Stone Cold Glare
I will be completely honest with you: I think Taehyung and Jungkook's relationship is super rushed. So to fix this, I'm adding this chapter to add a bit more substance to it. I'll edit a few dates in post to make sure everything lines up, but I'm just not very satisfied with it right now. So in the meantime, please enjoy JK's suffering :D

Taehyung was...interesting. That was the best way Jungkook could describe him. On the outside he seemed so cold and distant. Despite only being a sophomore, students from all grades moved out of the way as Taehyung made his way through the halls and if they didn't, one glance would put them in their place. Jungkook had several classes with him and while first period was the only one where they sat together, he was still able to observe him from afar. Taehyung would show up late, put his feet on the desk and would even sleep through a few lessons. It was like he didn't have a care in the world. Jimin had told him that Taehyung had rejected every girl who confessed to him and the words heartbreaker and rude got tossed around quite a bit.
Yet when they spoke with one another, it was a completely different story. Despite Taehyung's icey demeanour, whenever he and Jungkook were together it was like hanging out with a puppy. The older student would blurt out whatever random thoughts he had on his mind while keeping a straight face no matter how odd his rambles were. He'd get excited over little things and would beg Jungkook to sit outside with him for lunch because he couldn't stand being indoors all day. It was strange in a rather endearing way.
You could even say Jungkook found it cute, something he didn't expect to think after such little time. Yet somehow Taehyung managed to weave his way into the freshman's thoughts after only a few days of interaction.
Once again, Jungkook was waiting in first period. Hoseok had turned his chair around and was busy chatting to him about something, most likely Yoongi, Jungkook wasn't necessarily listening since he was doodling in his workbook. As the teacher scribbled across the board, mouthing off about her subject, Jungkook was wondering about the empty seat beside him. "Hey," whispered Hoseok to snap that freshman out of his thoughts. "Were you listening to me?"
"Hmm? Oh...no. Sorry Hobi, could you repeat yourself?" The red-head smiled at him.
"Don't worry about it. Like I was saying, Yoongi does this adorable pout whenever he doesn't-" Hoseok stopped himself mid-sentence when he noticed that Jungkook had instantly spaced out yet again. He sighed before tilting his head to see what the brunette was even drawing. It was then that Jungkook finally took notice and slammed his book shut with a bright blush creeping across his face. Unfortunately for him, Hoseok had already seen.
"Those are some nice sketches Kookie, I'm sure Taehyung would appreciate them very much." He teased. Had it not been for the teacher, Jungkook would have hit him across the head right then and there. Instead he simply covered his face to hide his embarrassment. Not a moment later the very muse he was drawing strutted in, earning his usual warm welcome from his teacher.
"Taehyung!" She groaned.
"Mrs Park," the student greeted nonchalantly. As Taehyung made his way to his seat, there was a slew of glances, glares and winks thrown his way. All of which he ignored as he focused his eyes on Jungkook. The freshman felt himself melting under the other students gaze and quickly scrambled to get his notebook and things together to distract himself.
"Hey bunny," grinned Taehyung once he reached his seat. Jungkook couldn't help but smile back, pushing his hair behind his ear before focusing back on the teacher.
"Honestly Taehyung, you could be such a good student. I have no clue why you choose not to try." Taehyung didn't hesitate to roll his eyes at this statement which caused the teacher to scoff and continue with more intensity. "I mean it! All the work you turn in is excellent, if you even bother to turn it in at all that is. Learn to take some responsibility because you won't be able to coast like this forever!"
The teen nearly yawned, resting his head on his hand with a bored expression. "Take a few lessons from Jungkook over here!" The freshman in question sat up right and shook his head at her, trying to stop her rant to no avail. Taehyung turned to him with his brow arched, keeping the same position.
"He hasn't even been here half as long as you yet everything he does is stellar. I suggest you spend some time with him and learn to take some accountability."
Taehyung raised his hand, his face remaining expressionless as he tilted his head to the side. "And this is meant to be a punishment?" He inquired. The teacher sputtered in response. "Fine, only if you insist, Noona." Then and only then did Taehyung look at Jungkook with a smile.
"You ready for some fun bunny?" He said before the bell rang through the room. His smile dropped immediately and he left without any further conversation. Jungkook was left stunned and confused. To bring him back to reality, Hoseok tapped his shoulder then sent his friend a sympathetic smile.
Jungkook only sighed before collecting his things and heading out. "I feel betrayed..." He muttered as they walked out. Hoseok gave him a light pat on the back.
"It's not so bad! On the bright side, now Taehyung has to spend time with you. Whether he likes it or not." That wasn't necessarily what Jungkook wanted to hear and he shot the older teen a frown.
"One: When has Taehyung ever done what someone has told him? Two: We already hang out. The last thing I want to do is trap him because Mrs Park of all people told him to be around me." If anything Jungkook thought Taehyung would avoid him now seeing as he was instructed to hang the freshman. It was nice while it lasted, Jungkook thought. He assumed that would be the last of their interactions.
Oh how wrong he was.
The brunette was suddenly slammed against one of the lockers in a harsh shove. Hoseok and several students gasped, stepping back a bit. Jungkook winced in pain, ready to tell someone off yet when he saw who shoved him he was frozen stiff. "T-Taehyung?"
The older student didn't say a word. His arms were placed just above the younger teen, looming over him with his usual intense gaze and everything felt still. "Stop that!" Shouted Hoseok. He went to pull him away but one glare from Taehyung had him backing up. Without uttering a word, Taehyung grabbed Jungkook's hand and pulled him out of the hall.
Jungkook tugged and huffed the whole way but Taehyung didn't let go. If anything it made him more persistent and pulled harder. It wasn't until the two of them reached the empty courtyard did Taehyung finally let go. "What is wrong with you?" Shouted Jungkook as he rubbed his sore wrists.
The curly-haired student still said nothing. "Hyung! Why did you drag me all the way out here? I'm going to be late for class now!" Taehyung faced the other direction, his arms crossed and his head down.
"You didn't answer my text..." He pouted.
"W-What...?" Taehyung pulled out his phone and finally turned around. Irritated, he pointed to a text message with the words Read at 7:45 at the bottom.
"I sent you a text this morning asking if you wanted to go out this weekend and you never responded!" The sophomore whined. Jungkook was stunned. What happened to the stone-cold teen that dragged him out here just now? Taehyung stood here with his lip stuck out and a pout on his face when not five minutes ago it was as if he was threatening those around him with a single look.
Though his duality was something he didn't fully understand, Jungkook still chuckled and shook his head. "Sorry hyung, I was rushing to get ready. My dads really needed to get to work as well."
"Not hiding it now, huh?" Taehyung smirked.
The freshman ignored this. "But you didn't seem mad about it earlier, why now?"
"I wasn't mad about it till now..." Jungkook rolled his eyes at the other boy's childish attitude.
"Fine hyung, I'll go out with you." Taehyung beamed his boxy smile and scooped the lighter student in his arms. Jungkook squealed and quickly hit on Tae's chest, telling him to put him back down. "Hyung!" He whined. "Let me get to class!"
Taehyung scoffed, burying his face in Jungkook's shoulder. "Why do that when you can spend time with me?" Said Taehyung with pursed lips. After a moment of persistent cuddling, Jungkook finally managed to shimmy out of his grip and dusted himself off, much to the older's dismay.
"I don't want to get in trouble! Do you have any idea how mad my teacher will be if I show up in the middle of class?" Taehyung smirked at him, snuggling against Jungkook once more.
"I'll walk with you and explain everything when we get there. Don't worry bunny."
Just as he said, Taehyung made his way to second period with the freshman. There was no one else in the hall so the older gladly grabbed his hand and swung it happily as they skipped off to class. Jungkook had asked him if he was worried about being late to his own lesson, but Taehyung made it abundantly clear that he didn't necessarily care, which made the smaller brunette stop dead in his tracks. "You need to stop with that attitude," He said pointedly. "I don't want to spend time with someone who doesn't even care enough to go to class." Taehyung was surprised by this statement and lowered his head with a slight pout to which Jungkook crossed his arms at. It was difficult not to be swayed by such a persuasive and cute look. "I mean it! After all, I can't be around a bad student, now can I?"
"Bad student?" Taehyung muttered incredulously. Jungkook tilted his chin with a slight grin, admiring the puppy-like look on Tae's normally intimidating face. "But bunny, that's hard..." he whined. Without warning, Jungkook placed a light kiss on the older teen's cheek then leaned close to his ear, which caught him off guard.
"You've got a week," he whispered. "Prove to me that you can be a good student and I'll finalise the plans for this weekend. Okay?" Taehyung's eyes lit up as he nodded eagerly at him, making Jungkook chuckle.
Eventually they made it to the classroom, getting the expected welcome. The teacher wasn't pleased in the slightest and just about everyone turned to the door when the duo entered. Jungkook blushed at the new onslaught of eyes on him and tried his best to quickly slink off to his seat as unnoticed as possible. However his teacher wasn't having it. "Kim Jungkook, I hope you don't just intend to sneak into my classroom after being so late. Stand up here and explain yourself!"
Jungkook gulped and started to shuffle forward, only to be pulled back. "He was with me," Said Taehyung flatly. Jungkook felt a few of the students eye their close proximity suspiciously so he moved himself away ever so slightly. Taehyung noticed and arched his brow yet said nothing else.
Despite his previously aggressive tone, the teacher's expression softened as he cleared his throat and turned away. "Very well," he coughed. "Just don't let it happen again you two, understand?" Jungkook nodded his head. He sent Taehyung a quick glance before leaving for his seat. "Well, are you going to class?" The teacher asked the sophomore. Tae seemed as though he was going to roll his eyes and give a bored reply, but one look from Jungkook and he instantly doubled down.
"Sure, I'll be on my way then." He sent the teacher a respectful bow then headed out, but not before sending Jungkook a very obvious wink. Several students, and even his instructor, turned to Jungkook, who only took out his books as a sheepish attempt to get the lesson going faster.
------------------------------
"HE DID WHAT!?" Jungkook winced at his brother's exclamation, shrinking in his seat when a few people turned in their direction.
"Jimin-ssi..." He muttered to contrast Jimin's much louder tone. "Calm down, it's not that big a deal." The blonde huffed at him, wanting to grab him by the ear and pull him outside. The only thing preventing him from doing so was Yoongi groaning that he didn't want to walk all the way out there for lunch. "What he did wasn't nice." Hoseok had mumbled as he clinged to his boyfriend's arm.
Jimin rolled his eyes. "It's Taehyung. Of course he's not going to be nice. I swear, he acts like he owns the school sometimes. He's a troublemaker, and now he's harassing my little brother? Next time I see him I'll-"
"You'll what? Bite his ankles? You can hardly reach his knees." Yoongi remarked. He dodged the crumpled paper Jimin threw at him with a smirk and the two of them began going back and forth on the matter. "We're the same height!" "That's an insult." "IT'S ONLY A FEW CENTIMETERS!" All while Hoseok and Jungkook chuckled to themselves about the banter.
It wasn't until a new voice entered the conversation did the laughter come to a halt. "Mind if I join?" Hoseok gasped, Jimin clenched his teeth, Yoongi sent him a glare and Jungkook blushed.
"S-Sure thing Tae." Taehyung flashed his boxy smile at the freshman then squeezed himself between the two Kim brothers, snuggling up to Jungkook almost immediately. The other three students were stunned by his attitude. Hoseok especially since he was sure Taehyung was glaring at him earlier, something Yoongi wasn't so quick to forget.
He cleared his throat, beckoning Taehyung's attention and when that didn't work, he slammed his fist on the table. Jungkook flinched which startled the older teen up. He pulled Jungkook closer to him and sent Yoongi a glare that was equally returned. "You gonna tell me why you were glaring at my boyfriend earlier?" He hissed.
Taehyung, visibly confused, tilted his head to the side. "I never did that,'' he muttered. Had it not been for Hoseok holding him back, Yoongi would have reached over and grabbed the brunette by the collar.
"Are you calling him a liar? Huh? Cause I'll tell you this now, you can mess with anyone in this school but the minute you so much as glance at my sunshine, I'll rip you a new one. Got it?" There was tense silence amongst them as they anxiously waited for Taehyung's reply. His face managed to morph from confusion to boredom and then realisation.
"Ah, earlier today in the hall," He said finally. "That was you right? Didn't realise I was glaring at you, sorry." Then he went right back to snuggling with Jungkook. Even he was confused by his response. Yoongi, on the other hand, was much more irritated by it.
The silver-haired teen glowered at him and his uncaring attitude. "Are you an asshole or just some sort of dumbass?" Hoseok shushed his boyfriend, pulling him close to his chest as he stroked his hair.
"That's not very nice kitten..." The red-head mumbled to him, at which Yoongi only grumbled back with his arms crossed. As they hugged each other, Jimin had been silently observing the way Taehyung and his brother interacted. Had this been anyone else, Jungkook would be scared to show an ounce of public affection (contrary to how he was at home). Yet right now he was hardly paying anyone any mind, despite the heaps of girls and occasional boys glaring at him from every direction as Taehyung played with his fluffy hair. He just seemed so comfortable?
But did it have to be with Taehyung of all people? Jimin could hear himself scoff every time he so much as breathed in the same room as him and from the looks of it, he got very attached to Jungkook very quickly. He was just so...clingy and now he was trying to keep Jungkook all to himself. "Can we go outside bunny?" Asked Taehyung.
Jungkook glanced at the clock on the wall, furrowing his brow at the time. "Break is almost over. We might be late for the next lesson."
Taehyung stuck his tongue out at this. "So?" But Jungkook hit him with a stern look, reminding him of what he had promised earlier. "We'll be quick about it! I just wanna get some fresh air and I swear neither of us will be late for class." That answer seemed to satisfy the younger student as he gave Taehyung a nod. With a cheer, Taehyung took Jungkook's hand and pulled him out of the lunchroom.
"Kookie!" Jimin called to no avail. He grumbled his annoyances under his breath, simply watching as the Taekook duo made their way out without another word.
When they reached the benches just outside, Taehyung inhaled and exhaled in pure bliss as if he had never been outside before. Jungkook couldn't help but giggle at him, signalling to join him on one of the wooden benches. Once Taehyung sat beside him, the two of them felt their hands begin to inch towards each other. Yet just when someone strolled by, Jungkook swiped his hand back, pretending as if nothing happened. Taehyung frowned at this, but once again, said nothing. In an attempt to change the conversation, Jungkook said: "You know Tae, I don't think I've ever met someone like you."
"I hope you mean that in a good way." Taehyung chuckled. Jungkook nodded at him.
"You're just unique. You're so charming but so scary at the same time." That caught Taehyung somewhat off guard. "I don't know how to explain it, but it amazes me how unaware you are of your extreme duality." Jungkook joked, and when he saw the confusion on Tae's face, it made him giggle once again. So he decided to elaborate. "Earlier, when you were glaring at Hoseok,"
"I didn't mean it though!" Whined Taehyung in defense.
"Exactly. Then not ten minutes later you had a complete personality shift with me. It's almost jarring how quickly you go from ice king to puppy." He chuckled. Jungkook had expected Taehyung to laugh along but it was quite the opposite. The older brunette seemed down about this revelation. Taehyung had his head down, with his brow furrowed in thought.
"Is that why people don't speak to me?" He wondered aloud. Taehyung met Jungkook's gaze, a hesitant look in his eye. "Jungkook, am I really scary?" That was when Jungkook realised he was being sincere, he hadn't called him by his name since they introduced each other. When Taehyung noticed his hesitance, he sighed, running his hand through his curly hair. "I don't mean it you know..." He said quietly. "Sorry if I've been making you uncomfortable, I didn't realise I acted like that, really." Jungkook looked at him in amazement. Did he really not know? It made sense going off of how he acted.
Tilting Taehyung's head in his direction, Jungkook smiled at him then brought him into an unexpected hug. "So what? I told you, it makes you unique. I don't care if your duality gets the better of you or if others find it weird. I like it either way, so there's absolutely nothing to apologise for. Plus, I think...I think it's cute."
They untangled themselves from each other's arms and Taehyung looked at him with big eyes. "Really?"
"Really." Just then, the bell for the end of break rang throughout the school. Jungkook stood first, sticking out his hand for Taehyung to take. The older didn't waste any time grabbing with a bright grin and heading off.
------------------------------
Jungkook hopped in place, trying his best to shake off his nerves as he stood at the starting line for track tryouts. The team leader, BangChan, scanned each of the students carefully. Eyeing them up and down with eyes like a hawk. From the stands, a few students had come to watch the practice and support whatever friend was trying out. Including Jungkook's friends.
Jimin had drawn up a small banner which he was waving in the air while Hoseok cheered along with them. Yoongi was sitting by his boyfriend, tapping away on his phone but he was supporting him in spirit. Jungkook wanted to remind them that this was just a practice and there was a chance he may not even get on the team but who was he to break their spirits?
His eyes scanned the small crowd for one student in particular. "Alright everyone, one lap around the entire track. I'll be timing you the whole way through and then we'll be moving on to basic physical activities." Announced Chan. "Focus Kim." He called to Jungkook. The freshman mumbled his apology with a bow and stood at the ready with everyone else.
Just before the whistle was blown, a familiar voice echoed from the bleachers. "You got this bunny! You can do it! I believe you!" Jungkook found himself grinning at Taehyung's encouragement and when Chan blew his whistle, he sprinted as fast as humanly possible, practically soaring past his competition. The next round of challenges was much easier and though Jungkook was ready to collapse by the end of it, he knew he had given it his all.
"Not bad Kim," BangChan whistled, giving the tired freshman a pat on the back. When he moved away, Jungkook was nearly knocked over by his brother, who had tackled him in a hug. Jimin, promptly realising how sweaty the younger was, backed off but smiled regardless. "That was great Kookie!" He exclaimed. "You're sure to make the team!" Jungkook returned the smile, although much more tired. Hoseok and Yoongi joined their side as well, echoing similar adorations. Not long after, Taehyung came by too.
He hugged Jungkook from behind and wrapped his arms around his face with a wide smile. "Jeez bunny, are you sure you're not just Sonic disguised as a cute boy? That was awesome."
"Thank you guys," Jungkook finally breathed out. "But maybe save your applause for when I actually make the team?"
"What are you talking about? You're sure to make it on!" Said Hoseok optimistically. "I say we all go to the cafe to celebrate!" The others nodded along in agreement but Hobi's eyes wandered over to Taehyung, who was still holding onto Jungkook while looking somewhat spaced-out. "Taehyung? Are you coming with?" The other teen seemingly snapped back to reality. He glanced at Jungkook for permission yet he, wordlessly, said it was up to him.
"Only if you accept my apology for the harsh look I gave you earlier. Believe me, it wasn't intentional Hoseok." Hoseok beamed at him, nodding his head.
"Don't worry about it Tae! Besides, any friend of Kookie is a friend of mine so I can't stay mad at you. Not that I was really mad anyway." Despite the other two's shared glances of uncertainty, both sophomore's shared smiles and began getting into their own conversation. Jungkook managed to untangle himself once Tae had gotten distracted and told everyone he'd meet them all once he cleaned up.

I find it funny how obvious it is that I wrote this so much later.
