I'll protect you
T.W.-Abusive Parents, Anxiety
The little boy shrieked a little as lightning flashed through the sky, illuminating his room. He jumped out of bed and sprinted down the hallway, running into his fathers legs.
"D-Dad, L-Lighting, S-scary" The four year old stuttered out.
The Father scoffed and shoved the boy to the side into the wall oh the hallway. "Grow up would you!" He took a sip form the bottle in his hands "I don't have time to deal with you shit!"
The boy sniffed. "B-But Dad-"
He yelped as he was pulled up by the hem of his shirt, pressed firmly against the wall as he kicked his feet underneath him, gripping is fathers large hand.
"What the fuck did I say!?! Fuck off well you still can boy!!"
The boy nodded as tears streaked down his face. His father dropped him hard on the floor before mumbling profanities under his breath and stumbling off.
The little boy shook with anxiety and ran into the kitchen, finding his mom cooking.
Another flash of lightning came with a clap of thunder to accompany it. The boy jumped and whimpered, running into his mom and gripping her leg.
The mother gasped and scoffed, kicking the child away. "Scram you little brat! I'm trying to cook dinner for my husband!"
The little boy sniffed. "C-can I some?" His 'parents' never bothered to give him and education, let alone teach him to speak.
She rolled her eyes. "Jesus how stupid can you get?! No! Go bye bye now!" She yelled, kicking him away again.
He yelped, before grabbing the hem of his oversized jacket, little purple patches littered across it after being torn dozens of times. The bottom came down over his knees, were ripped up black jeans covered his legs. His was a mess and everywhere he looked there were bruises and cuts.
He whimpered and stood up, running back to his room and diving under the covers. He sobbed into his pillow, clutching a small black cat close to his chest.
Suddenly, he heard the door creak shut, and he gasped quietly, trying to silents his cried but failing at trying to stop his shaking.
Slowly, soft footsteps walked over to him, and a hand was placed on his moth-eaten blanket.
He curled up even more on himself, waiting for the monster underneath his bed to attack and hurt him, fat tears rolling down his checks.
The blanket was carefully pulled off the fragile child's face, and he flinched violently, shaking and sobbing trying to control his breathing.
"Hey, hey. It's ok kiddo, remember? I'm not going to hurt you,"
The child had heard that one before. He stayed curled up, still sobbing as the lighting flashed outside.
She shrieked a little, and heard a sharp banging on his door as his father told his to shut up or he would shut him up.
The 'monster scowled, but moved back to the child, placing a timid hand on his back.
"hey...remember me? The one that gave you kitty?"
The child looked up. "P-Pa?"
Patton smiled, knowing the little boy couldn't say his name right just about yet, so he called him Pa.
"Yes, that's me. Remember? Lo and Ro couldn't come today, I'm sorry," He said softly.
The child gulped, before a huge flash of lightning illuminated his room. He shrieked again and buried himself under the covers as the door slammed open. Patton immediately disappeared
A drunken father walked in, fury in his eyes. "That's it you little shit"
He threw a punch at the lump of blankets on Virgil's bed and earned a hiss in response. Raising the bottle in one hand he was ready to throw it down.
Suddenly, a strong grip stopped him, he spun around to be met with a stern face with glasses and a blue tie. But his face paled with his say the dark blue wings on his back.
"You will refrain from hurting this child and leave this room without any knowledge of tonight. Go to sleep back in your room, and do not wake up for anything until the sun rises."
The wife ran in a had the same reaction before the guardian held his hand up to silence her as well. "Same goes for you. Close the door on your way out."
Like in some sort of trance, both of them walked out of the room like zombies. As soon as the door closed Patton re-appeared in the darkness. Tears streaks formed a line down his cheek, before he gave his friend a small smile.
"Thank Lo"
The guardian nodded, fixing his glasses. "Roman and I are almost down with our mission, unfortunately, we will not be able to visit tonight though. Keep him safe for us, will you?"
Patton nodded firmly as Logan smiled and disappeared.
He turned back to the child on the bed, pulling the covered back again and gasping. The little boy had his eyes squeezed tight, a gash on his head where his father hand hit him. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he cried again and again.
Patton didn't hesitate this time. He quickly jumped up on the bed and pulled the small child (To small) into his lap. The boy struggled a little bit before Patton reminded him who he was and calming pet his hair. The boy was still breathing extremely fast and his shaking didn't seem to seise. The storm outside was not helping.
Patton frowned, before placing a hand on the small boys chest. "Hey, it's ok, just breath, they can't hurt you tonight."
Tonight...he though, but quickly swallowed down the thought.
The little boy just kept shaking and hyperventilating. He seemed to not realize it was Patton still and just seemed to have given up, like a wounded animal.
Patton sat up so the boy could lean on his chest, softly petting his hair and keeping a hand on his chest.
"Hon please, take a deep breath in for me."
The child obeyed, to scared to see what would if he didn't
"That's it," Patton encouraged. "Just like that"
The boy continue to breath, before he looked up and saw a firmiliar face. "P-Pa...?"
Patton nodded. "Yes, it's me little guy, just keep breathing."
The child nodded before he let one of his hands go from his kitty and grabbed onto Patton sweater paw. Almost like he was worried that he would leave. "N-No go..." He mumbled.
Patton shushed him, and pulled him closer. "I won't leave right now, I promise."
The little boy soon had his breathing under control, and had stopped crying. But he was still shaking out of his control. Patton stayed with him through it all.
He looked down and the boy and frowned. His hair was matted a dirty, some blood from previous cuts in-between. His ribs could be felt through the thick jacket. His skin was dirty and muddy from being thrown outside a couple of times and his hands were red from gripping onto the hem of his shirt.
On top of that were to big of clothes that were old and dirty. His jeans were ripped at the knees and his jacket had been sown up by Patton to many times fro him to count.
At the was just his physical appear. Heaven knows whats going on in his head.
Patton let out a shaking sigh, before moving upwards.
"Hey kiddo...we need to fix that cut on your forehead."
The little boy shifted, and nodded, rubbing his sweater over his eyes to wipe away some tears.
Patton smiled before gently picking him up. Since Logan knocked out his 'parents', Patton was going to take advantage of that and clean up the child. They wouldn't even notice.
Patton walked into the bathroom and turned on a soft nightlight. He disappeared in the light so he had to be careful. Carefully, he set the child on the toilet seat and started a bath. Quickly scrubbing the boy down and with a snap of his finger clean and fixing his clothes, he brought them back to his room, giving him a small sandwich for dinner.
He smiled as the boy slowly ate it, calming down a lot more and wrapping himself up in his old blanket.
As time grew on, the sun began to rise, and the little boy let his head fall onto the shoulder of the guardian. Patton smiled, before gently letting him fall asleep. After that, he softly pushing his down onto the bed and tucked him in. Giving him his kitty plush that his small hands gripped onto.
He placed a small kiss on his forehead before brushing away his long bangs. Tears pricked his eyes.
"It's alright Virgil, we'll protect you until you find your way out." Patton knew it would take years, but he was willing to wait.
he sighed one last time, letting his forehead rest on Virgil's. "I love you."
The sun rose and the Guardian disappeared.
