trapped himself..."
Patton gasped, covering his mouth and Logan looked concerned.
I buried my face into my hands. "I'm so sorry!! I tried to get him out but he told me to run and then Thomas lifted him up and I-I"
Patton shushed my, rubbing my back. "Roman...non of that was your fault, you made a good call by running to get us..."
I sniffed. "B-But Virgil-"
"Is coming back home." Logan said sternly, standing up and fixing his glasses.
"Causing we're going to get him back."
Roman's pov
I clutched my pin in my hands. Logan held his small satchel with a sling shot in it along with a couple of rocks. Patton had a bow made out of a toothpick and a rubber band, along with matches and toothpicks for ammo.
We found the mouse hole, and crouched in it.
I peaked out, seeing the giant...
and Virgil in the palm of his hand.
I gasped and grabbed my pin, running out and aimming it at his hand.
He flinched back, and I grinned, before I realized he dropped Virgil.
Patton screamed as he dropped, and Logan was trying to find something to grab him, while I just watching in shock.
Suddenly, the giant reached down, grabbing Virgil right before he hit the ground. He pulled him close to his chest as he breathed frantically, catching his breath from the adrenaline.
I suddenly realized Virgil was still with him.
Patton was a step ahead of me, aiming his bow at the Giant.
"LET HIM GO!!" He shouted so loud, it broke my ear drums.
The giant turned and looked. I had drawn my other sword (Yes I had two), and crouched down, while Logan aimed his slingshot.
Thomas just blinked, before slowly walking over. Patton pulled his bow back farther as he got closer.
Suddenly, he held he hand out, and showed a perfectly unharmed Virgil, although a little shaken, in his palm, smiling at the three boys.
"Virgil!!" We all said in sync as Thomas laid his hand out flat, and he walked off easily.
Patton was the first to running up to him, tackling him to his feet. "Your ok! Oh my god you ok!"
I ran next, joining the hug, crying a little and mumbling apologize.
Finally, Logan did something out of the ordinary, and jumped to hug Verge as well, wiping tears away from his glasses.
Virgil just laughed a little, before Patton pulled away, scanning him over. "Are you hurt?! Did he do anything to you?! Have you eaten?! are you ok?!"
Virgil cut him off with a laugh, "I'm fine dad, calm down," He said, holding his shoulders.
Patton sniffed, hugging him again. "Don't you dare tell me to calm down! We thought we lost you!!"
Virgil gave a loop-sided grin, rubbing the parents back lightly. "It's ok Pat...I'm right here."
I sniffed, "I'm so sorry!" I blurted.
Virgil turned to look at me, confused. "Why are you sorry? I was the one who got caught,"
I gripped his sweater, pulling his closer. "Because we could have lost you! What if you got hurt, or Thomas did something, or-"
He shushed me, "Breath Roman..." He mumbled.
I sobbed, and nodded pulling him closer. "We're just so happy your ok..."
He chuckled, "Same here Princy...."
Logan sniffed a little too, wrapping a arm around his shoulders, "New rule, you are not allowed to leave until you sixteen," He mumbled.
Virgil rolled his eyes, "Noooooo" He whined.
I laughed a little, before wiping away a tear, and joining into one last group hug.
Virgil hummed a little, contently. "I love you guys..." He mumbled.
I laughed, "We love you to Verge...."
Suddenly, a small 'awww' was heard in the background.
Everyone spun around to see Thomas, with a hand over his heart. "You guys are so sweet!" He squealed.
Virgil laughed a little, and jumped up. "Oh! Right!" He pulled up all up, dragging us to the edge.
"Roman, Logan, Patton, Thomas! Thomas, Roman, Logan, and Patton." He said, gesturing to us.
Logan swallowed, before holding out a hand. "P-Please to met you...."
Thomas smiling kindly, holding out a finger. "Please to met you to Logan! Virgil told me all about you guys!" He said, smirking.
Virgil blushed, hiding in his hoodie as I laughed a little. "Did he now...?"
Thomas nodded, "Yup! And I would love to hear more!"
I smirked, "Well then...we have a lot of explain to do!"
Let's just say, borrowing became a lot easier from this point on.
The End!
Hope I did good!
