Dinner
"Appa! You're home early today?" Jungkook rushed to the door to greet his father with a hug which Jin happily accepted. He couldn't help but smile at his son's excitement. Unlike Jimin, he hadn't grown out of his overly affectionate phase. He was grateful for that. However, there were other things on his mind right now.
"Mhm, I got someone to take over for me." Jin's grin faltered when he remembered what Jackson had told him. Suddenly, he was seething. "Kookie, where's your father?" He tried to ask calmly.
Jungkook tilted his head. "Dad? He's in his study."
"Thank you Kookie." Usually, Jin would sit with him and ask about his day, but he was beyond agitated today. Jin didn't want Jungkook to have to see him upset, so he quickly marched out the room.
"KIM NAMJOON!" Jin stormed into his husband's office, nearly breaking the door when he slammed it open. Namjoon jumped at the sudden sound and immediately stood from his desk but his expression soon softened into a grin when he saw who it was. "Jin! You're home early?"
Yet Jin wasn't in the mood for pleasantries. "You have some explaining to do!"
"What do you mean?"
"Don't you dare 'What do you mean' me Mr IQ 148!" Namjoon cringed. There were only two instances when Jin used that nickname: When they were teasing each other, or when he was seriously pissed and insulting him. Something told him it wasn't the former. "Jin listen-"
"So you DID kiss him? I should've known! Namjoon are you kidding me?" Namjoon grabbed his husband's wrist and pulled him close.
"Jin, it wasn't mutual. He came in unexpectedly and I didn't get a chance to pull away. Please, believe me." Jin just stared into those dark brown eyes of his, trying to find some detection of lies yet all he saw was guilt. "I tried to get out of it, I really did."
"...I'm sorry," Jin said quietly. "I should've trusted you..."
Namjoon shook his head. "No, I'm the one who's sorry. I should've made things more clear to him. We're not a thing anymore, and we haven't been for a long time." Jin wrapped his arms around Namjoon's waist and pulled him into a hug. They stayed like that for at least a minute. It was impossible to stay mad at him. Namjoon had such a way with words that always seemed to twist Jin's heart.
Eventually, Jin was the one who broke the silence. "Tell me I'm better than him." He whispered in Joon's ear.
The taller man bent down and kissed down on Jin's neck. "You're better than him. You're a thousand times better than him." He told him between kisses.
"Mmm." Jin slid his hands down Namjoon's chest and smirked at him. "I'm not sure you believe it yet. Allow me to prove it~" He pushed Namjoon against the desk and grabbed his throat, kissing him just below his jawline.
"Jin-"
"You're mine, remember? He should know that, and I don't want to see you walk for a week Joonie~"
------------------------------
Jungkook was frustrated. English had never been his favourite subject and he was struggling to understand it. He tried asking Jimin for help, but he was ranting on the phone about something to Yoongi. So his next best option was his Dad.
The teen made his way over to his father's study, hoping he wasn't too busy with anything. Jungkook was about to knock on the door but started to hear odd sounds coming from inside. "Dad? Are you okay? I kinda need help with English, can I come in?"
Jungkook frowned. He could hear Jin's voice inside as well. It was slightly muffled, but he could still tell it was him. He could hear them grunting as well. Yet Jungkook didn't think much of it. Maybe they were just moving something heavy? "Oh good! I can get it done a lot faster with both of them."
If there was such a thing as eye bleach, Jungkook desperately needed it because what he saw, could never be unseen.
The whole family met up in the kitchen a few hours later. Jimin instantly noticed how oddly quiet everyone was and it quickly got on his nerves.
"YAH!" He shouted. "Someone say something! You know what? I will! This sucks! This is awful! Dad, you're about to ruin my chance at a love life! You know there are sea turtles that deserve our time! But NOOOOO! We just had to have this dinner instead! What would Albert Einstein say about this? With great power comes great responsibility'! And THIS is an abuse of power-"
"Jimin-ssi!" Jungkook groaned. "Please, my ears!"
Jin rolled his eyes at how dramatic his children were. "What are you going on about anyway?"
"Well, wouldn't you like to know!"
Jungkook groaned once again. "Oh. My. GOD. Just take your metal straws and shut up!"
"Kook, don't talk to your brother like that," Namjoon warned. Jimin only sent his father a glare. He was about to leave but heard the doorbell ring.
Jimin squealed, yes, squealed, and hopped out of his seat. "Oh no! He's here! Jungkook! How's my hair? Is my face okay? Do I have any stains on my clothes?"
Jungkook looked his brother up and down. "You're a mess."
"WHAT?"
"Jungkook!" Seokjin hissed. He turned back to Jimin with a sigh. "You look fine Jiminie. I'll go get the door."
"NO!" The teen shouted. "I will! None of you move. Better yet, go hide in the closet!"
"Don't have to tell me twice." Jungkook swiped his banana milk off the counter and waltzed off. He didn't get very far though since Jin pulled him right back over by his collar.
Jimin took a deep breath and pulled the door open. His nervous smile turned to a happy one once he saw the person behind the door. "Taemin!"
"Hey, Mochi!" Taemin smiled. He "You look great and your house is amazing!"
"Not as amazing as you!" Jimin wrapped Taemin in a kiss.
"Ahem,"
Jimin groaned and nearly turned around to strangle Namjoon for interrupting the moment but he had restraint. They lived together. He had all the time in the world to get revenge (an unintentional lesson Jin had taught him).
"A pleasure to finally meet you, Mr Kim!" Taemin stuck out his hand for him to shake. The two made direct eye contact for a moment. It was as if Namjoon was trying to steal his soul with his eyes alone. The second he took his hand, Taemin felt like it had shattered into a million pieces.
"Okay, that's enough!" No way his god of destruction hands were about to break Jimin's boyfriend. "Dad, back up so Taemin can come inside!"
Jimin pushed past his father where he brought Taemin into the dining room.
"Oh! You must be Taemin!" Seokjin said with a smile. "I've heard a lot about you!
Taemin gave him a respectful nod and grinned, turning to Jimin. "Oh really?"
"Yeah, Jimin never shuts up about you," Jungkook smirked and avoided the wave of glares his brother sent him.
"Be quiet and drink your banana milk!" Jimin hissed. "How did you even know anyways..."
"You don't know how to use your indoor voice and continuously forget that you can close your door." Jungkook deadpanned.
The bell rang once again.
"I'll get it this time," Jin got up and went over to the front door. He immediately plastered his signature fake smile that he only ever uses for one person. "Jackson."
Jackson gave him an, equally, fake smile. "Seokjin"
"Hey, who's here-" Jungkook paused. Right next to Jackson was Taehyung. He was sending Jungkook an even harsher glare than the first time they sat together.
~Earlier~
Things had been going well for the last two weeks. Strangely enough, Jungkook really began to enjoy Taehyung's company. He was charming, funny and could be blunt at times but Jungkook liked him all the same.
The only downside was that he was a very affectionate person. Hugs, touches, the occasional peck on the cheek, it was as if he needed to hold someone to live! Don't get him wrong, Jungkook could be equally as loving. Just in private.
The worst place to do it was in the lunchroom.
Which is exactly where Taehyung did it the most.
Jungkook was sitting with his usual group (plus Taehyung) in the cafeteria. Jin had packed him his usual heart-shaped sandwiches and banana milk which always made Jungkook smile.
Yoongi seemed to notice his choice in beverage and tilted his head. "You still drink banana milk?" He questioned.
"Um...yes? I like it, sue me."
Taehyung cooed. "Aw, you're cute when you're sassy."
"Gross. Get a room you two." Jimin mumbled. He tried to ignore that Taehyung was holding Jungkook's hand. They'd been spending a lot of time together recently, and it was starting to get on his nerves. Kookie never had time for him anymore.
"It's only been a few weeks and you guys are dating already?" Hoseok marvelled. "Congrats. It took me MUCH longer to get Yoongi." Yoongi only rolled his eyes as Hoseok leaned over and kissed him.
Jungkook sputtered. He put his drink down and quickly shook his head. "D-Dating? W-We're not! I-I wouldn't!"
Jimin nearly smirked. He raised his brow and leaned on his hand. "Ouch. You guys literally kiss all the time though."
"Just me. Seems this relationship is pretty one-sided." Tae said jokingly. He tilted his head and grinned at the freshman. He leaned in and made sure they were looking at each other.
"You're hurting your hyung's feelings bunny." Jungkook grew nervous. He couldn't help but feel like he was being glared at. He was right. It was no secret Taehyung was a very attractive boy. Girls from all angles wanted the chance just to speak with him. Yet he chose Jungkook.
It made the freshman anxious, and beyond that, scared. He found one note in his locker warning him to stay away from Tae. Then another, and another, and another! "Don't talk to him!" "Go to hell!" Who knew girls could be so mean?
Eventually, it got worse. Girls may be secretive, but boys were blunt beyond belief. Jungkook got to experience that first hand. They put two and two together and quickly found out there was a new target in school.
He wanted to stop it as soon as possible, but he really started to like Tae and what they had. He knew he was an emotional person, so he had to be tactful about this. "Can you back up?" He hissed.
"Pardon?"
"I said - Back up!" Well, maybe a little more tactful than that.
"Jeez! You're so touchy! Could you calm down for at least a second? Hobi's right, it's literally only been a few weeks!"
"I didn't mean it like-" Hoseok was cut off.
"So please, could you go and find someone who actually likes you like that? I'm not even into guys!" Stunned. That's what everyone was. They all knew that wasn't true and were all beyond confused. Taehyung especially, but that confusion quickly turned to irritation.
"Fine. Keep lying to yourself. Just don't come crying to me about how you didn't mean it. Just do me a favour Kim Jungkook, and stop trying to save face. Just. Deal. With. Things." And just like that, he left. Taking Jungkook's heart with him.
There was a good minute of silence before Jimin said. "Jungkook...that was beyond stupid." He left out the part where he cheers and gives his congratulations, but that was for the best.
"YOU THINK I DON'T KNOW THAT?" The freshman held his head, groaning with regret.
"Then why the hell would you say that?" Yoongi asked.
"I panicked alright? Besides, he should be with someone who's proud to be by his side..."
Hoseok looked at him with disbelief. "And you're not?"
Jungkook couldn't answer that. Of course he liked Taehyung, but he just wasn't confident in having a boyfriend. Tae was open about his sexuality and didn't sugar coat anything.
In a way, Jungkook envied his confidence. He knew he shouldn't care, but he was just scared of how other people saw him.
~Present~
That's how they ended up at the most awkward dinner in history. Jimin was smart enough to retreat to another room with Taemin but Jungkook wasn't so lucky.
When Taehyung and his father walked in, Jin immediately grabbed Namjoon and pulled him to his side. He continued to hold him and kiss him until they all sat down.
It was an uncomfortable stare fest. Jackson was looking at Namjoon. Jin was glaring at Jackson. Namjoon was worried about Jungkook. Jungkook was staring at Taehyung and Taehyung was quietly enjoying his food. A true master of ignoring people and his problems.
"Sorry, where's the bathroom?" He asked, finally breaking the silence. Jin told his son to show Taehyung the way, leaving the adults alone.
The moment they got up and were out of earshot, hell broke loose. "Keep your eyes to yourself, Jackson!" Jin spat.
"Why should I when there's such a fine piece of art in front of me?"
"Listen you two-"
"Did you come here just to flirt with him?" Yelled Jin, cutting his husband off.
"So what if I did? Did you invite me just to prove a point?"
"I sure as hell did!"
"ENOUGH!" The other two stopped their bickering instantly and looked at Namjoon with wide eyes. He rarely raised his voice.
"I'm tired of this!" He shouted. "Jackson, we're over. We have been for years! Holding onto the past like this is beyond childish! Jin, I know you don't like Jackson. You never have, but he's still my best friend. I'm SICK of this constant bickering. I'm honestly hurt that you won't accept how I feel and that you clearly still don't trust me."
Namjoon didn't even give them a chance to respond. He simply got up and walked off. It was a serious task to piss off Namjoon, yet these two managed to do it.
------------------------------
The trip to the bathroom felt like it took ages. It was only two minutes, but it was two minutes of agonising silence and slow walking.
"Hyung, wait." Jungkook grabbed Taehyung's arm just before he walked into the bathroom.
"What is it Jungkook?" The older asked coldly. He just wanted to get this over with and leave, but Jungkook wasn't having it.
"I'm sorry-"
"I don't want a 'sorry'." He turned to Jungkook with a hurt expression. "I want an explanation..."
Jungkook sighed. This was what he was afraid of. "I'm scared, and... embarrassed."
"Of what? Me?"
"No, of course not! I'm scared people will hate me. I'm scared they'll make fun of me. I'm embarrassed by myself! I was so scared I'll be ostracised for it! For having two dads, for being gay, hell, for having a stuffed rabbit named bunny!"
He couldn't find the ability to stop. "I'm so close to being back to that time in middle school, and I thought I could avoid it, but I guess not. I've gotten notes, I've been stopped after school, and it's only been a few weeks!"
Taehyung just stares at Jungkook as he continues to ramble. "No one would mess with you Taehyung because you're you!" he told him once the two finally made direct eye contact. "You're bold, you're strong, you're handsome, you're perfect! I'm none of those things...I can't stand up for myself like you can. It was never my intention to hurt you. Please, I'm sorry."
Taehyung quickly brought him into a hug. "Sounded more like you were apologizing to yourself than me." He smiled.
"Ha, guess I was, wasn't I?" The two of them let go and grinned at each other. "Please, will you give me another chance?" Jungkook asked hopefully.
"Yes!"
"Then I want to do this right."
"Oh?" Jungkook nods.
"So, Taehyung, will you be my boyfriend?"
"Of course I will bunny."
------------------------------
Namjoon was annoyed enough as it was. The last thing he needed was a reminder that Jimin had no idea how to lock a door. He was walking past his oldest son's room when he heard him giggling from inside.
Namjoon entered without warning and caught Jimin cuddling up to Taemin.
"Dad! Privacy!" Jimin shouted, moving away from his boyfriend.
"Learn to lock the door." He glared at Taemin and quickly called him over. "I've heard you're the one who helps Jimin with English. Do you speak fluently?"
"Yes, I do!" He was being too calm, and if there was one thing Jimin knew about his dad, it was that he was scarily calm when he was angry.
"Well then, I'm going to make a few things clear: You hurt my son, I hurt you," Then he started speaking in English which made Jimin completely lost. He did, however, catch the line: "I have a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career."
"Dad!" Jimin whined. "Stop quoting 'Taken' and get out!"
"Fine, I think I've made my point clear. Taemin, I'll show you to the door."
"Wait what?"
"It's all good Mochi, I'll talk to you later!" He smiled at Jimin then kissed him on the cheek before being quickly pushed out by Namjoon.
"I can't believe you!" Jimin yelled, walking over to his father after he closed the front door.
"Believe it. No one in this house is starting a relationship. You guys are too young."
"BULLSHIT! Don't be such a hypocrite! I know for a fact that you and Mr Wang used to be fuck buddies in high school!"
"Jimin!"
"NO! It's not fair! You don't get to be protective! I'm not a little kid anymore! I can make my own decisions! UGH!" Jimin stormed off to his room.
He stopped just around the corner and saw Taehyung and Jungkook talking. The teen listened as they made up with each other, and even made their relationship official. It had Jimin seething. Why should Jungkook get to be happy with a boyfriend? Why should Taehyung get to have Jungkook all to himself?
Things weren't going the way he wanted. Jin was always busy with work and Namjoon just disproved of his relationship with Taemin for no reason!
It was all so unfair.
