High School
"Jungkook! Get out of bed!"
Jungkook was planted face first in his pile of pillows. The teenager let out a loud and dramatic groan, earning an equally loud and dramatic, warning from his father. "Yah! Don't you dare start complaining! It's your first day! I pay for your education! If you start whining like this I'll just stop now! You'll be jobless and on the streets! Is that what you want for your future!?"
"Appa! I'm getting up! Just stop yelling!" Jungkook rolled out of bed and onto the floor with yet another groan. After a good three minutes of just laying there, he finally propped himself up and got ready for the day.
It was his first day of freshman year, and if he was going to be honest - He wasn't looking forward to it in the slightest. Who would be? Though Jimin assured him everything was going to be fine, he still couldn't get his anxiety to leave him.
He looks over at the stuffed bunny on his bed. It's worn out over the years now covered in unknown stains and stitches. Jungkook still loved him nonetheless, even if one of his ears was ripped in half. "Too bad you can't get rid of my anxiety, aye Bunny?" Part of him still wanted to believe the rabbit was magic, but he knew better.
Jungkook was tempted to bring it with him just for emotional support but he made that mistake on the first day of primary and middle school, he's learned his lesson by now.
"Hey Kookie, you ready to go?" Asked Jimin as he came into his younger brother's room. The pure look of unenthusiasm was the only answer he needed. Still, Jungkook was dressed and all his stuff was in order which was all that mattered right now. "Do I have a choice?" Jungkook groaned.
Jimin grinned and shook his head. "Nope! Now come on. Dad and Appa are waiting."
The younger teen sighed and nodded. He threw his backpack over his shoulder and solemnly glanced at his room, before following Jimin outside. "Aw, no need to look so moody Kook," Joon said, showing off his dimpled smile. Jungkook maintained his glum expression and simply climbed into the car. Rolling his eyes, Jimin followed.
Jin reached to the backseat and pushed a few strands out of Jungkook's face. "Are you not excited Kookie?" He asked.
Jungkook just shrugged. "What is there to be excited about? It's just another year of torture." He mumbled.
"Yah! I swear to God Kook! It's just school. You're so dramatic!" Jimin exclaimed. Of course he would say that. He never had any issues in school. Jungkook wanted to tell him that but figured it wasn't worth it.
Instead, Jungkook glared at him in disbelief "I'm the dramatic one? Jimin, you're wearing sunglasses and two-inch boots."
"Well not everyone is worthy of seeing my beauty!" Scoffed Jimin, crossing his arms with a pout. "It's only right I conceal it! I'd only blind those poor souls with excellence!" Jungkook couldn't tell if he was joking or actually being serious.
The teen could hear his parents snicker upfront. "Yep. That's definitely your son." Namjoon whispered to Jin with a grin.
"I raised him well"
"Dramatic or not," The sophomore continued. "I need these shoes. By the end of this year, you'll probably be two inches taller than me. I'd like to keep the height difference while I still can."
Jungkook just rolled his eyes and turned to stare out the window. The scenery flashed by them as their car sped down the road. Trees, people, houses, Jungkook tried to count each thing he saw as a way to pass time and stay awake. He hardly got any sleep last night due to nightmares. Mostly ones about him embarrassing himself at school.
"Guess Bunny is losing his power...."
It didn't take long for the family to arrive at the school. Jimin was the first to step out. He smiled brightly once he noticed a couple near the entrance. "Hoseok! Yoongi! Over here!"
And just like that, he ran off. Jungkook watched him leave from the car seat. "Kookie?" The teen looked up and let out an 'Oh', not realising he hadn't even moved yet. Namjoon sighed then smiled at his son. "Jungkook, you'll be alright."
"I know it's just-"
Seokjin didn't have the time or patience for this. "If you don't get out of the car right now the two of us will get out and shout about how much we love you." Jungkook's eyes widen and he quickly gathered his things.
"I'm leaving I'm leaving!"
Namjoon gave his husband a glance of disapproval. "Jin..."
"Well it worked, didn't it? We need to get to work, those dishes won't make themselves." Jungkook stepped out of the car and walked towards the massive building. Highschool. The place he was doomed to lose his will to live. The teen jumped suddenly when he heard Jin yell from the car.
"I packed you a banana milk Kookie! There are heart-shaped sandwiches to go with it because I love you!" Jungkook cracked a small grin at the care his father put in his food. Though his mood quickly changed when he noticed people had begun to stare.
"Don't you have to go to work?" He replied, the embarrassment setting in.
"Yah! Is that how you treat your hyungs? I've got a slipper in this car Kim Jungkook! I'll pull it out if I have to!" Kim Seokjin. The king of duality.
"We love you, Kook! Good luck!" Not wishing to attract any more attention, Jungkook sprinted to the front doors. The couple smiled knowing they'd successfully embarrassed him on his first day. Was it cruel? Just a bit. But Jimin got it much worse.
"What were those? Your dads?" Jungkook stopped dead in his tracks. He was faced with a tall student with dark curly hair. His brown eyes felt like they were staring into his soul and were filled with the judgment Jungkook so greatly feared.
"I-I..." He stuttered. "No...! Of course not! Gross!" He felt bad for referring to his father's in that way. He loved them, obviously, but they just embarrassed him in front of everyone! He just didn't want to get in any trouble. The only student just scoffed and brushed past him.
"Kookie!" Jimin called. "We're waiting for you!"
"Huh? Oh! Coming!"
Next to Jimin were two students. Jungkook assumed they were sophomore's as well. "This is Jung Hoseok and Min Yoongi."
"Hi!" Hoseok grinned. He grabbed Jungkook's hand and shook it enthusiastically. The freshman glanced over at Yoongi. He expected a similar reaction, but all he did was give Jungkook a slight nod.
"Hey...." He said quietly.
Looking at them was like night and day. Hoseok wore a smile so bright the sun was jealous. Accompanied by a yellow sweater, light blue jeans and had a small flower in his hair, he looked like literal sunshine. Meanwhile, Yoongi was almost the exact opposite. He seemed like he was hating every second of his existence and just wanted a nap. His outfit was much darker: Black turtleneck with a black leather jacket and black ripped jeans. Black on black on black on black. The only real contrast being his silver hair.
Walking through the school, Jimin made a mental note to help Jungkook this year. He noticed how much he had struggled in middle school but was never able to find out why. So this time, he was determined to help him. But it seems that wasn't on the universe's agenda. "I don't have any classes with you Kookie..." Jimin says sadly once they reach the main hall.
Jungkook looked down. "Oh..."
"No need to worry Jimin!" Hoseok told his friend. "I've got a few with him, I'll make sure to take good care of your Kookie!" Jungkook couldn't help but cringe at that somewhat. He only wanted people he was close to calling him Kookie.
There was a look of uncertainty on the blondes face, almost like he didn't want to let him go. However he could see other students rushing to class and figured he should get going. "Thanks, Hobi. I'll see you later then Kook!" Jimin gave his brother a wave and turned to walk away with Yoongi. But not before Hoseok called out to him.
"Yoongi! I think you're forgetting something." Yoongi rolled his eyes yet his small smile was still obvious. He walked over to Hoseok and planted a kiss on the taller boys cheek. Hoseok grinned and returned the gesture maintaining his happy expression even after the duo walked off.
Jungkook was surprised. They just kissed! Out in the open? Of course, his parents practised PDA in public, but this was different. Teenagers had no filter. "So...you two are dating?" He asked.
Hoseok continued to smile. "Yep! Since freshman year." Jungkook only nodded. He simply listened as Hoseok listed off various facts and trivia about the school till they arrived at their first class. The mention of track had caught Jungkook's interest. Perhaps he'd try out.
By the time they got there most of the seats had been filled so Jungkook silently slipped into a seat near the back. Right in the nick of time as well because the moment he had sat down the bell rang and the teacher strutted in.
"Welcome back everyone," She began. "I trust you all had a good vacation? Let's get right into the lesson, shall we? Please take out your textbooks and turn to page-" She stopped mid-sentence when someone walked in.
"Taehyung!" The teacher practically groaned. "Late as always! And here I thought you'd change your mindset for the new year."
"My bad teach," There was some semblance of remorse in his voice, but it soon faded away. "I'm only a few seconds late. No need to freak out."
The teacher sighed, looking like she'd already given up. "Just take your seat," She sighed. Taehyung flashed her a boxy grin and scanned the room for a seat. The only open one was next to Jungkook. The younger who recognised him from before, quickly tried to hide his face. Taehyung raised his brow and shrugged, walking over to him and lazily plopping next to him.
Immediately, Jungkook noticed that Tae avoided eye contact. The only time they looked at each other was when he sent Jungkook a glare. They'd known each other for less than 10 minutes! How could he hate him already?
"Uh...hi! My name is-"
"I'm going to stop you right there." He interrupted with a glare. "I don't talk to homophobes." And with that, he didn't spare Jungkook another glance for the rest of the period.
"A reminder that these are going to be you assigned seats for the rest of the year!"
